Jeremiah Duggan's body on the Berliner Straße
    Duggan_scene_in_Wiesbaden.JPG

Not sure if this "shook the world" because i didn't hear about it until seeing a really, really good documentary on channel 4 a while back, but it should of if not.
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Death_of_Jeremiah_Duggan
contains the story, some strange goings on in this 'LaRouche movement'.
His mother is still to this day trying to get the case opened, as the documentary showed German law is different to UK law (she lives in the UK); If I remember correctly it's because if a case is ruled as suicide in Germany and no other party is classed as being 'directly involved' the case is shut and not looked at. If in the UK it would be opened and the organisation may be seen as Inciting terror (I think that was the term) and could be charged.
I found it pretty fascinating anyway, such a pity on all counts :(

Strange how there's dozens of photos of humans dying in unfortunate and tragic circumstances here, but pictures of a few birds dying gets a much more emotive response.

An absolute tragedy. It's scary just how quick it took hold. God bless everyone that lost their lives.

    An end of an era

    babe-ruth-bows-out2-jpg.jpeg?w=700&h=549

Babe Ruth's final public apperance waving goodbye to the Yankee fans, on the 25th anniversary of Yankee Stadium (the House that Ruth built) and having his no3 jersey retired. Ruth died 2 months later.
I'm moved each time I see it because it has great feeling--a man returning to the scene of his greatest successes, saying goodbye for the final time. The way triumph and sadness, pride and humility are one in this photograph give it a meaning that goes far beyond the story it tells as a newspaper illustration.

For anyone interested in this sort of thing there is an excellent book (which i have since the turn of the century). It contains thousands of pictures.

Century: One Hundred Years of Human Progress, Regression, Suffering and Hope, 1899-1999

East German soldier Conrad Schumann jumping over the Berlin Wall. Leibing’s photograph of the 19-year-old East German border guard throwing away his rifle as he hurled over barbed wire on his way into West Berlin was taken on August 15, 1961, two days after East Germany sealed off its border with the wall.

Fook him - he desreved it!

As for the Khmer Rouge pic - Asian people look so nice and innocent as a race until you see pics like that!

Those electric chair photos shocked me more than anything else on here!

I know these people have done horrible things, but these pictures just made me think about how brutal and bizzare the electric chair is..:/
