Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. I'm convinced that second beardy guy is the same one who has started this fake "myoptions" website.

    Total anti choice nutter anyway.

Okay, but I would still listen to what she says and decide myself what is right or wrong. Definitely wouldn't label someone as crazy or a unicorn because I don't agree with their viewpoint. Granted she sensationalises some things but other things are worth thinking about.

Can you clarify, do you think there's a Zionist plot to take over the globe? Do you even believe in the holocaust?

Why not? Not all opinions are equal and right now, Gemma's are up there with the crazies who wander around barking at walls and mumbling to themselves.

That's a lovely way to speak about the mentally ill.

Nope, keep an open mind, hear both sides and make an informed decision. Saying she's batshlt crazy or unicorn fart shows a lack of counter argument.

The thing is the arguments she makes are extreme, bigoted, far right, crazy, lacking in evidence and pretty much tin foil hattery. Like when examining an argument you look at the source of it. Gemma is an unreliable source. There is no point listening to Gemma with an objective open mind when she is just gone completely bonkers in her racism, xenophobia, anti semitism, transphobia, homophobia world view. Lets face it. She is gone full on Trumpesque fascist.

I have made an informed decision on her arguments. They are hateful bigotry.

It was so much easier to blame it on Them. It was bleakly depressing to think that They were Us. If it was Them, then nothing was anyone's fault. If it was us, what did that make Me? After all, I'm one of Us. I must be. I've certainly never thought of myself as one of Them. No one ever thinks of themselves as one of Them. We're always one of Us. It's Them that do the bad things.

She's not an alternative, she's simply realised she can monatize her thoughts on her choice of media, she's not the only one.

Her buddy moneleux is a dangerous ****er too "speaking as a philosopher..." no you're not you're a racist by definition....
And I'm not even a fan of Islam or open borders

I hope this doesn't sound condescending, but at this stage, I don't think we should discount the idea that G'OD should seek some medical assistance.

I say that as someone who knows people living with various disorders involving paranoia, not saying it to insult or disparage her. I remember her appearing on TV before her very public firing from the Indo, and she was a rock of sense. Something has gone terribly wrong.

I've heard all of the freeman/"global marxist" bollocks I have the time for. The results are in and it doesn't look good for Mrs O'Doherty. That being said, she seems made for J Waters and I hope they settle well together.

Chances are she wouldn't seek it voluntarily, and it seems like the people she is knocking around with won't be knocking down Mensa's doors soon.
Also the mouth breathing oxygen thieves who lap up the conspiracy nonsense are only enabling her.

Yeah, apparently that's the nature of paranoia disorders. Those who live with such disorders have no insight into their problems. It's inevitably friends and family who have to seek medical assistance.

On the one hand it feels wrong to mention this, I'm not a doctor and I have no idea if it has any relevance. On the other hand, there's absolutely nothing wrong with having such a disorder and it's nothing to be ashamed about.

I just find it strange that GO'D has gone from being such a sensible journalist to endorsing every kind of conspiracy theory that is out there.

I dont know. I half think she doesnt believe any of the stuff and that she has spotted that there is a gap in the market for all this stuff. She has seen that internationally the extreme far right is growing and that she can make money from pretending to support its causes here in Ireland.

On the other hand all of her positions and arguments are totally incoherent and inconsistent.. One week she claims to strongly support something like refugee rights, the next shes attacking them.

Yeah, I used to think she was just trying to find a market, but a journalist of her former standing could have been employed anywhere. She's destroying her career. I'm not trying to play the armchair psychiatrist, but neither is it funny at this stage. I think we should tread carefully here, and perhaps ignore her altogether.

She was waffling on about fluoride in the water as far back as the early 2000s. She didn't just pick all this conspiracy nonsense up in the last year or two. It's been a slow march down the rabbit hole.

If she was that cynical she would still be at the independent group who would lap up an alt right columnist/ journalist.
Sadly or happily that isn't likely to be the case.

Is Gemma still writing for Village Magazine? That is a pretty lefty/socialist magazine, Vincent Browne used to be Editor. She was writing in it last time I read it and definitely last year. Gemma wasn't always like this, she was always more socialist and anti corruption. She surely knows what communism is, to see her state outside Google that we are "living in a communist dictatorship" is fairly surreal.

Like others I can't decide if she is just chasing money or gone down the rabbit hole. But she doesn't appear to be on patreon or soliciting donations from supporters like other similar folk. I don't see how she could be making any money from doing this. It would probably lose her writing work.

Loving this. She posted it yesterday. If you click on the article its actually from July 2014! And she complains about fake news.

I suppose it just shows how much reach you can have if you just shout and be loud. She has no followers or supporters really as we saw from her presedential attempt and her pathetic "occupation" of Google. lol. 5 or 6 really bored people with nothing else to do.

I'm not sure about the socialist bit, I remember her appearing on Tonight With Vincent Browne and being quite far removed from socialism, but more concerned with the transparency of decision-making.

She's now taken that ball and has run off the pitch with it, into the arms of paranoiacs and conspiracy theorists. It's sad to watch.

So you are okay with the sexualisation of a 10 year old kid in a gay pride march or the spraying of chemicals in the sky that spread out forming a hazy mist falling down on us? I would be embarrassed for your naivety and lack of principles.

It's funny how the Irish political party she bashes the most is Sinn Fein and yet that's the party she tried the most to get to nominate her for the presidential race. While her platform then was based around anti-corruption a lot of the topics that she embraces now she had denied then.

For all her tub thumping about lying politician and global political/business conspiracies she's shown herself to be one of the most flimflamming, disingenuous and conspiratorial movers out there.

A lot of them probably have some kind of subacute or actual mental illness.

We all have a responsibility to stop addressing these opinions as though they're genuine political positions - they are not. They are based entirely in delusion, and it wouldn't at all surprise me if many - or most - of these people were living in an ongoing state of delusion, in a medical context.

I think we should all reflect on what harm we might be causing by perpetuating this 'debate' with people who may very well lack insight into their own mental health. It's all very well to laugh at them, but in doing so, it's we who may be the greatest fools. At the very least, it might be for the best just to ignore these statements.

I have no time for these beliefs, but given the tenacity with which they are held, I don't believe that those advancing such beliefs are generally in the fullest of their mental health. And I don't think there's anything smart or funny about engaging with them, or making them a laughing stock.

You could be right. But people believe some crazy stuff. I know people who are anti vaccination. They believe weird stuff about crystals and natural healing

One of them works for the place that sells this
    https://www.ishskoproducts.com/collections/gemstone-blueprint-essences/products/aquamarine-essence

Another has a job as an "arm". You know when one of those bull**** healers tries to find out what you're allergic to by giving you a vial of water in one hand and an electrode in the other? Well her job is to hold the persons hand in one hand and the electrode in the other. Because apparently having a person there makes it better somehow.

There's essential oils, that's essentially a cult based around quackery.

These are absolutely crazy ideas and there's many people out there who believe them. These people are otherwise perfectly rational.

So whereas you're right, people with issues tend to believe this stuff. I don't know if we can say that everyone who believes this stuff has issues. It may be that they've just gone so far down the rabbit hole that they've brainwashed themselves.

I love this clip on the jim jeffries show where a load of QAnon start talking. At one point you can see each of they say something so crazy that the others all look at the person talking with disbelief.
