What in ****s name was your right leg at there?

It happens occasionally on max attempts. Probably the 4th or 5th time it has happened to me this year. I've a issue with my right medial glute which causes my knee to come in (I also flaired the legs a touch too much). I doubt it will be a problem on Saturday because I'll be fully recovered and I'll have spent the week stretching and rolling which goes a good portion of the way of fixing it.

nah, I didn't make a balls of the cut this time and I felt great in the warmups and felt it was the day for 80kg snatch. A couple of things went wrong first was an external factor of there was about a 10 minute wait between my last snatch warmup and my opener. I was meant to be lifting after Frogdog so when he did his 3rd lift I went down to lift but a guy dropped his opener below mine last second and ended up having all 3 lifts below my opener then. Then when i got on to platform I rushed the lifts.

I'm making out a gmail doc for myself now on a list of things I'd do differently on the day, prep beforehand was all good. Main thing is coming up with a routine for going for max's in the gym and then to replicate that when it comes to competition. I don't have one at the moment and I ended up rushing things with comp adrenalin/nerves. Dead Ed told me to stop rushing during the break for C&J and I lifted better then. I let out a few obscenities when I missed the 103kg powerclean because my jerks are absolute piss now and I would have stuck it :(

I'm not that bothered really I just like to moan /emo in my log. The margin of error for making and missing a snatch is pretty small and **** like this is going to happen. I'm doing the hercs supertotal now on Saturday and hopefully can make up for it then.

Well done on the comp man, you always learn way more competing on the Platform then in the gym.

Cheers, you are dead right on that one. Learned a lot for the next one.

The Hercs club championships are on this weekend. There is powerlifting, weightlifting competition, and some bodybuilding thing as well I think. I'm not a member but Supposedly is a member and signed me up for it. L is doing it as well I think. Dead Ed is injured but I think he's doing whatever lifts he can get away with.

I think the order of events is light powerlifting, weightlifting, heavy powerlifting. Under and over is 82.5kg is the distinction between light and heavier classes. I'd much prefer to weightlift first then powerlift so I might do the opposite of what I did last week. More carbs as the week goes on and water load instead of cut water the day before and morning of weigh-in :D

Widegrip Pullups x 5, just because

Deadlifts feel like an abomination against the universe. I'll open at 150kg on Saturday. I'll see how it goes from there. Imma get a lend of a big f*ck off powerlifting belt for them. PR is 160kg so I'll probably shoot for 165kg. 170kg probably aint gonna happen with the lack of deadlifting and what not.

Benching I like but I was informed once again that there is no bench press on the battlefield. Pause benching wasn't as bad as I thought it would be not too off getting the 90kg. I'll go 80,85,90kg on Saturday. Should get the 90kg in a comp setting with fu*ckers shouting at me.

    Squatz
    low bar up to 3@90kg
    f*ck that noise
    high bars up to 1@110kg

ugh, tried out low bars for the first time in close to year because I'd be able to lift more weight on Saturday with them but the rack position on them feels awful now so I'm giving up on that idea. I've been fully converted to communism at this stage. Deadlifts can get f*cked too. It's high bars and clean pulls for me from now on. Maybe the odd trapbar deadlift if I'm feeling frisky.

BW:80.0kg, need to put on another 2.5kg If I'm to weightlift then powerlift on Saturday. The other way would be gay.

    Wednesday December 10th

    Hercs Club Championships

    Powerlifting:

    Squat
    110/117.5/122.5x

    Bench
    80/85/90x

    Deadlift
    140/150/155

    Weightlifting:

    Snatch
    70x/70/75

    Clean & Jerk
    90/96x/96

I'm declaring myself the champion of the hercs club championships due to the fact I'm the only one that powerlifted and weightlifted after Dead Ed's walk out of defiance. I was gonna bodybuild then for the triple threat but I hadn't worked on my peak vascularity :pac:

I've been f*cked with man flu since Thursday but I'm too stupid and ignorant to let something like that make me pull out. I did two crossfit competitions sick as well so I've done a lot dumber sh*t in the past. I was only doing it for the craic anyway, had to lower the weights on everything though. I was hoping for squat, deadlift pb previously in the week and outside chance of snatch/c&j pb but wasn't gonna happen after that. Powerlifting then weightlifting isn't recommended either.

