Wonder will someone takes responsibility for this? I'm thinking a home grown terror attack. Whoever is behind it, I hope they rot in hell.

You can't blame New York authorities for stepping up security though.

New York, well Manhattan for definite, will be the safest place in the world tonight. As others have said, let's hope this doesn't escalate any further, dreadful scenes.

Similar to security at the airport. Sniffer dogs, metal detectors. They will of had all of these at the event, I'm just surprised nothing was found. It's won't have been easy to bring two bombs into such an area.

Probably had them in a hotel beforehand, then walk onto the street.

At least 31 people dead after bomb blast in Baghdad today. Just thought I'd mention it.

Sky News are reporting Boston PD do have someone under guard at a hospital but they're stressing he's a potential suspect.
Fox news reporting a person of interest is in custody.

I'd imagine this is a case of chinese whispers after the New York Post report.

Thought I heard the police commissioner saying they were treating the JFK incident as being related to the other 2. Would be an extreme coincidence otherwise wouldn't it?

Why? Stop pathetically trying to score political points. Start your own thread about Iraqis.

Not extreme coincidence. You'd assume there's a decent number of fires in Boston on any given day.

On street metal detectors along 26 miles of the marathon route to search over 100k people?? Are your serious?

That picture of the guy in the wheelchair. Anyone who asks "Why didn't X do something to help instead Z" or something along those lines.
Ask yourself, if that's what you're confronted with, could you do anything?
Its a perfectly understandable reaction to turn and run or stand and do nothing. No one should be criticised for it!

Seriously, fair fcuks to Boston's response unit. They're doing great work down there. And if there's one thing that actually restores faith in humanity is seeing the footage of people on the news who, straight after the bomb went off, instead of running away, ran towards the people who needed help.

+1 to this. The first video I see of this incident is a crowd of people running away from the intial explosion and a firefighter in full gear running towards it.

Was thinking that myself. Chances are 2 people could die in a crash tonight in Ireland and barely get a mention, yet RTE are all over this on prime time.

Its being blown out of all proportion, excuse the pun.

How many people here have ever been to, have family and freinds there compared with Boston? One is out of the ordinary, the other sadly isn't. But then again, you could have started a thread on that bombing....

I'm sorry, but this annoys me. What has that got to do with the topic of this thread? Start a new thread, and encourage conversation there about your link above.

The reality is that there is a greater affinity here in Ireland to events in the US, and particularly Boston, then there is with events in Baghdad. Rightly or wrongly, that is just the truth of the matter. With that in mind, what is the point of throwing that link in here?

However, there was that report of a black male acting suspeciously. That guy in the photo doesn't have a black hoodie ( or any top for that matter in) so perhaps they were being arrest happy on anyone who fitted that vague discription

    That's normal for a Marathon.
