Its a timesaving device to avoid filling out paperwork. Remember a marathon will have lots of injuries anyway.

Only two devices exploded, weren't one or two others made safe, I thought? Seems like a coordinated attack, akin to the London attacks.

During the press conference it was confirmed that a third unexploded device was discovered. Presumably it was detonated in a controlled manner.

Irish consulate in Boston says there are no known concerns regarding Irish citizens.

The Irish consulate is at 535 Boylston St...there was an unexploded bomb at 600 Boylston street

It's a series of bombs in what is a relatively calm US first world city which rarely sees events of this kind. The Boston marathon and the participants likely have absolutely no connection to any world at the minute. I think this deserves a bit of attention.

Its primarily a media event now.

This will sell advertising, lots of lovely pictures and footage to keep people interested.

You're reading an awful lot into that photo.

    ?

Them and the dozens of police officers, emts and randomers who jumped over the scaffolding as soon as the first bomb went off, they had no clue that the bombing was finished.

People calling this a "minor explosion" have watched too many movies. There is more to an explosion than the bombastic fire and smoke you see in a Michael Bay blockbuster.

This explosion, even if it originated from a small backpack, could easily have a big enough force from its shockwave to hurts dozens of people without showcasing any huge "movie-ike" flame.

21: 59 GMT: Police Commissioner denies any arrests have been made but "multiple people" are being investigated. There is a "heavy police presence" at every hospital in the city.

Sky were stressing that he's not in custody, he's not a suspect he's just a person of interest and they reported Boston PD confirmed it.

"Another point to try to clarify is information that was coming to us about an arrest. Now there is some indication, with Boston Police Department officials confirming, there is a man in his twenties who is being placed under police guard at a local hospital. He's being treated as a potential suspect, again though we caution not reading too much into that because often, as I say, after an incident like this people maybe put under police guard, maybe arrested, taken into police custody, questioned, their stories verified and they're completely cleared and exonerated."

    Also,
Obama to address the U.S. in the next few minutes.

Sky News now reporting there is nobody under guard...

A great amount of thanks has to be given to the medics/police/general public etc.. for the rapid response they gave in this situation. Without them the situation would be 10 times worse. It's amazing to see people come together when a disaster strikes, no matter why it happened.

The scenes of the medics running towards the injured is a testament to their good hearts. Massive sympathy goes out to the families who have lost someone, who has an injured friend/relative and those who have been caught up in the scenes and been separated from their loved ones.

Lots of speculation going around now about who did it, but at this time does it really matter? Let's speculate about the causes after the carnage has been cleared and everyone is safe and well.
