:D:D deadly, that's a super idea and one I can say with reasonable certainty - I'll win  (unless tang turns up in his tartan trousers and ghetoblaster pumping The Prodigy!)

    Good luck today!

19:51 in loughrea 5k yesterday. Not a pb course with a b1tch of a hill between 3-4k. Fast last k though. . A good effort put in but the hill killed the pace a lot and took to long to get up on pace again finished strong though..

Will post splits when I upload...

    ***EDIT LINK Loughrea 5k

Well done on the latest 5k.

You seem to like these evening races. Did you know that the Mayo 5k series starts May 24 in Ballyhaunis?

I saw that alright :D:D Just doesn't suit time wise travelling mid week at the moment.
Will do the run for ollie 10k in milltown on 11th June though, as close to mayo as I'll probably get this summer :D:D

    Cheers guys...

19:27 in the Tuam 5k this evening...

Small(tiny) bit disappointed in it really. This was the one I was targeting to get closer to my PB or maybe even beat it. A bit late leaving for it and I get caught in traffic.... Traffic at 7pm ffs :):) Got there just in time to park the car, ran 100 meters to starting area and we were off....
Happy enough with effort put in but disappointed in my preparation, I normally like to get to races in plenty of time... Splits 6:18, 6:25, 6:15 (6:02)

2 races in the series left to go, Claregalway and athenry. Neither of them I'd consider PB courses but I'll be pushing anyway... Might even keep a regular 5k races a go, I'm starting to like them a small bit more :)

    Hi Martyboy
There is a change to the Athenry course from last year that could make it quite fast 1st and last K's.
I think I was running on your shoulder between 2 and 3 k last night but couldn't keep with you then, I finished about 12 seconds back. Happy with that time.

Well that's good to hear :D There might be hope of improvement so :)
There were a couple of lads around me pulling me along which helped me keep it going somewhat.

Glad you had a good run too, sure, next Tuesday again so eh ?? :D

We will give the sub 20 a go again on Tuesday but it will be a tougher course. We'll see how it goes anyway

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,140 ✭✭✭martyboy48

Did a fundraiser 10k on Saturday... It wasn't a goal race but one I was hoping to have a good effort at and a sensible run up into it... I achieved neither as family stuff got in the way and I don't think I got a run in since Monday.

Nice course but a tad warm for it. Effort levels were way to high to hit 5k at 20:08 and mentally threw in the towel at that stage.. ran on as best I could but was gone really. Paces heading near the 7min mile region and still struggling.

    6:26, 6:37, 6:47, 6:49, 7:06, 6:50 (1:26)

    42:02 on the clock. ....

    I'll wise up yet :)

    Page 21

Ok, I've been a bit of an ass. I've been plodding along nursing a bit of a niggle for far to long. It's almost gone, but bullishness got in the way of me having it seen to. The result is basically prolonging the injury (old glute injury), which could have been sorted a hell of a lot earlier....

The result is a loss of speed(relative :D), endurance, confidence ect...
I missed the deadline for the Athlone 1/2 last weekend and now I'm sure glad I did. I tried a couple of miles of my old HM pace during the week and I couldn't really hit it :D:D There was a bit of a breeze out but still, I couldn't manage 2 miles with 1 mile recovery between  Jeeesus :)

    Onwards :)

I'm back logging for some accountability and a bit of a kick in the hole..
Tang and TbL might be full of excuses, but I will not go down that road :D

And yes, there is a little AR flickering flame deep within.... Deep deep down there somewhere :D:D

*Edit* I'm down to run the galway bay half on Oct 1st. Anything other that a gale, I'll go out at 1:30 pace. I have to have a go here to see exactly where I am. I'm hoping for a few around me to get me going into a rhythm and who knows.
If it's disastrous I'll pull the plug on DCM which I'm down for also.... I don't do fook ups by halves :)

    Monday 12/09/2016 5 miles @ 9:26

Gentle 5 mile recovery pace. Nice and slow with time to think about
the world around me...... Ya man..... :D

    Tuesday 13/09/2016 8 miles @ 7:48

Decided to try another few HMP miles to get used to the pace again. Planned a simple 1,2,1 hmp miles with 1 mile easy in between.

    Paces were....
    7:56
    6:47
    8:42
    6:54
    6:44
    8:50
    6:49
    9:18

Found It tough at times when concentration dipped, but managable once I focused on why I was doing this.
Was easier than the lonely 2 HMP miles I did towards the end of last week :D

I'll revisit HMP miles towards the end of the week again for something similar but at the same time I don't want to over stretch myself :)

    Wednesday 14/09/2016 Rest

    Thursday 15/09/2016 6 miles @ 8:46
Easy run about the town. Legs felt reasonably fine and enjoyed the run.

