    :pac:

Or whatever way the tide is flowing on that day from the feminazi perspective.

Imagine the Ciara & Norah Show? I hope I haven't just given them an idea.....

With Dil as a roving reporter, a la Henry McKean :D

Would they go unscripted on a Friday?

Heard a bit of the show the other day while sitting in someone's car.

"We all agree that people who park in disabled parking spaces are SCUMBAGS. Now, I've only ever parked in a disabled parking space twice, once when I was in a rush to do a radio slot and there were no other spaces free".

Does she even listen to the words from her previous sentences?

I'd agree with her on the first part.

On the second part - it's ok, she's Ciara Kelly. Rules don't apply to her, do you not know this by now? And having to do her show is a perfectly valid excuse.....in Ciara's head.

Probably had a "Doctor on call" badge, a la Del Boy.

I've noticed that she is increasingly referring to her programme as Ciara, a la Madonna, Prince etc. Sure sign she is getting far too comfy in that chair.

Nothing new there, I posted on that weeks ago.

Yeah I posted it too. It seemed like there was a very deliberate attempt on her part to drop the more formal "Dr Ciara Kelly" for the less formal, i.e. your friend/galpal/bff, "Ciara". It seems that "Ciara" plans on becoming the "Oprah" for her generation, so well loved by everybody that she is known by her first name alone.

But, this time next year - the first caller of the day will say "Hello is that Ciara?". The response will be "You mean Doctor Ciara Kelly". "Yeah sorry, Doctor Ciara Kelly, is she there?". "I'm sorry, Doctor Kelly is out doing house calls today. As you know she is trying to win back all her patients now that she lost all the Newstalk lunchtime audience".

Except she has more listeners than hook had this time last year. A consensus of opinion on a boards radio thread is just that, the consensus of a handful of people. Extrapolating it out further than that doesn't really work.

Oh it's the same people rabbiting on about the same stuff. Her show is perfectly listenable and if anything her interaction with callers is much better than George's. I liked Hook when he was talking about movies or essential song and similar but when he tried to talk to people phoning in it was bloody awful. I think they always intended for tgat show to have a bit more listener interaction, it just didn't work when Hook was presenting.

If she kept calling herself Doctor Ciara, it'd drive yis nuts.

What's she supposed to do? It's her name!

It’s not her name or rather title that’s the issue; it was the way she said it, in her smug, condescending, “I’m better than you and not only do I know it, I’m going to tell you all about it” tone.

I’ve previously speculated that she dropped the “Doctor” to make her appear more like the average person. I’d bet anything it came up in a listener focus group that she was coming off a little, shall we say, “aloof” (I’m being kind).

I’d say the more accurate and less conspiratorial reason is that she no longer practices as a doctor.

That’s boring though, and doesn’t fit with the narrative.

Just like you could say it wouldn’t sit with the Ciara Kelly defenders narrative, and all that good stuff....

I had a giggle at people giving out about her saying her name.

I jokingly said to myself 'next they'll try to back-pedal by saying it's actually the WAY she says it'.

Low and behold, someone actually said it.

Christ above. I wouldn't like to be at a party with some of you miseries.

I'd imagine people are just queuing up to party with you too Faugheen.

To be pedantic, I was referring to how she used to emphasise the "Doctor" title, and not her name per se.

Only listen to the odd podcast from Ciara. IMO, she’s not as bad as this thread suggests. Now, Ray Darcy is awful!

I suppose its a bit of respite from the whingefest ( ahem, having a laugh) about Joe Duffy...Jesus the excitement of it all

No real change in the JNLR.

"Dr Ciara Kelly’s lunchtime slot, Lunchtime Live, meanwhile, remains static book on book at 99,000. Prior to stepping down in the wake of controversial comments about rape, George Hook was drawing 97,000 listeners for that slot last year."

Latest JNLR numbers are out, listenership continues to grow.

    "Lunchtime Live (Ciara Kelly) - Reach 102,000 (3,000 book-on-book, up 4,000 year-on-year)"

I would point out that since Andrea Gilligan has taken over the show that maybe that could be a reason as well as other guest presenters. I notice Andrea is now using her own twitter handle instead of the Newstalk lunchtime live one, maybe an announcement coming or something in the water. Interesting there is a much lower level of exasperation on this thread over the last month since she has gone

Also when you see the article in last weeks Sindo with Ciara Kelly announcing her retirement from Operation Transformation to pursue other interests such as writing. I mean seriously, standing side on to the camera, hand on hip and pouting into the camera. She is a GP FFS and a part time broadcaster not a model.

Is Ciara still on Newstalk? I flick through the radio stations during the day and Andrea has been on for the last while. Last time I heard Ciara was a good two weeks ago. Didn't hear her mention anything about going on holidays.

This post just smells of desperation. Numbers are up to the end of June so they don't include last month.

As far as I know there were gains across the board because of increase in population but it's safe to say that she at least kept Hooks numbers but most likely increased them. Since she is a newbie replacing a long time Newstalk presenter her results are quite impressive.

:D:D Brilliant. Look, everyone is entitled to act as they like in private, and being a GP doesn't necessarily mean one has to act in a certain manner, but I get the impression that Ciara would rather a career as an "influencer" rather than a GP.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,624 ✭✭✭✭meeeeh

She is not practising gp since she started her mid day show. Change of career surely isn't unheard of even among dinosaur population?

Gilligan will be getting her own show but it's from 6-6.30 am

I suppose if Liveline gets high listener numbers, I dunno if it does, it would make sense for Lunchtime Live to do somewhat well too. They're very similar shows.
