Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

An end of an era
Babe Ruth's final public apperance waving goodbye to the Yankee fans, on the 25th anniversary of Yankee Stadium (the House that Ruth built) and having his no3 jersey retired. Ruth died 2 months later.I'm moved each time I see it because it has great feeling--a man returning to the scene of his greatest successes, saying goodbye for the final time. The way triumph and sadness, pride and humility are one in this photograph give it a meaning that goes far beyond the story it tells as a newspaper illustration.

Todd Brownings 1932 movie entitled Freaks caused huge controversy when it was released as he used real life side show performers and "freaks" in the movie.It was banned for many years.
The use of Thalidomide in the late 50s/early 60s caused severe birth defects in children whose mothers had taken it whilst pregnant.
Some of these images are quite upsetting so havnt linked them.

Photos of white phosphorous bombs. Look quite nice from a distance - a bit like a jellyfish. They're regulated by international humanitarian law but in this case used by the Israeli army over a UN school where civilians were seeking refuge and in the same week over a crowded Palestinian refugee camp.
Worth a google for the effects if someone's hit, but I didn't post in case people had just eaten.
