Thanks for that. Does it take long to get switched to night rate?

No, you just ask your new energy supplier. We got a new day/night meter installed by ESB perhaps a week later. Hard to remember exact time, but do remember it was during a thunder storm and the leccie went off at the same time..:)

We are surprised how little our bills have increased and we have 2 EVs. The importance of getting a good unit price. Also a lot of our other household stuff now avails of the night rate. Also have a son who has a home office who works a lot after midnight with multiple screens/computing.

Test drove an ID3 today, was the 58 kWh model with the sunroof but no Travel Assist, Heads up etc. Here's my thoughts as a Kia e-Niro owner:

    Drive
A little heavier than I'm used to but corners well, really found the better turning circle much better. Back up camera is a big step up with a wider angle, plus the front sensors are a godsend! Plenty nippy, comfortable on the M1 and handled some poor roads well too.

    Tech
I was disappointed to not get to test out Travel Assist/ Heads Up etc but the infotainment system was really good. Huge step up in image quality and wireless Carplay is so good! I found ACC a bit fiddly because of the buttons on the steering wheel (need to figure out when disengaged how to get it back to the last speed). Still not used to just getting out of the car to stop it but it felt cool!

    Space
Lovely in the front, felt like a living room. Impressed with leg space in the back too (nearly better than my e-Niro) and the boot wasn't too bad either. I've had passengers in the back of my car maybe twice - it's usually my dog hanging out back there.

I've just cancelled my EV6 deposit i'll say that! Now to get the right spec / price!

Didn't work for me today on my test drive with Google Maps, had carplay connected wirelessly but nothing came through.

Directions from Car Play don't seem to come up on the speedo display.
What I sometimes do is set up a route on the inbuilt nav, so I have step by step directions and scrolling direction lights. Then I use Car Play for the lovely sat view..

But if you then put a destination into Car Play it appears to clear the one on the inbuilt nav.

Well now ......it seems there are no white id3's left in the country.
Guess I'll be getting a silver one then....

How much was it including installation if you don't mind?

It was €1,200 all in for the EO Mini Pro 2 with a 5m tethered type 2 cable. €100 less if you go untethered. Not sure if the CT clamp required for solar costs extra or not. Obviously you should qualify for €600 back from the SEAI unless you've previously availed of it. I'm just waiting for that back now.

Saw a silver one outside my dealer recently. Thought it looked very well with the black and I'm not generally a silver fan.

So, VW fermoy rang me back. They've no specialist tools for this, they're on order. They've ordered parts for the job. They're on order.
None of the above have an ETA.
    10day old car.

I feel your pain. Been there, have the scars.

My dealer has been fantastic, but VW Ireland don't seem to provide any support when it's needed.

Has anybody managed to get alloy wheels on ID.3 Life model? I'm not a fan of those steel ones and don't mind paying extra for it but just wondering do they even give that option on the ID.3 Life.

Is the 'Performance' spec just a UK naming thing? Just checked with the dealer, and we're getting a 'Style Pro' according to them. I wanted to check in case the insurer had a long list of variants to choose from and I wanted to get it right. I thought 'performance' relates to the motor (205bhp) while the 'pro' part is the battery size. Kinda worried we're been given a version with the lower spec motor now :(

I actually find this funny. When I ordered mine I wanted silver, but they only had white. That was at the launch though. They silver looks good, usually I like the darker grey, but happy enough with the white and black roof.

Lift the carpet in the boot on the left hand side at the rear and there should be a specification sticker there to tell you

Quick question re golfing - how does the boot fair out with clubs and trolley - I presume both don’t fit . Thanks

Plenty of room for one set or two if you let one of the seats down.

After a bit of research, apparently Apple Maps via CarPlay should appear (will test if I get another test drive), for some reason Google Maps directions don't yet.

Saw at least 3 ID.3s today, a white one arriving at Applegreen Coynes Cross when I was leaving, another white one leaving when I arrived (or possibly the same one, I hope they weren't waiting to charge for 3 hours!).

Spotted another white one on the M11, pretty sure it was a different one unless teleportation is a hidden feature

Saw a moonstone grey one on the M50 with NI plates. The guy in the passenger seat gave my ID.4 a nod of approval and I gave him a wave in return :)

Must try the Apple Maps to see if directions come up beside the speedo, but far prefer Google Maps with the satellite view.

    Great tip. All good.

A little disappointed that the reversing camera isn’t in the Style. Was fairly sure the dealer mentioned o the test drive. Ah well.

What’s the story with the little light over the sun visers? It comes on on the passenger side when I slide over the mirror cover, but not on drivers side. Doing something stupid, or is it a blown bulb?

I only saw 1 other ID.3 on my trip to the airport and back yesterday from west wexford. Saw about three ID.4s. 2 white, 1 Manganese.
The ID.3 was charging at Kilcullen, white and a 77kWh. Transpires he lives about 2 km from me but works in Dublin for the week. Never knew there was another so close:). He was behind me about .5 km the whole way home on the motorway bit. We must have both had the cruise set at 120..

I've passed a few down in Waterford, a couple of ID.4s as well. Little nods aplenty. Interestingly, long looks and the occasional nod from drivers of other EVs, particularly noticed a guy with an i3 and somebody driving a 2019 Ioniq.

    Great tip. All good.

It's usually only activated if the visor is at a particular angle. Open the cover and tilt the visor up and back, see if that works. If it doesn't come on at all, then it's something like a bulb but I'd sat that's unlikely. Think the idea behind it is that it only comes on when you would be looking at yourself in the mirror, so that kind if angle.

    Very newbie (stupid questions)
So never bought a car before, went to the showroom today and sat in an ID.3, liked it and am thinking about it, the brochure says 32k for the base model (if im reading the prices correctly) If I walk into the dealer and pay in cash, how much haggle if any are you likely to get ? - (TV tells me I can haggle, I am less likely to believe this)

Who arranges the home car socket thing , is that completely indep. of the dealership, I just seen the charger prices in the brochure.

In the car I noticed the screen had a map of where I was - is the car connected to the internet ? If so how ? am I paying for another sim card for the car?

Youtube videos, and that brochure - any other research that is normal to undertake ?

you should get a bit knock off - just don't buy from the dublin dealers as they offer nothing..

Electric Ireland if you purchase via VW. Very slick, no complaints. they arrange everything..

Has a built in SIM that is free for basic telematics & updates and you can purchase additional GB data packages (85EUR for 25GB over 12 months from memory )

Eventually got more detailed info from the dealer I bought from.
The HV battery needs replacing. All 58kWh of it.
They've never done it before, they've no idea when parts will arrive.
I'll be contacting them again on Monday to walk away from that car and into something else unless some miracle happens and they magically arrive with a new battery in the next week but thats unlikely as VW HQ haven't given them any ETA on tools or parts.

    Tis what it is.

    That's a proper disaster

The issue is the HV battery is sealed and the garages won't open them to fix anything, they'll just swap it and send the old one back to VW for refurbishment

Swapping the battery should be fairly easy for the garage, you just need to put the car on the lift, unscrew the battery and then lift the car up. Battery gets left on the floor

As you say they've never done it so are probably being extra cautious

I'd say since they don't even have the tools in the country, no it's extremely rare.

If you close your port cover and press it behind the hinge is there much movement in it? I'll try get a video of mine later.

It's either that or a piece of the boot trim hitting off the top of the rear window.

I placed some foam behind the the charging flap and the rattle is still there. I will try the plastic trims around the boot glass next.