    Friday 16/09/2016 10 miles @ 7:36
Thought I'd revisit some HMP mile for this. Planned for 2 sets of 3 with 1 mile easy in between. Found it tough going towards the end of the second set, puffing and panting a bit out of control :)

    8:30
    8:27
    6:46
    6:51
    6:44
    9:00
    6:48
    6:54
    6:49
    8:57
Glad to get through it, hopefully I'll get tuned into these paces over the next week and they become a tad more comfortable....

    Saturday 17/09/2016 8 miles @ 7:54
Fell into sun 8min/mile pace for second mile and decided to keep it sub 8. Felt good with just a bit of concentration needed to keep it there. Felt good after it, treated myself to 2 fresh soft boiled eggs from the market and some toast. Devoured the lot :D

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,140 ✭✭✭snailsong

Two soft boiled eggs, Marty? You're one crazy rock'n'roller. :D

    Sunday 18/09/2016 20 miles @ 8:37
LSR on Sunday and probably had every weather condition during it :)
Was a nice run although I was fairly tired towards the end.

    Monday 19/09/2016 Rest

    Tuesday 20/09/2016 8 miles @ 8:28
Easy run around the town to get some miles in.

    Wednesday 21/09/2016 10 miles @ 7:55
Planned to do another 2*3 miles @HMP.
Never really got going and wasn't feeling the love as they say...
2 mile wu and started into the pace miles. Effort level seemed a tad high
and was working hard enough to maintain pace. Then a much appreciated recovery mile before starting into the next set of 3 miles.
Between stopping after knocking a phone out of a womans hand(both our fault really, just brushed against her as she changed direction) and then stopping again as I came across a car accident in salthill, I just pulled the plug and jogged home.
I wasn't up to it today, and with salthill being busy enough having me weave my way through the walkers, my run just wasn't all that enjoyable.

    8:01
    7:59
    6:51
    6:54
    6:55
    8:59
    7:26
    8:40
    8:35
    8:49

I must plot a more local quiet route for sessions in future, but street lighting would be nice :)

    Thursday 22/09/2016 Rest

    Friday 23/09/2016 5 miles @ 8:32
    Easy run about the town.

    Saturday 24/09/2016 13 miles @ 7:39
    Clewbay half marathon.
Had planned to meet a few boardsies at this one and have an enjoyable run
without racing it. The main aim was to enjoy the run and see how the legs are with a bit of effort pace wise.
Met snailsong promptly enough, and soon after met up with Neady. We had a quick chat about Firedance who was unable to attend as she was struck down by a terrible bout of the sniffles :D:D We all joined hands and said a little prayer for a speedy recovery :D
Was great meeting up with you two, hopefully the next meet up I'll stay in the
    right town :D
So the race... Pace wise I was planning on 8min miles all the way around. After a couple of miles I started running along a Galway City Harriers lady and we got chatting about life and running and everything. Boy could she talk :) The pace quickened a tad and we kept at it. Bit more effort on the uphills but that to be expected.
She was telling me to push on around the 10 mile mark but I stayed and kept her going. Fair play to her she dug in well. The chat was quiet but we motored on to the finish. Finished around the 1:41 mark and was happy with that. The legs were absolutely fine and it didn't know a stir out of me.
    Clewbay half

    Sunday 25/09/2016 12 miles @ 8:15
A MLR you might call it??? The legs were in fine nick after the half so went for a nice run out along salthill. Kept it to 12 miles as I did't want to overdo it :)

    Monday 26/09/2016 7 miles @ 8:57

Recovery run loop around the town. Felt good after it :)

I've still got a lot of catching up to do here on all the running and racing going on. I saw some super results on strava and the events section here of berlin and the dublin half... I'm gonna have to pull my socks up a bit I think :)

Sniffles? SNIFFLES???? OH my god I was practically on deaths door!!!! Okay, maybe not death, but someone's door that looked like death :D:D. Good on you for sticking with your new friend, I"m sure she appreciated that.

Apologies again...I promise faithfully to wrap myself in cotton wool before the next arranged meet up! See you in McGrattans on 30th!

She really appreciated it - Marty is being modest. She was extremely grateful to him after the race. She acknowledged that he could have left her and motored on but he was a true gentleman and stuck with her.

Nice to finally put a face to the name Marty :)
