Obviously by friend I mean someone I met once who through the wonders of facebook keeps me up to date of her exciting life.

    She sounds delightful!

This girl personifies everything that is wrong with facebook. Here are her status updates from the past 2 weeks.

Yes all that from the past 2 weeks.

More or less less is more. Surprised she has time to sip on her wine with that amount of status updates.

Do you bother with it anymore or are you addicted.
I check it the odd time now to use the chat thingy but other than that for me it's gotten ridiculous with the amount of marketing and advertising.

Facebook is the ruination of society. And so says all of me.

Did you know people are getting paid to mention products in their Facebook statuses?

That's as crazy as the discounts at Dave's Furniture Emporium...

A grandmother on her deathbed tells her grandchild, "I want to leave you my farm. Everything - the buildings, the land, the livestock, the farmhouse and €5 million in cash."

The grandchild is absolutely gobsmacked. She always thought that her grandma secretly hated her, but now she was going to leave her a fortune.

"Oh grandma, you are SO generous! I didn't even know you had a farm. Where is it?"

And with her last breath, Grandma whispers, "On Facebook..."

    WTF is facebook?

  • Registered Users Posts: 42,080 ✭✭✭✭Scorpion Sting

I hardly ever go on it anymore. Not too pleased about this change to Timeline but I suppose I'll get used to it. The old profile looks much less complicated though, don't know why they feel the need to bring all these new features in.

It worked because it was simple.

It is now buggy and complicated.

    Bebo was buggy and comlicated.

    Bebo be dead.

Facebook is becomming bebo and will be next and the next simple online site will destroy it.

Pintrest is going to be the next big thing. Rinse and repeat

Pretty much this, most of the new features don't work and now some of the old features are buggy and glitchy.

As soon as people find an easier way to communicate and stalk their friends it'll be a thing of the past.

I have an account but the only reason I signed up was to to check a sports team fan page

I have one friend and that's the sister and I've never invited anyone
I have seventeen friend requests and I don't even know who half of them are. Friends of friends, never met them in my life

I have one like and that's a baseball player and I selected like on the baseball site just to test it
Fed through to facebook, I was very impressed :)

I had a look at timeline for some people and it's horrendously difficult to follow and look at.
With all the engineers in facebook surely they could have kept it simple

Simple and clean and crisp is always best.

the worst are the apps to do stuff...every time i sign in on my home page i get greated with alota sh*t such as "tom watched home and away eposide 2342 on dailymotion"....
the problem with facebook at the minute is more and more orgainisations (mainly business's/groups) are trying to gain peoples info and as its so easy to do it.
I remember a got an update stating "martin bought nike football boots of amazon" apparently he clicked on some agreement on amazon that it would upload on his facebook all linked via one email address...can you imagine if he had bought something a little more personal...
Data protection laws are completelty outdated when it comes social surveillance of personal information and facebook is your prime example

Its one horrible website. Why change the simplicity of it? Thats what made it good. Going down the route of bebo imo.

I should go away now and design steal a new website exactly like Facebook circa 2008. I bet it would do better once people realize how **** it has become and liked the older layout better.

    That's way out of line
I could throw in some AH post about buying porn from amazon but I was more thinking of what about buying books about suicide, depression or self confidence or something very personal.

And facebook and the people on your profile get to see what you bought?

Was very close to deleting my account a few months back...

But since then I've joined a cycling club who do most of their stuff through Facebook so its only used to let them know if I'm heading on the club spin, club nights and/or cycling advice or help...

Also a friend is heading back to Oz, so it will be useful for keeping in touch with him, once his over there again...

So for those two reason's I'll still be on Facebook, but its fairly sh!te to be honest, and very intrusive. I don't know how many apps, pages and other crap I've unliked, removed and whatnot in the last week, in an effort to have some level of privacy...

Is Google+ different to Facebook, or is just the same old crap packaged up a little differently?

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,937 ✭✭✭patwicklow

FB is total rubbish next there will be a way so when you have a sh!te it will post to your page stating that you did, maybe even a smell button who knows
    best to be avoided!!

im deadly serious go on amazon and see if their still at it.i have just done a simple browse and it comes up, tho it says amazon will not share purchase info with facebook...i know it defo came up because i asked about it
theirs nice ways of marketing such as tescos CRM as its quite personal ie between tesco and you...even amazon do it quite well ie when you buy a book it will say "other people who bought this book also bought this and this"

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 12,395 ✭✭✭✭mikemac1

Yeah Amazon are good at using Amazon data and how they make suggestions, that's welcome
Amazon with Amazon info, Tesco with Tesco info, no problem at all with that

But no way in hell should facebook be showing what you are buying from other sites, especially since it's friends and family who will be seeing. I understand facebook need advertising and sure so do boards.ie, that's grand but this is a step too far
Christ, imagine you were an insecure teenager and buying LGBT books and that came up on your profile. Some will be strong but others may be destroyed if that got around

Never signed up with bebo or farcebook so don't really know what all the fuss is about but I'm guessing it's along the line of what Google has done since buying YouTube which has resulted in many users closing and/or deleting their accounts in favour of a new site (Zippcast) along the lines of the 'old' style of YT.

Me,I still like to buy my books in a book store,my clothes from a clothes shop etc etc,I like meeting up with friends and talking about whats been happening since last seeing them or just sharing the info we want each other to know about.........and I only use my phone when it rings or if I need to make a call.

Life is easier that way, nice n simple!

p.s. I love seeing the posts where people start with lines like "I have a farcebook account but....." is there a stigma attached to having an account these days?
