    Worst Aviation disaster
March 27, 1977. Two Boeing 747s collide on a fog-shrouded runway at Tenerife in the Canary Islands, killing 583 people in the worst accident in aviation history. Sixty-one people survive.

Vietcong "Revenge Squad Captain" being executed by officer. Photo doesnt tell you that the man being shot had executed dozens of unarmed civilians that morning.
Eddie Adams won a Pulitzer Prize for this in the late 60's

World Press Photo of the Year: 1980 Mike Wells, United Kingdom. Karamoja district, Uganda, April 1980. Starving boy and a missionary. About the image Wells felt indignant that the same publication that sat on his picture for five months without publishing it, while people were dying, entered it into a competition. He was embarrassed to win as he never entered the competition himself, and was against winning prizes with pictures of people starving to death

Poor old Kevin Carter, the guy who took this pic, commited suicide back in 1994
His picture of an emaciated girl collapsing on the way to a feeding centre, as a plump vulture lurked in the background, was published first in The New York Times and The Mail & Guardian, a Johannesburg weekly. The reaction to the picture was so strong that The New York Times published an unusual editor's note on the fate of the girl. Mr Carter said she resumed her trek to the feeding centre. He chased away the vulture.

Afterwards, he told an interviewer, he sat under a tree for a long time, "smoking cigarettes and crying". His father, Mr Jimmy Carter laid last night: "Kevin always carried around the horror of the work he did." - The New York Times

Can only imagine all the other suffering he seen to drive him to suicide.

Yes, rather than face up to the aftermath of the downfall, Magda Goebbels and the SS doctor gave the children cyanide and then had her husband shoot her before killing himself

    The Genesis Rock
The rock was formed in the early stages of the solar system, at least 4 billion years ago. It was retrieved from the Moon by Apollo 15 astronauts James Irwin and David Scott.
