    Guys,
They don't seem to have said anything about new hardware for wp7!!!
    I'm currently using a hd2 and it's time for a change.
I watched with envy yesterday as HTC announced the new Android flagship the Sensation. I want a HTC WP7 with those specs please.
Anybody know anything regarding plans for new phones, especially HTC? Or do ye think they are waiting for Mango before releasing hardware.

I could have sworn the new Android flagship was called the Google Nexus S :p

I'm also keen to see how long it takes HTC to update this to later versions of Android. They gave up on the HTC Hero pretty quickly. Still waiting on Froyo over here

why dont you just put WP7 and Android on your HD2???

I did do a bit of that.
However I did a lot of that with the HD2 and now find it runs a little slow and some apps just stop randomly. I tried wiping it but still a few problems.

Also I have to admit I just want a new phone to play with.:):)

Anyone having problems updating to NoDo? I keep getting error code 8000fff. I have reset and wiped my phone twice and am unable to even restore my phone since that error keeps coming up. I have also updated Zune and uninstalled/reinstalled.

Try reading a bit here http://www.microsoft.com/windowsphone/en-us/howto/wp7/new-features.aspx

Try deleting all the apps, music and free up space (except games). It worked for a few people

Thats more than likely problems with the memory card. I loved it the first time i put it on my ex hd2 :) So i just got a HD7 then and moved to Omnia 7 after cause got it at a very low price and sold HD7

I went from a HD2 to iPhone 4 and now to an Omnia 7 all under a year, so you're not alone there :P

How do you find the Omnia?

Yeah went through all those steps about 10 times last night even resetting the phone to factory settings twice and still no luck

I love it. Coming from the Retina Display I was kind of nervous that I wouldn't like the SAMOLED screen, but it's as good.. if not better colour wise at least!

The phone itself is pretty nice to hold, feels solid and looks amazing. It's fast and all of the buttons feel well placed and respond just fine.

The only gripe I have is the battery isn't anything amazing. Again, it could just be me coming from the iPhone 4; but I think it could be better. I get a day out of it with normal browsing, email, FB & maybe a bit of gaming.

It can also be a bit slippy if that makes sense? I dropped mine once and almost dropped it more than I'd like!

I'm really happy with it overall though, and I'd highly recommend it! :)

Thats why i ordered that vynil skin from America :) solves all the grip issues without having to increase the thickness.

Yeah I seen that dude, was actually playing around with a few skins based around the 360S, think I'll have to invest.

Are they hard to put on? I'm useless at putting on screen protectors, nothing but dust and bubbles lol!

Had my share of bubbles and peels of :) seem to be getting better at it now :D

Foxhole you could try debranding your phone and installing just a Europe brand free generic rom. Would solve all the issues with O2 branded roms :) I had a guide written somewhere a good few pages back. Did it myself before selling my HD7 :)

Otherwise bring it into the shop you bought it in so they could put it in diagnostics.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,875 ✭✭✭Foxhole Norman

I'll have a look for those. Do you have any links for them? Its Unblocked as is for networks but i assume that doesnt affect the ROM

No that has nothing to do with it. Its still branded to O2. My HD7 was factory unlocked but still had O2 branding on it. Which also affected the update cycle being longer.

Took me 10 mins to find it :)

A Dublin Bus app would be great, especially with a Live Tile that tells you when the next bus is.
I currently have my bus times in a PDF on my phone, but I cant pin the file itself, just Adobe Reader.

Leave that with me for a while. No promises, you understand... but... ;)

Until then, there is the Bustxt service.

Ok, scratch what I said about the battery, it's doing my head in now!
I'm awake since 6am,it's now 11:15 and I've only used the phone lightly for email, browsing etc and it's already down to roughly a quarter. I'll be lucky if it doesn't die before 2pm :-/.

There has to be some kind of higher capacity battery I can buy?!

You must have update checking or something on. Mine lasts easily a day with data always on and browsing the internet every once in a while. about 3 hours of music per day and some games and apps

  • Moderators, Society & Culture Moderators Posts: 9,689 Mod ✭✭✭✭stevenmu

+1, I easily get a full day with calls, texts, browsing and games. Usually two with only calls, texts and light browsing. (games seem to be the real battery killer for me)

Try turning the phone off and on again in case there's some background process stuck in a loop sucking up power. Also did you charge it for long? I find if I only charge it until it says it's full it doesn't last as long as a charge overnight.

I can get 5 hours out of mine with continuous bluetooth audio streaming to a car kit.

    Lg optimus 7

Bluetooth must take a heavy toll then. Because My Optimus 7 lasts about a day with wifi on, and heavy gaming.

Well for streaming probably does. I usually never notice reduction in battery life on mine if i leave bluetooth on or off.

    Hmm, this is becoming worrying.

During the roughly 6-7 hours it took to empty the battery today, this is how I had my phone set, as it is most days:

    Wifi off.
    Brightness low.
Find My Phone>Get results faster un-checked.
    Bluetooth Off.
Both email accounts are set to receive new mail manually.
    Location On.
    Data obviously on.
    Phone update both un-checked.
Send Feedback on, but only on wifi.

About a week ago I forced NoDo as I said here, and then like I also said, got a ton of problems.
Messages would disappear after I hit send, then 10 seconds later appear in the thread, animations in and out of the home screen/apps etc werent as slick as normal, they were very jumpy.

So I tried to restore to the Feb update (with the help of Windows Phone Support on Twitter) to no luck. I asked them if reseting the phone to factory settings would put me back to pre NoDo and they said yeah it would leave me back with the Feb update.
Except it didn't it left me with NoDo and while the phone is running perfect and smooth now, the battery life seems to have plummeted.

My other half seems to think the OS is using/doing something in the background to steal power, but then again he is an Apple fanboy so I'm not sure if there's any truth in that :p

Yeah I charge it every night, so it would get around 7 or 8 hours.

LONG post I know, but I just want to avoid sending it back to Samsung or anything similar, any help would be extremely appreciated! :)

Might be a problem with the battery.

Mine just gave up on me on Sunday. Didn't want to take in charge.

So i just gave the phone to meteor and let them deal with it.

As i said i get pretty good battery life with Omnia 7 and it is used quite often.

HD7 didnt have as great battery life. Kept dying around 8pm everyday.

Samsung goes hardcore all day and could easily last 24 hours.

Yeah I was thinking that, it'd be my luck to get the 1 in 1000 faulty batterys!
I'm on bill pay meteor, but I bought the phone sim free from Pixmania, so I don't think Meteor are any use to me. :(

Turn off location - that's GPS and eats battery life! I have the Omnia 7 and easily get a day or more out of it with moderate to heavy usage (but I never have location or wifi on).

This may or may not be a ridiculous question, depending what way you look at it!

But wouldn't that mean I can't use foursquare?

That seems to have worked. I won't know for a few days but fair play to you. You might just have saved me from buying a phone and in a few short months being annoyed with myself when the next generation show up with Mango!

By the way do you know why the memory card was the problem? I like to think that I know a bit about technology but I don't see how the card was the problem.

    Thanks

Yep it won't know your location but you can always quickly turn on gps when you need it.
To the above poster, in my experience having location turned on actually does deplete battery life quite a bit. Also, if you have "find my phone" enabled this will keep the GPS looking for a satellite all the time because it is constantly recording your movements.
