If you close your port cover and press it behind the hinge is there much movement in it? I'll try get a video of mine later.

It's either that or a piece of the boot trim hitting off the top of the rear window.

I tried the flap and there is a rattling sound of it alright, not on the hinge side but the locking mechanism. I will try a bit of foam on it tomorrow and let you know if that cures it.

Haven't noticed mine rattling while driving, but it seems quite a loose fitting flap with a bit of play in it. Hopefully a bit of foam will solve it..

Is it advisable to get the VW home charger?
The basic one is 480 and installation charges are around 850. There's an SEAI grant of 600 so it's finally coming out to 730e.
Has anybody tried a different charger or is this the recommended one?

Can you set timers on the cheaper VW one ? if not and you have night rate electricity then it would be wise to purchase one you can set charge timers because the id range of cars built in timers is all over the place at this time with no fix in sight but if you have a home charger that you have control over then it's not much of an issue.

You dont have to get the vw one, almost any type 2 32amp charger will work and qualify for the grant.
Electric irelands deal on the eo mini charger is not bad.

I’m new to all this also so looking for advice...I was hoping to get a charger that can take a PV feed as well as the normal mains feed. Do any of the VW chargers allow this or are there better alternatives? Thanks.

The Zappy chargers can work with Solar PV.

The eo mini pro that electric ireland are offering can work with solar.

I don't use my EO Mini Pro for solar but I have to say I couldn't fault the experience with Electric Ireland one bit. Very easy from ordering to installation, and good value too.

Thanks for the info. What kinda real world range are you getting (assuming you have the 204bhp 58kWh version)? I have a LEAF so I know all about the variables. I'm hoping the WLTP 420km will translate into 350-360 in real life.

I drove from Athlone to Baltray in Drogheda yesterday (what a golf course!!) bit of motorway at 120kph and mix of 80/100kph roads, round trip was 310kms. I averaged 15.0kWh/100km and got home with 72kms to spare, 4h26mins driving. Also worth noting it lashed rain for most of the motoway driving on the way home as well. Last time I done the same trip in the eGolf it was torture as it was in winter so had to top up on the way up and it took me 5.5 hours to do the 2:15 trip home as the FCP in Navan had a que of cars looking for free charges and I hadn't enough range to get to the next FCP in Kinnegad.

I only have my ID3 2.5 weeks and am getting around 320kms from an 80% charge each time, only charged it fully once and that was Wednesday night for yesterdays trip. Absolute no faults / errors so far thankfully. Its actually quite fun to drive on the twsty country roads (not as good as the egolf though!!) and comfortable on the one long spin I done. Long may it continue!!

The VW one doesnt at the moment but it has the hardware to support it and I think they said they will provide that support in a future software update. Whether you believe them or not is another thing.

How much was it including installation if you don't mind?

Got what I thought was quite a good charging speed yesterday at Ionity considering arrived with 31%. And that was after sitting on the M50 at a crawling pace due to an accident. Was warm though.

Sorry about pic quality, sun was strong..

Collecting after lunch, anything I should be asking/requesting from the dealer?

Can I request the service pack with tyres if it's not offered?

After reading about 50 pages of this thread and watching about the same number of videos on YouTube, I'm genuinely tempted to cancel the EV6 GT-line spec pre-order and go for a top-spec ID3 Tour. Test driving tomorrow. I can count on one hand the amount of times I've put the back seats of my e-Niro down or had people in the back of it and for driving around the city - smaller cars are so much better.

Less money, easier to drive, more range - I've myself nearly convinced.

Looking at the configurator, is the 'Top Sports Interior 'Plus' option worth it for € 1,355.09?
    • Lumbar support, pneumatically adjustable
    • Power seat adjustment for both front seats
    • Seat heater for front seats separately controlled
    • N3R (whatever that is?)

The Tour spec has the lumbar support, power adjustment and seat heating as standard and we find the seats very comfortable, although that is a personal thing. The N3R is just the different seats.

I think about the only thing the Tour spec doesn't have is the panoramic roof and a 5th seat in the back which, as there are only two of us and rarely any passengers, makes no difference.

I asked for vw umbrellas, key rings, usb-c cables, bootliner :):) anything really that I could see in the showroom and got them as well, couldn't swing the service pack with wheels :(

    Ongoing saga continues:
So, VW fermoy rang me back. They've no specialist tools for this, they're on order. They've ordered parts for the job. They're on order.
None of the above have an ETA.
    10day old car.

Quick question re golfing - how does the boot fair out with clubs and trolley - I presume both don’t fit . Thanks

Check the Type 2 cable is 32 amp and not 16A, afaik its meant to be 32A makes a big difference to home charging(if your charger is untethered)

Good idea to ask for the cables. We're picking ours up this evening. I just ordered a USBC to Lightning cable and a USBC to 4xUSBA adaptor. Just dropped about €45 on the whole lot. I'll have a look around the showroom and see what I can get!

Does anyone know how to change the range from miles to km in the we connect id app, android. Thought I read it somewhere but can't seem to find it, thanks.

If you don't ask you don't get! Work in retail so I'm well used to getting asked all the time although I am not generally one for asking.

Change the language on your phone from English (UK) to English (Ireland)

Let the single back seat down and put the bag in length ways. Trolley will fit in the boot beside the bag then.

Given EV’s use a lot of electricity which company / package do you use? How long does it take to get night rate set up? Thanks.

Depends upon your usage, which of course will change after getting an EV. Use a comparison site such as Bonkers.ie. Over the last year or so Energia have offered some of the best deals. We are with them atm, but contract just expired so will be searching again. Has to be done yearly which is a PITA.
Our usage is roughly 50:50 day/night.

Thanks for that. Does it take long to get switched to night rate?
