Tom Martin making 345/200/375 look like an RPE 8.

Tore his hamstring going for 385 apparently.

    Edit: he's a touch under 100kg.

I am doing research on gyms for a friend and I had forgotten that many of them don't post public price lists. Which is infuriating, and basically a declaration that they plan on putting you over a barrel if at all possible. Get over yourselves and just set general public fees like Flyefit.

That only works when you charge half of nothing. Wet facilities cost a fortune to run. It's normally those places you don't see with a price list up.

I saw a funny statement about these hidden price lists before. Something along the lines of:

"If space X can publish a pricelist for sending things to outer space, then you can post a price list for your ****ty startup"

If you have an attic that needs insulation then order off Bulk Powders because the amount of sheep's wool they put into boxes to protect the fragile cargo would insulate a small house.

I'm not asking them to lower their price I'm asking them to publish them so I don't have to make phone calls and haggle to make comparison. Personally I feel every moment I spend talking to a salesperson during my life is a moment thrown down the toilet.

Charge 500 euro a month for all I care, just don't act like shysters and make me jump through hoops to find out.

cheers .. just in the market for a pair.

I have always squatted in cons and a few people have told me that a decent pair of squat shoes would help with stability ... I've never actually worn a pair - all my training buddies are about 3-4 sizes bigger than me!!

The stability is worth it, imo.

I have cons as and while I might leave them on for warm ups to a point, the shoes always go on for the main course.

As an aside, I find the slightly lower heel on the Powerlifts (0.6") suited me better than the Power Perfects (0.75")

Thought this was a pretty good article showing that sometimes innovation can be about paying better attention to the basics....

If you're on a night out and mid session you want to have some good food so go for some high protein option does it matter if you're on a big session considering your body is going to prioritise processing the alcohol anyway? As in it doesn't matter what option you go for whether it's high fat or high carb or whatever once calories are equal.

No idea, but sign me up for the trial when some scientist decides to find out

Anyone see "Trust me I'm a Doctor" on BBC2 last night. (Tuesday 12th July, 8pm)
They looked at some interesting topics and did some small control experiments which was nice to see in a TV show.
    They looked at
    - Belly fat reduction
Surprise surprise calorie control was the most effective method
-Increase muscle strength just by thinking
No increase in mass but more fibre recruitment which is cool.
    - Benefits of stretching and hot baths

There were other interting bits and pieces too. An interesting and somewhat refreshing health focussed programme.
I get a bit tired of the biggest loser and operation transformation expolitative format.

Episode page for those who can view BBC stuff

Reading The Dirtiest Race in History and apparently Ben Johnson benched 165.5kg at 80kg.

Would only have been the 6th best bench in the 83s at the IPF worlds a few weeks back but not bad for a sprinter....

Yah and if you add the pause and take away the bounce, he'd probably come 23rd in the king of the mountains on the tour.

    I know, I know...but it's still impressive enough for a sprinter.

I wasn't saying it would have been top 10 in a world powerlifting comp per se.

He's probably in the top 1% of the 1% of the 0.01% of hte most gifted people genetically of all time, I'd hope he'd do silly numbers.

Same story with the NFL guys.

Most dudes competing in PL are only in it cos they weren't good enough to make real money playing actual sports.

EDIT: that number is surprisingly accurate too I'd say, it comes back to around 50-70 people.

That was the point really....though I wouldnt have expected that kind of a bench, hence the surprise.

Out of curiosity, what sort of bench would you have expected?

    article-0-13FE8FB2000005DC-988_634x429.jpg

Also taking into account the fact he had been on Winstrol for a few years at the time.

I know he was powerfully built but at 80kg I didn't expect a bench that high. The steroid taking seemed a little hit and miss as well.

I've no idea what a competive 80kg powerlifter would be benching.
But I'd guess 120kg is probably normal enough for a normal gym who trains a bit.
    +10kg pro athlete bonus
    +20kg genetic freak bonus
    +20kg juice bonus

What do you mean by steroid taking being hit and miss?
Also, is the book interesting in general?

It's more than Bolt can bench and he's considerably bigger. I was surprised, that's all. You get the impression his improvements in general surprised even his coach and I don't just mean in terms of what he could do on steroids.

It appeared a bit trial and error is all. Try a bit of d-bol, Ben, see how it goes. HGH then.

I was always intrigued by the Lewis-Johnson rivalry and why they didn't seem to like each other and there's a lot of background on training, drug taking and testing and cover ups. I find it interesting anyway, especially considering that final was one of the big sporting memories of my early years.
