I had been doing that every year no matter who I was with, ignoring the renewal number and going back in to generate a fresh quote from their online portal /site every time was coming in at least 100 cheaper .

I've done that with Zurich the last few years, definitely saved me a lot of bobs, never got 295 from them unfortunately. When I worked late nights I got a quote from liberty (who had only arrived into the country) after the disaster of Quinn at 5am for 275, I took hand and all off them☺️, the following year wasn't quite so nice.

I know it’s gone up to 309 today, and probably be more tomorrow , but I don’t feel so pressured to drive anywhere today to justify the Insurance and tax spend nor using any petrol , plus pricing up parts needed for a repair, it ll be a while before I can consider it again anyway.

Just looking at my renewal for an 08 VW Golf.

Everything seems to be gone up.

I did get a quote about €200.00 cheaper than the rest however they'll only give me a step back no claims.

Other company will fully protect my 4 years no claims.

Is it worth paying the extra?

For anyone curious, I ended up just going with Aviva after trying 20 or so places and paid the extra for full NCB cover. The total came to €681, which is €130 more expensive than last year with Zurich. Zurich was just step-back, but even still, quite the increase. The strange thing for me was the huge difference between FC and TPFF. The lowest TPFF quote I got was €398!"

The main justification a few insurers gave was in relation to both common Tesla and BYD issues, but most did say there has been an increase across the board. Good luck with insurance hunting—it's just as soul-crushing as before.

Youre more than welcome Jim. Any new or relative new info details help with other events maybe.

And i will keep you informed but it is still an ongoing insurance issue.

Looks like it may be a true oddity rgds how & what occured. The more i think of it the luckier i have been.

So its been a long drawn out process on both sides.

Thanks for all your concern and help folks incl @TheContinentalOp.

Anyone insured with cover in a click? My insurance is up at the start of next month but still no renewal notice.

Just checked the postbox & the renewal is there now. Last year 594, this year 794, no changes.

Tried getting a few quotes & makes for grim reading. Best so far is Allianz @ 630

123 & chill both just under 800. If the renewal notice is better than Allianz I think that might be the only option going on previous quotes from others.

181 Megane, 44M with wife added as a learner. Think she may get her licence asap or I'll not be keeping her on the insurance.

50 year old here with +20 years claims free driving, paid €571 last year on a 3.0 litre diesel BMW 4 Series with Zurich. Changed to an i4 EV 3 months ago and they gave me a refund of €36 on the remainder of the policy. Renewal from Zurich came in recently and premium jumped to €661, rang them and the cheapest they would drop to was €570.

Did the usual shopping around and online quotes. Dearest was AIG who wanted over 1k, lol, majority were coming in around the €700 mark. The AA were the cheapest online coming in at €525. They followed up with a call and knocked the price down to €479 which included a 10% discount for having AA membership (this came with the car from the dealer when I bought it). Managed to get another €20 off them to clinch the deal so €459 which includes full NCB protection and other full comp benefits. Happy enough with that as none of the others came anywhere near it.

    Age 38

    Years driving 15

    Zurich 500 fully comp

    Car audi a3 sports back 1.6 2012

It's my first year with zurich and I'd like to warn people about there breakdown assist. They only cover a local tow. I broke down 400k from home before I was aware of that. It would of cost me a small fortune to get the car towed back home. Axa insurance breakdown assist is no extra charge no matter how far from home you breakdown.

Quote for the missus - 31, 2 years NCB, 172 Golf 1 litre petrol, 1 windscreen claim and me as named driver (32, 7 years NCB, 3 penalty points)

Previous year with Liberty was €498 which was a great price considering she was on a learner permit, all thanks to the 3 years named experience on my policy.

    Renewal: €605

    Allianz: €563

Everything else was pretty much €700-1,000.

FBD wouldn't quote based on the windscreen claim but they weren't competitive without it anyway. Its4women also went up because of my penalty points, so much for insurers not caring about anything under 5 points!

    Age: 31

    Gender: Male

    NCB: 10 years

    Full License: 7 years

No penalty points & no license restrictions - very standard policy in terms of mileage per year etc

    Car: 2020 BMW 330e M-Sport

Last years quote: 433 (Third party, fire & theft)

This year I'm looking for fully comp. Got the following:

    AXA - 967
    FBD - (online) -> 640 (renewal) -> 672
    An Post - 562
    Zurich - 805
    Aviva - 972
    Red Click - 724
    Allianz - 672
    Chill - 814 (Ivernia)
    AIG - 811
    AA - 864
    AIB - 1063
    FirstIreland - 1152
    123 - 662
    SuperValue - 941

Played around with excess & extras also. Will give a bell to the lowest bidders sometime today.

Feel like the prices are on the higher side compared to what people have been getting here. Anyone know why?

Wife got quoted 692 fully comp with me as name driver

I had to take the policy out in my own name this year to retain NCD. My car got written off last year due to an accident.

With 3 years NCD and an accident, my quote came in at 735 with her as name driver with our existing provider.

We've cut down to 1 car from 2.

Could have been a lot worse. Allianz quoted me 786.

  • Registered Users Posts: 61 ✭✭ross81

That's impressive. I was just quoted €610 fully comp through Chill (last year it was €490 through them!)

    2013 1.3L Mazda petrol

Male, mid-40s, full licence, no penalty points, NCB over 10 years.

feels like a kick in the balls by these gangsters 🤬

    2018 Rav4 hybrid.

    10 years plus NCB.

Mid forties male with full license for 25+ years. Partner with similar info as named driver with full license. No points etc.

    Fully comp.

Aviva last year 390e. This year 425.

Had to laugh at this one from AXA- if I didn't have an NCB they'd be charging me over 5k…

As it is, I can get fully comp with RSA for €650.

    2008 BMW 5 series 2L

Early 40s, clean licence, full NCB

    Current policy BOI (RSA) TPFT

    Last year: €450

Renewal: €560 - This was immediately reduced to €500 with a phone call. I want fully comp this year so asked about price for that instead: €1100

Did annual check off all the usual suspects. Very little sub €800, most around a grand or more

Best price and the one I will be going with 123.ie €430 fully comp with step back and a named driver added to policy

    Delighted with that

That time of the year again..

    2017 BMW M2

    37, clean licence, Full NCB

Last year: €778.23 (Changed in March to the M2)

    Allianz Renewal: €745.23

    Quotes
    AA: €980
    Aviva: €826.96
    Axa: €991.02 (Same from Supervalu)
    Acorn: €943
An Post: Reg shows up as an M231i cabriolet on their quote generator with a price of €591.85. When I called they took the actual car details and said they'd call me back after they queried it with the underwriters, heard nothing since..
    OutSurance: €675
    AIG: €751.54
    Kennco: €900
    Its4women: €730.74
    FBD: €730.59
    Campion: €1196.22
    Chill: €797.85
    First Ireland: €1,320
GMIB: ~€790 (after a call with them)

I've tried a few others like Whoops.ie, Best Quote, Red Click and Zurich but they either won't quote me or it's €1k+

Looks like I'll be sticking with Allianz - may give them a call and see if they can move a bit on price. Any other insurers I'm missing?