I think that's the start and end of my illustrious powerlifting career. At least in weightlifting I can half wing it with the technique involved and having a bit of speed but with powerlifting there's no denying I'm absolutely piss weak. Ah well.

Gonna take a few days off training because I'm wrecked. If I feel half human by Wednesday I might try a powersnatch max.

    Sunday 25th December

I've either been sick or woken up in a ditch the past while so no training. I tried a wave intensity cycle of replacing most of my calorie intake with alcohol to try kill the flu I had. Despite many noble efforts I'm left unimpressed by it's effectiveness but just to be on the safe side Imma try it for another week just to be sure.

Single Arm Krazyball Press @ left noodle arm
    1@2pood

Powered by a double shot coffee from my new nepresso machine I managed a press with my left arm. Took about 5 seconds to lock it all the way out.

I was thinking of doing a metcon today but I'm too wrecked. I'm gonna do one tomorrow though. No training in 2 weeks, no metcons in 7 months. I haven't decided what to do yet. It'll be horrible no matter what.

I pulled something in my upper lat/trap area from that last split jerk on the 29th. I thought I had just strained something but I could barely move on the 31st and even now I have constant pain from doing nothing with my neck taking the strain from whatever muscle I f*cked up. Booked an appointment with Emma in Ironside for Thursday to find out what I've done to myself.

Grgrggrgr so annoying I was really looking forward to getting serious about training again after the decadence of the last month. I'm even giving up booze for a month or two and everything. Grgrgrgr.

Good news is I'm not dieing, bad news is I can't lift for another 7-10 days.

I strained a joint in my neck which caused my upper back to spasm badly in my bodies annoying effort to protect my neck. Emma said the injury itself is moderate it was just my bodies response to it that was severe. Pretty annoying to have missed another two weeks of lifting but it's no where near as bad as I thought it was. I was sure I had torn the bejesus out of something in my upper back.

Treatment is anti-inflammatories, applying heat and stretching. I was told I can do cardio, cardio?........zzzzzzz.........*

*I'll start cycling to work again next week

    Saturday 14th Janurary

My sister is doing some sort of 'core strength' class or something and was bugging me to try some of the stuff she does in it. So I did a bunch of plank varitions, leg raises and all that type of sh*te.

I felt like doing something after that so..

    Press
    Row

    3x10 @ 16kg LeninBall

    Split squats
    RDLs

    2x8@2x16kg LeninBall

I was going to do 3 sets on the leg stuff but my bloody hamstrings were about to blow out. I'm so out of shape.

My neck is about 95% better so I can do strength stuff. I'll see how it is on Monday before I try anything explosive.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,806 ✭✭✭token

    Monday 16th Janurary

The road to being less crap but still pretty crap begins again

    Split Snatch
Learning how to do the thing! Foot position and drop split snatches.

    Powersnatch
    2x3@40kg
    2x3@45kg
    2x3@50kg

    Push Press
    2x5@40kg
    2x5@45kg
    2x5@50kg

Doing a proper split snatch is pretty tricky so it's gonna take a while to learn. Over christmas I was researching it and couldn't find a single video online with a good split snatch where the video wasn't sh*t quality, in black&white, and nearly 50 years old. The closest modern video I could find was Josh Everett but he doesn't go full depth on it. It's pretty close in depth to a full snatch when done properly. So my new mission is to become a youtube sensation of the split snatch! or at least impress the Irish whitehairs :pac:

As for the rest of it. This week is just getting back into it before starting new program next week.

