Two things from the scanner -

    1) Now searching participants from marathon as they enter hotel (understandable)

    2) Mention of a van again (didn't catch exactly what they said)

Was thinking that myself. Chances are 2 people could die in a crash tonight in Ireland and barely get a mention, yet RTE are all over this on prime time.

Its being blown out of all proportion, excuse the pun.

If you can't notice the difference then you're deluded.

Another gritty photo on the front of the NY Times website. The poor woman's foot seems very very badly burnt (obviously contains very graphic content).

I'm very surprised at the media coverage of this, the photo's are indeed extremely graphic and I'm sure a large amount of people would have seen the photo of the man with the decimated legs on the wheelchair.

I wonder will this become one of those "I remember where I was when the Boston Bombings happened" days?. I certainly remember where I was when 911 happened. There was a strange atmosphere then. This feels similar..

Not extreme coincidence. You'd assume there's a decent number of fires in Boston on any given day.

I guess but the JFK library is a pretty symbolic building to randomly catch fire at the same time is it not? As as I said, I think the police commissioner said they are now treating it as being related although I'm open to correction on that.

Sky will need double and triple confirmation before they report anything. That's the difference between twitter and a credible news channel.

Its a series of deliberately caused explosions during an event thats unfolding live in front of people eyes. Of course its going to draw a lot more attention than most other stories.

I usually have twitter opened up every day at work and, honestly, following AlJazeera news, it seems like every second day there's a car bombing/suicide bombing etc and it never ever get mentions in mainstream westernised news.

Apparently the life of an American is greater than that of any in the Middle East.

It's horrible to see innocent lives lost or completely ruined no matter where in the world they are.

Marathon ain't in New York though.

Fairly sure someone said on Sky News that the reports of helicopters would be normal. I assumed it was to do with the Marathon, maybe it was NY?

Agreed, the feverish excitment over lets face it, was 2 pretty minor explosions is unreal.

It's a series of bombs in what is a relatively calm US first world city which rarely sees events of this kind. The Boston marathon and the participants likely have absolutely no connection to any world at the minute. I think this deserves a bit of attention.
