Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Someone on SRK posted a quick review of the Hori V3.
Good signs, this could be the next "Namco stick" :)

A-Trak was looking for details on where I bought the faceplate for my stick so here it is:

Bought from this guy on SRK:
    http://www.shoryuken.com/showthread.php?t=199891

    Here's some more info:
    http://web.me.com/patricksummers/Site/Bloggy_thing./Entries/2009/8/5_TE_Plexi_Covers.html

I think PPC said he used the same guy earlier in this thread.

Anyway, recently I started to feel the stick was getting really loose so I decided to open it up and use a spring K.O.Kiki gave me a few weeks back. It's worked wondered, the resistance on the stick is perfect now

While I had the top off I decided to try out my second artwork for a while.

Anyone know what the extra drop down box when ordering buttons on Akihabara Shop is all about?

Its the switch type you want in it

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,041 ✭✭✭✭chopperbyrne

It doesn't let you select them both though!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,396 ✭✭✭PPC

Ah, seems its just extra switches and nuts for screw in's.
They should come included, the option is just there if you want spares it seems.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,878 ✭✭✭bush

Ya just select the colour you want, never mind the second box.

    Cheers.

Just ordered six buttons and two plugs.

Hopefully they'll arrive before the 4th of March.

Anyone know how long Akihabara Shop normally take?

week and a half the last time I ordered

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,878 ✭✭✭bush

I ordered stuff lately. It took 5 days before they shipped it but took less than a week to get here when they did get around to shipping it. That was by air mail.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,910 ✭✭✭Sisko

is this the best place to order buttons etc from? Gonna order my stuff soon too.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,878 ✭✭✭bush

http://www.etokki.com/ is a good site too in korea, cheap shipping and fast delivery. They dont have as much stuff as http://www.akihabarashop.jp/ but I think if they do have what you want they work out cheaper. Its worth trying both sites and see which works out cheaper.

Out of curiousity, why do none of you order from gremlinsolutions.co.uk?
Haven't bothered checking all the prices, but the JLF is around £18 from both, plus the delivery must be a lot faster.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,910 ✭✭✭Sisko

yeah I'm just looking for whatever Sanwa stick goes in the SE and 6 sanwa buttons so whatever place is the cheapest I'll go for.

I've been thinking lately about my next possible project (I'm turning into Kiki :P)

So there's a new pcb in the market now which has native support for xbox360 and ps3/pc out of the box. This is the one. Turns out that its designed by Datel and that they've actually cracked the security on xbox controllers to do this! Info here.

Then i found this on amazon and even though it is horrible it contains the dual pcb and is ridiculously cheap!

People on SRK have been able to hook up this pcb using only quick disconnects (no soldering) which saves a lot of hassle.

My plan would be to rip the pcb out of the cheap datel stick and place it into a madcatz TE shell (with no pcb in it). Thing is, in order to do it without soldering I would have to keep the start/select/guide/turbo buttons connected to the pcb and make them somehow pressable from outside the TE shell.

'Tis a mad plan, but I'm just speculating! But it would be a damn cheap and easy way of getting dual compatibility without converters.

Side note: if anyone is selling a TE shell without pcb then let me know!!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,041 ✭✭✭✭chopperbyrne

Surely there'd be some soldering needed?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,985 ✭✭✭animaX

Only if you need to remove the start/select/guide/turbo buttons from the cheap stick. Then you would have to resolder. If you could somehow leave them on the pcb and incorporate them into the outer shell then you wouldn't need to solder (i think!).

Pretty easy. Guide here. I don't really like the look of the shell though, or the button layout.

Having owned a Mayflash for a while now, they're lovely little sticks and I'd definitely recommend them if you need something compact. Not too hard to mod and surprisingly comfy despite all the size of it.

    Because they're Brits :pac:

Nah j/k, I never ordered from them when the Pound STG was strong, and their online order system was too complicated (using Excel IIRC).

Some horrible pics of my 1st modded stick ever:

Still have to slap in the ps1 pcb though

Really is hard to make it out with this ****ty phone pics but meh.

Would love to have 3 more dark gray buttons with red outlines. And move 2 red and black buttons to the side replacing those fully red ones.

As the dark gray buttons go really nice with the case.

How did you do the art in the end? Did you spraypaint the body?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,910 ✭✭✭Sisko

Dark gray vinyl dye, (wanted black :( ) Art was printed out on an a4 page, laminated etc

I used the metal face plate to cut out the holes etc and double sided sticky tape to stick it on there.

