One thing I was surprised about this evening was when I was in the gym, which was very quiet, I noticed the spinning classes were still on and spin classes in the morning still going ahead and fully booked out. Plenty of hand gel in the gym but surely a room full of people sweating can't be good

Anybody who has gone into a busy pub tonight needs their head examined. They are literally risking the lives of family members. If they were told going for a pint increases the chances of catching the virus, they still probably wouldn't care

Why only family members lives they are risking? Even though, as a whole, older people are more adversely affected, young people can and have died from this or been severe enough to need intensive care. No one knows that they wont be one of the outliers who are severely affected. The doctors in Italy clearly said, it's not just old people, and I'm seeing doctors in France giving the same warning. I wouldn't want to roll that dice and will take every measure to avoid doing so, such as avoiding crowds for a few weeks. It's not that hard. Some people really are dumb.

You can bet a good portion of these numpties are the same people queuing up hoarding all the food and toilet rolls and hand sanitizers!!!!

Cheltenham only down 5% attendance on last years figures. People are voting with their feet.

You can be 100% sure that a % of people won't take this seriously at all and think it's "all a fuss about nothing." The coverage in the UK is not really helping either as I've had two British people today telling me that we are "totally over reacting" and "being hysterical" and then basically Torysplaining the 'science' at me.

"You see what you don't understand is ..."

Thankfully they were on the far end of the phone, so I was at a very safe distance.
Psychologist on TV, tonight I think, worldwide studies show that in a crisis approx. 15% of a population will act in an anti-social manner but their selfishness can be reined in by evident disapproval of the majority.

Im also a member of the DF, along with Makikomi....almost 60 years service between us.

The info you provided was not correct, not your fault of course.

However, I would add a caveat that if that situation is what the HSE/AGS wish the DF to assist with, we will do it. It is on a long lost of POTENTIAL things that MAY be required to be done.

TBH, if there was a forced lockdown happening on Monday, myself and Mak wouldnt be posting here, we would be at work getting/giving briefs and getting ready.

Thats not what we are doing.

We dont know what next week or the week after truely has in store for the country, if everyone does their part it might be manageable, if it blows up like Italy/Spain....expect whatever measures they have in place to be echoed here.

Listen to the experts, not people sharing Whatsapp gossip.

Ireland joins the nextstrain.org virus genome map, with 5 new genomes sequenced by the NVRL.
Three are from Limerick (all look related), and there are two other unrelated ones - 1 from Dublin, 1 from Cork.
That means at least three separate introductions into the country, but I think we knew that already.

The 100 limit is nonsense imo. My gym is huge and might have 25 to 35 people at busy times. Once your sanatising as you go your pretty safe.
The local pub is pretty small so even 60 people would be in each other's skin they are so close.

Where gyms told they had to close or is it their own choice? I'm not clear on that myself.

The closure of everything will lead to massive unemployment and all the associated issues.

The government will have to introduce emergency laws to delay mortgage repayments, suspend rent payments and delay utility bills.

Otherwise we will have looting and people going hungry.

It's not the pub, its everyday living. You want everyone to stay inside for a few months. It all sounds wonderful but not practical.
well said but no need to go far we have lunatics here, look at netflix preppers documentary those people thrive on this $hit just waiting to go full on apocalyptic mode, as if it will solve the issue that cant be seen nor cured and most likely to stay for couple years. as said above if people accepted that they will get it eventually its a coin toss really, as most will have none to mild but casualties always exist be it war, or crossing a street.

Are you the last Goth with attitude going around? Get out there with your long leather coat and dig out the eyeliner, tis your time dude ;)

No I just despise people calling other c*nts from a moral pedestal they built online. But hey ho, calling people out for acting like teenagers in a school bathroom gets you told to "grow up". I swear some parents in this country really didn't bother to raise their kids properly and it's in threads like this, that really shows.

Don’t get me wrong - I’m washing my hands like there is no tomorrow.

I believe transmission of this is mainly via airborne droplets. If so, is all this extra hand washing worth a damn at all.

Italy has a population of 60 million. We have a population of 4.7 million.
There's a thing that exists called 'scale'.

Yeah and we are an island which has to help in some way

We could have just quarantined everyone over 50, and encouraged everyone else to have a giant virus sharing party.

About 3,500 people would die, but we’d be most of the way to herd immunity and would have avoided triggering a repeat of the great depression.

    I'd take those chances

My best friend, who hand on heart worked me into such a state of anxiety with her hysteria & doomsday talk during the week that I came close to having a panic attack, is currently out for drinks with her new boyfriend after going for dinner earlier this evening.

Another friend has a milestone birthday tomorrow, a party was planned but had to be cancelled for obvious reasons.
A few of us were going to call to her house tomorrow afternoon with cake and balloons to take the sting out of the fact that we can’t celebrate but my other friend won’t come cause it’s too dangerous... (fair enough)
But she’s currently out on the lash in town with her fella.
So pissed off I can’t even put into words how angry I am. Raging isn’t the word, such selfish creatures out there.

It’s not the sweating. It’s the heavy breathing that is cause the issue.

I’m going back to work tomorrow. Did 6 days of isolation, that’s it done, tried to get a doctors note and a test done but couldn’t get it. Will be using public transport and shopping as normal.
Pubs open, mixed messages from National Television station and government.

Are you just attention seeking here. Last night it was slagging off eldery pople with smart and snide comments. Today, you tell us out of the blue that you had self isolated, (give no reason for it) but after 6 days you decide all is ok? I guess you are tired of playing video games or whatever, and want to go back to work just because.....? I hope your doctor certifies you alright, and not for work.

If someone sneezes on say an atm or has it on their hands entering PIN number paying in shop/door handle

It will live for between 8 and 40 hours on the surface, depending on conditions(againest 30 mins in air)....you scrath/touch your face, and you likely have it then??

    (According to doctors)

Any one get the feeling Trump trying to privatize the corona virus outbreak will blow up on Monday?

Between target , Wal-Mart , walgreen etc, surely this can't save them much of the pain that is hurtling down the track at them

The genome mapping is an amazing thing tracking how the virus spreads and vectors of the original infection

The hand washing thing was part of the "don't panic" phase where they fed us lies like claiming masks don't work. They're being more honest now in promoting social distancing and avoiding mass gatherings as the key which makes a lot more sense.

I could be wrong but sweat isn’t a transmitter of the virus. It’s coughing and the droplets from that cough that are the important thing.

For those saying do people expect them to be holed up inside, when I finished working from home today I went for a run along the local road for half an hour.

No harm getting outside, just maybe avoid getting crammed into a pub for instance. For the sake of a few weeks or months make some sacrifices.

    Just a snippet of information.

We have been working for the HSE for about 15 years (don't want to say exactly what) but it's not medical, rather on the technical side and related to the virus.

Normally if a request comes in for a job, we need to go through several hoops in order to be considered.

Got a call today about a job, was told to just do it as a matter of urgency and just send the bill in, sensed panic where I have never before. Felt like we were preparing for a battle and manning the trenches.

what use is that really though?

You will have a better chance of knowing what illness you may have.
