Skoda Superb (280bhp) and getting quotes around 800e for fully comp from everywhere i have tried (Liberty, Chill, Allianz)

    Seems high to me?

Got it down to 480e with 25plus.ie (policy with AIG)

Well if that’s the case it should be communicated to people. Just refusing to give a quote with no explanation is ridiculous.

I’m sure you won’t agree, as you seem to have that typical mods ‘know all’ attitude that seems to pervade this site in recent years.

I'm not a mod of this forum.

I've worked in insurance for almost a decade, that's how I know these things.

It is not possible for every eventuality to be catered for online.

If you rang companies to get quotes they would advise you that it's because of the penalty points (if that's the reason) but as there are literally hundreds of possible reasons why insurers won't quote they just issue a generic catch all letter for online quotes.

  • Registered Users Posts: 21,561 ✭✭✭✭ELM327

    You have 6 penalty points.

That's the cut off point for virtually all insurers when it comes to new business.

It's not their fault you did not adhere to the rules of the road.
Agreed, but there's no need for the last line, effectively kicking him in the groin.

With 6 points you'll find it difficult to get a quote and certainly won't get one online. I have 5 points myself and I'm in a similar quandary, insurance renewal end of next month and I'm dreading it.

How much more would comprehensive be?

I think it was around 1600 fully comp .

I am selling the car at the moment so when I get next motor will probably bump up to fully comp .

    Gender: male
    Age: 35
    NCB: 8 years
    Car: 09 Vectra Sri 150bhp
Named driver: wife age 26 with 6 years NCB.

Last year was €650 with 25+, renewal was €780.

Got sorted for €505 with 123.ie so can't complain.

Van insurance is due next month and it's always hassle as it's taxed private and most companies won't even quote us. It's in the wife's name and currently insured with kenco for €840, hoping it'll drop a little bit this year.

    Male, 38
    Provisional
    NCB 4 years
    2014 Focus MKIII Econetic 105BHP
    Liberty through Chill
    Third party F&T

Last year was €1,318.69 (with a quote breakdown showing €204.80 added for my three penalty points)
This year €1,194.28 (Penalty points shown on the Summary but not part of the quote breakdown anymore)

I rang NDLS and they said my points will be cleared tomorrow. I imagine Chill have access to the Penalty points database and can see my points will be gone by the time I renew at the end of the month and it's already taken into account with the quote. I'll find out when I ring them tomorrow. Is it worth changing the value of the car since it's going for E2000 less than when I first got it insured?

AXA's website quoted me €1462.50 for fully comp and €1366 for Third party
Liberty's quoted me €2018.46 for fully comp and €1395 for Third party

That's a savage price, I'm 37, 10 years NCB, 2l TDI Octavia, 3 points and I'm getting filly comp quotes of 800-900. Best quote was 680. I've rang about 15-20 companies and brokers.☹️

Yes. So I don't know why the points are on the renewal summary when the renewal is the end of the month.

I'd ring them just to be clear the points are taking off for your renewal.

Not all insurance companies do which is why you have to inform them when you get points or when they come off

When I tried to get insurance in my name first 2 years ago I had no luck with my previous driving experience being accredited here, even though I had paperwork for it.

    9 points ? Or a mixture?

    That's one great price.

Actual endorsements stamped on the licence! Yep for some reason my insurance is always less than many of my friends whom have clean licences

And i always go online with Liberty and get a quote with them after getting my renewal quote by post as it always works out alot cheaper, then i ring and give them the quote ref number and they match that price on my renewal. Very strange and ive been doing this the past 5 or 6 years and always advise other to do the same ;)

There is something weird going on alright especially with all those endorsements. People with clean licences are getting charged more.

Be careful with the telematics app. A device that picks up everything. Btw will there be any tolerance allowed on the speed or does 80km mean 80km.

I'm in a 2l diesel avensis 2012 I'm 47 full clean licence no points and I couldn't get cheaper than 728 so something strange here.
