Mine doesn't. I'd take that back. Mines solid as a rock.

Have seen some other posts about the squeak on other forums, some of the older LG's had the issue too. Will have to get onto Vodafone as only have it two months.

Anyone else with an Optimus 7 notice a squeak in the top left corner of the screen when pressed?

No squeaks on my Optimus, I'd have it checked if I were you.

Tbh at this stage ill live with it for a while. Just knowing for the fact how long it will take to get some achieved from either a meteor shop (probably nothing) or Samsung (id rather shoot myself in the foot than talk to another one of their reps)

I had lots of creeks on my old HD7. Hence why i got rid of it cause i cant stand it...

Heres a question for all you Windows Phone users, how often are new apps appearing (Or old apps getting updated) in the HTC, Samsung, etc, App Stores?

I've an LG Optimus 7, and I'm starting to wonder about the LG App Store. They say they'll update it every 60 days, but its been more than that since they last added a single app (Not entirely true, they added a Korean keyboard a couple of weeks ago).

Lucky u :) Samsung keeps removing apps of its store :) left with 5 apps now. 4 Off them are completely useless...

HTC are pretty good at developinng apps; they have a fair few and most of them are fairly useful. They added a Compass app in the last month, which is pretty good considering there are no proper compass apps available on the marketplace yet due to API restrictions.

They also have some useful Notes / Lists apps, converters, a flashlight (that uses the camera LED)

But most importantly they have plugged a few gaps in the functionality of WP7 itself; "Hidden Wifi" allows you to connect to Wifi networks that are not broadcasting an SSID, and "Attentive Phone" has features like silencing your phone by placing it face down, ringing louder when in your pocket, and shushing the ringtone when you pick the phone up. Pretty good.

Only negative thing I have to say is that HTC don't seem to stick to the Metro design asthetic, and design their apps like they were for iPhone or Android.

I had a few of the HTC apps on my phone thanks to the folks over at XDA, I was quite impressed with the HTC Hub and the YouTube player. LG have something like the HTC Hub, and its quite good, but it doesnt support live tiles, which is a shame.

    Fyi

There appears to be a new update out. Just fixes some vulnerabilities, still took a hell of a long time to install though.

Yeah I got this notification this morning too on my HD7 on O2. Haven't updated just yet though. If you didn't have Nodo before this notification then the update will also include and install that.

I was led to believe that those of use who forced the Nodo update using the Chris Walsh tool would not be able to get future updates? Obviously this is not the case? I used the tool to force Nodo but I'm still being offered this update like.

Got a "walshed" omnia 7. No security update.

I wonder if this will be delayed for the Omnia7 considering it also includes NoDo which appears to have been withdrawn for the Omnia?

any way of changing the colors of the tiles/menus to anything other than the standard ones? Can you put a picture on them(like one picture covering all of them?)

    I have the HTC HD7

    You cant.

The only custom thing is to download apps from the marketplace that you can set up a custom picture :) it wont be functional but can act as a pic frame :)

is there any free 'taskmanager' app? Can anyone recommend one?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,277 ✭✭✭evolutionqy7

First there isn't any :) there will be one with the next update. Third you don't need one. No real multi tasking so no need for one

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,277 ✭✭✭evolutionqy7

Talking of multi tasking :) came across this :)

Does it not have multitasking yet?

How about proper cutcopypasta? Any support for decent audio files like ogg or flac? Does it still need zune to interface with a pc? any proper usb drive functionality?
support for silverlight in the browser?

I took a wait and see approach to WP7 and I'm due an upgrade from meteor but tbh I don't see WP7 getting to a point that I'd use it without this sorta stuff.

Well you cant manage your tasks. You can run tasks in the background but theres no way to switch between them besides pressing the back button. So it does have it but its limited. Due Next upgrade

Best way to task switch is to use voice commands by holding down the windows button. It works seamlessly and hasnt failed once for me.

Copy Paste works great. Already was included in the first update.

Never used neither of them formats so no idea. MP3? :)

Zune Interface yes. You can set up a file explorer with HTC phones to copy and paste or drag and drop files via jailbreak.

Hardware accelerated HTML5 coming in the browser. I cant remember will silver light be included or not. Its somewhere on the road map anyway.

I dont think we will see USB Drive functionality. Like Xbox we will be eventually limited to Streaming content between PC, Xbox and WP7. Im sure we will know more details on the 24th. Kinect integration is the most interesting one i want to hear about :)

Either right now its a very good feature phone with tons of apps (in my opinion)
It will only get the title of a smart phone platform with the next update. Coming in a few months :)

Some stuff to look at for devs :)

Also loom up Gmaps. Possibly the best mapping app out there so far. It can finally find my address!!!!

I was an early adopter, and I'm very indifferent toward WP7. Thanks to a registry hack I've got a sort of multitasking, its multitasking, but without a task management system. Hitting the back key exits apps, while the Windows key just hides it. Proper multitasking is set to arrive toward the end of the year with the Mango update. More than a little disappointing.

As far as OGG and FLAC support, I dont think MS can be blamed for not supporting those, FLAC files are massive, so putting FLAC music on a 16GB phone is a little redundant. On top of that, they're not exactly mainstream formats, Google and Apple dont support them natively either.

Ok so I was playing around with my registry on my Focus and I found if I changed the following key:
    Code:
    HKLM\System\Platform\DeviceTargetingInfo\OemName
from SAMSUNG to either HTC or LG, in the Marketplace it changes from Samsung Zone to the other OEM's app repositories.

Also if you put in something like MICROSOFT it removes any OEM repository.

I also attempted to change the MOName from "AT&T Wireless" to "Microsoft" in order to get rid of AT&T's branding in the Marketplace but I couldn't get it to change. I think it might be linked to the SIM card. If anyone has any ideas please let me know as I hate with a passion carrier branding.

    Valid OemName Strings (case sensitive):
    SAMSUNG
    HTC
    LG

    Source XDA

I think ill need to try reflashing my phone to unlock it :D just sound enchancer app and flashlight is worth it :D

    Also USB Storage Enabler

And it works great :) :P And you dont need jailbreak. Just run the app and press enable. Make sure Zune is off!
You can see pics and music folders. So that should make most people happy :)

As far as making other App Stores availible. That doesnt mean Apps will work.

I've an LG Optimus 7. I'll list the apps that DO work (Most dont, so its faster to list what does). I'd imagine that these apps will be the same for Samsung users.

    From the HTC App Store:
    Attentive Phone
    Sound Enhancer

    From The Samsung App Store:
    Now
    Photogram

Its worth Noting that the Samsung apps PhotoSharing and PhotoStudio are semi-operational. They work one second, and crash the next. But as far as fully functioning Apps, the 4 listed are the only ones that I could get running.