It turned out far better then I expected, despite so many **** ups along the way:

    -Wrong colour dye

-Art work printed too big, not even that happy with the artwork but I just wanted to get something done.

-****ed up the paint job a little , one of the corners looks like its been scratched a bit. (you'd have to look for it though)

  • Registered Users Posts: 3,006 ✭✭✭Ramza

I am actually going for somehing similar as it happens, a red body, top row of black buttons, bottom red, and red/black art scheme

    And a green balltop :pac:

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,910 ✭✭✭Sisko

Wont the green stand out? anyway I can recommend the laminated double sided tape method, cheap , easy to do over if you mess up , no online ordering needed and gives nice results.

Can't see in the pics there but the art work is nice and shiny.

But as the sanwa dark hai buttons go so well with the cursed dark grey I painted it , I'd really love to now just have 6 dark hai with red outline buttons, instead of 3.

Anyone have any spare or willing to swap? :D

Ive got 4 dark hai buttons, you can have em.

  • Registered Users Posts: 3,006 ✭✭✭Ramza

Soooo I got my artwork put on the stick, with a slight hitch

When I got the art home I saw it was too big, as in scalewise. The buttons holes are way too big, but the stick outline is fine. So I thought, I can either have lined up stick and Vewlix logo all showing, and non alligned buttons, or alligned buttons with too big outlines, no vewlix logo and stick outline non alligned

Or I can go back and get it re-done and throw my money away

Being a poor bastard, I went with the former! It looks fine, only the button holes don't even allign xD

Probably goign to get a slagging but to be really honest I couldn't give two ****s, I was like aww **** it, I'll just stick it on

    Pics up later

aww **** man sorry bout that, it lines up perfect with the template from srk

I know right? Makes no sense, but it's totally cool, as to be honest, I don't really mind :)

    But yeah, it's odd

When printing off the artwork its best to have the holes and gaps turned off on the template and print from the psd file itself for best results.

  • Registered Users Posts: 3,006 ✭✭✭Ramza

You'll see it tomorrow if yer up, it's pretty damn funny, but to be honest I don't give a toss

And I'm not just saying, not arsed replacing it, sure it'll do!

I went and bought one of these on impulse today. Just felt like it! Can't believe how cheap it is, €39.50 including delivery for the holy grail of pcbs :)

The whole stick is cheaper than buying the same pcb separately here! I think microsoft are currently taking legal action so these pcbs might become a rare item.

Now to buy a TE and stick this baby inside it

Terry, i recently bought a TE and i like the look of this myself!!.
Is it a big job to do it??. Was gonna go with the chimp board to play on PS3 but all that soldering put me off.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 18,731 ✭✭✭✭K.O.Kiki

VSHG, yellow balltop, counter-sunk HRAP Start button.
Dual-mod if I think I can do it.

    MyVSHG.jpg

Madcatz SE, now with Start button on top!

I have an idea in my head of how to mod will go, transplanting the pcb into a TE, and i think its not too big a job. That might change when its delivered and i look inside it though :pac:

I'll do a write-up and make a thread out of it when i do it. Take a few pictures along the way. Need to get my hands on a cheap TE first though

Note: there also is the possibility (no idea how likely) that microsoft will somehow refuse this pcb in an xbox update, since Datel have cracked microsofts controller security. This couldn't happen if you went the chimp + pad-hack route

Thanks man, food for thought there. I'll wait and see how you get on before i get the chimp board methinks.

My plan now is to make this my second stick, and when I have some cash, buy barrys SE shell from his broken SE stick. Put the sanwa parts in that along with a ps1 pcb. Paint it and put new artwork on it, so this one served as a prototype :D

    Clearer pics now though:

That's a very good point, and I just bloody bought one. :pac:

Might have to get my hrap dual modded anyway then, and hold some important papers down with this.

Well it will always work on ps3 so it won't be completely useless! I doubt microsoft will bother coming out with an update just to stop these, they're not widespread enough

Just finished adding the parts to a namco shell i had.

    OMSXSl.jpg

I installed 6x OBSF buttons until i can get around to ordering some OBSN's.
Had to shave the bottom off of the JLF and some of the bottom panel to make the stick fit.

That balltop is sweet! Is there actually a mesh feel to it or is that just purely cosmetic?

Just cosmetic, fells like the stock jlf ball in texture and weight.

Wouldn't mind trying one of these http://www.arcadeshop.de/Own-Label-Balltop-AB-35-black-metallic_967.html