EDIT: Best video I could find on learning it but still no videos of it in practice with heavy weight

    Wednesday 18th Janurary

My neck stiffened up a bit after Monday. Start getting better as today went on and then I put a heat pack on it on the drive over. It was alright when I started lifting. Hopefully my head doesn't fall off tomorrow.

    Split Snatch
    squats & drops

    Powersnatch
    2x3@40kg
    2x3@45kg
    2x3@50kg

    Split clean
    squats

    Powerclean
    2x3@60kg
    2x3@65kg
    3@70kg

    Squats
    5@50kg
    5@60kg
    3x5@70kg

Just the bar on the snatch&clean and finding 70kg back squats heavy. This is like starting all over again. Also I guess I'm gonna have to start eating again now that I'm back training.

Split cleans are the same foot position as the snatch and going full depth also. I say I'll more trouble with the split clean in the long run than the snatch. Whenever I get compentant at the movement 110kg is gonna be hard to stand up with.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,806 ✭✭✭token

    Friday 20th Janurary

    Split Snatch
    squats & drops

    Powersnatch
    2x3@40kg
    2x3@50kg
    2x3@55kg

    Split Clean
    squats

    Powerclean
    2x3@60kg
    2x3@70kg
    3@75kg

    Lunges
6 steps forward, 6 steps back
    1x20kg
    4x30kg

I thought doing the split would ease the flexbility requirements but I'm gonna still have to hammer away at the calves though they are pretty f*cked whatever I do. My shin is still a bit too vertical for my liking. Then on the clean my elbows are still dropping too much so gonna have to work on that too.

Lunges since I is now a splitter. Get my balance goin yo! Should have a good carry over to other sports. If I ever get around doing any of them that is.

New program next week. I'm still not back up to speed yet so I'm gonna die.

    Monday 23rd January

    New program starts

    Split Snatch
    squats & drops @ bar

    Powersnatch
    2x3@40kg
    1x3@50kg
    2x3@55kg (64kg)
    2x2@60kg (67kg)
    2x1@63kg (70kg)

    Clean pulls
    2x4@90kg (100kg)
    3@95kg (105kg)
    3@100kg (110kg)

    Squats
    5@50kg
    4x10@60kg

    SL RDLs
    3x6@12kg

Weights I was meant to be doing in brackets. I'm so far off the pace it's not even funny. I've 4x10 back squats twice a week. Wayne says he's taking the opportunity of me learning the split to build some leg muscle with high rep squats. If it works it'll be the first time. Build up the weights over the 6 weeks on that one. I would f*cking want to that 60kg was actually tough!

Off to the supermarket with me later, time to get back on the carbs & cow juice. Drug shipment of protein, creatine, fishoil currently on route.

    d'Oracle wrote: »
    Why the change?

To Split? My legs are too f*cking weak basically and Wayne told me they won't get that much stronger than they are now*. He started talking about my tendon insertion lengths and stuff. Went a bit over my head at the time I need to read up on it. Whatever way mine are aren't good for applying force anyway. My pull is pretty decent though 103kg powerclean @ 77kg class. The split is all about the pull and you need less leg strength to stand up with so hence the change. Now that I've changed style my pull will get extra emphasis in training so it should go up a good bit more.

The fact I have no calf flexibility plays a part in this as well since this puts me in a compromised position for applying force at the bottom of a squat.

*Currently 120kg, I still want 140kg in the next 2 years or I'm going to jump off a very large cliff. Doable with a few leg hypertrophy phases thrown in.

    Wednesday 25th January

    Split Snatch
Drops up to 3x3@40kg woo actual weight

    Powerclean
    3@60kg
    2@65kg
    2@70kg
    2@75kg
    2x2@80kg

    2x1@85kg

    Lunges
6 steps forward, 6 steps back
    5x30kg

    Hypers
    3x8@10kg

Those bloody lunges are tough going backwards. I feel utterly useless using less than 40kg on them as well.
