Today it's with the sanctimonious Kieran Cuddihy. Oh the joy.

    MOD NOTE
    Updated 05/10/17

Posts that fixate on the presenter's gender, or other aspects of their personal identity, are not welcome on this forum.

Any user who continues to dwell on the presenter's gender, or who is seen to be gender-bashing more generally, will be carded or banned. In light of some recent posts, and the many, many warnings to date, the penalty will likely be a ban. In some cases, there may even be permanent bans handed out.

Please continue to freely discuss the programme content and production quality, but keep it within the bounds of the charter, and this warning.

Please report any posts that breach these rules

Smug git alright. Someone texted him to say that everyone who objects to open borders is not a racist. His reply was that not all are racist just selfish.
Wonder how many he put up?

Where do NT get them from. He has Irish Times levels of sanctimoniousness.
If this is meant to be an improvement to George?

Another clone. Same opinions, same "outrage". Does nobody in there have a brain of their own.

Kieran Cuddihy was pleasant and enjoyable today, ease of listening in comparison to the good Doctor Kelly. neither are a patch on George though, pity he's gone from the slot.

Its a business and he's a paid presenter, he will have to take the party line now and again, it was a refreshing break from Dr. Kelly who at best is a contributor and certainly not an anchor.

Well I think they all maintain that they are not influenced by DOB being the owner. To be honest I think they are more influenced by what opinions are considered allowable by their journalistic peers rather than anything else. What I find really funny is that I have heard more than one NT presenter looking down their noses at "backward" North Korea many times, when the truth is there is probably more freedom of speech in North Korea than there is in NT.

With regard to the new presenter, I'm still praying for Anton Savage. Can't believe he hasn't been snapped up by somebody.

Would Sam Smith agree with you on not being influenced by DOB

Anton is too much like cooper was 10-15 years ago, too safe too PC need Eamon Dumphy or someone of the pre PC brigade

Yeats came back from 14 weeks in the US a whole new non controversial PC DOB lap dog both new shows almost unbearably falsely PC

Not surprised. A valid contender for burning at the stake of PC self-righteousness and conformity at NewsTalk.
He may 'misbehave ' at his peril. Sad to say.

So what you want is the person asking the questions to be the same person that trained whoever he is interviewing on how not to answer the questions he himself is asking?

The good doctor seems to have turned the entire show over to medical related items - unlistenable to - and during one Ad break to day there were no less than three medical Ads back to back. Medical Porn.

Well given the job his ma did with Gay Mitchell, I don't think we have too much to worry about.

Well given the job his ma did with Gay Mitchell, I don't think we have too much to worry about.

But it's not just his Ma. Anton is Managing Director of The Communications Clinic. From his company bio..
Anton has advised clients ranging from Cabinet Ministers, the CEO’s and Chairmen of some of Ireland’s largest PLC’s through to members of the Catholic Heirarchy and CEO’s of global charities.

The conflicts of interest he would have presenting a current affairs show on Newstalk are pretty glaring.

So I got the pleasure of listening to a bit of the show yesterday and today due to have to go to a dentist appointments. I only hear 20-30 mins. Like day and night Ciaran Cuddihy (I think it was him) felt natural was a bit of a laugh and seemed no pressure. Today with Ciara it felt like everything was business like and you be afraid to say the wrong thing due to Ciara giving out to you. While I am not a fan of his Ciaran should get it on what I heard

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 596 ✭✭✭Conservative

I liked what I heard of Kieran also. I've long grown used to the lack of diverging opinions on Irish radio but he's a pretty competent presenter and the best of the younger lot they have.

I'd probably listen if he got the show but it looks pretty unlikely at this stage.

I liked Cuddihy yesterday, it was the first time in over a year I kept Newstalk on between 12 and 2, if they'd any sense he'd get that slot.

Hopefully they'll show Williams the door soon and put this shock jock nonsense behind them.

Agreed. I've been a fan of Cuddihy since he used to fill in for Chris/Ivan on Breakfast.

There's a bit of divilment in him as well. I don't see why he hasn't already been given his own show. I don't know how they passed him over when recruiting for Breakfast.

Dr Ciara is complaining about alcohol advertising again. People who want alcohol will get alcohol no matter the advertising.
She misses the point it is about brand competition not selling alcohol per se.

There could be no advertising and it would make no difference to consumption.
New brands just couldn't get on the market.

Also everybody knows the dangers of alcohol. It is up to them to take personal responsibility.
The overwhelming majority do. Prohibition of advertising or display will have zero effect on those who don't.
All these prohibition plans are just cheap virtue publicity for politicians and justification for the existence of the many NGOS involved.

I wish she would stop. Could it be a personal bee in Dr Ciara's bonnet?

Insufferable crap again today, why do people like her force their personal opinions on the rest of the world. Were it not for advertisers there would be no commercial radio stations.
She may be a doctor and know more than me about alcohol but when I do get to get out for a beer I don't take into consideration who sponsored the last sporting event that I watched, what ad I last heard on radio, like most I choose what I want to rather than forcing upon others my unfounded opinions.

heres a link to eamonn dunphys podcast "the stand" .

    https://www.thestandwitheamondunphy.com/archive/

if ya click on the part 2 section of his interview (episode 12) with waters you'll get to hear a remarkably similar story of what happens when the journo set are out to get you.

no matter WHAT ya think of john its stark how similar what happened to him is with what happened to hook.

More of this to come. Watch this space.

The borg king in Newstalk seems to be Chris Donaghue (pathetic I know).
The borg emperor in Ireland whom they all aspire to in the hive is Fintan O'Toole.

Well that's what the drinks companies would have us think.
Advertising not about selling more product? Really?

[Edit] PS Drink responsibly. That's alright now, carry on.

I don't agree with all the stuff that they want to implement, physical separation of alcohol in shops is a bit of a nonsense but no alcohol advertising is a common practice in many European countries. It would be naive to think that the billions of money are poured into advertising and other promotional activities just for brand awareness. How many people are loyal to a particular wine brand and yet wine market is steadily growing and changing ?

People don't need to go through the roof everytime someone says something they don't want to hear.

I assume there's some contractual impediment to that, provided that George is being paid some kind of retainer before his new show commences this Winter.

He'd need a bigger back room team for a podcast than a broadcast. between setting up the PC recording and editing never mind restraining himself without the newstalk police to keep him within bounds

You could say the same about cigarettes. Should we bring that back also.

The ads are about people to get there brand of alcohol as it will allow them and there friends to have a great time. Less of that is a good things
