    Hey guys and girls,

I did the aptitude test yesterday at 1530. I ran out of time on the analytical reasoning section. I answered 30/40 questions. I'm very annoyed at myself. That was a pathetic performance. I'm confident I answered them correct though.

What does everyone think my chances are?

TO quote myself and srdb from just 1 page earlier:

    ojewriej wrote: »
If I remember correctly, there is no set pass standard but you are being marked against other people.

I;m not 100% sure about that tbh, but even if i'm wrong, you shouldn't worry. There is little time assigned for this test, you only have 30 seconds for each question and plenty of people won't manage to answer them all. 35 questions is pretty good actually, I remember people who answered only around 30 passing to the next stage.
    srdb20 wrote: »
The pass for the analytical reasoning has been around 19 - 20 for the past two years, its based on an average of all the applicants scores.

If 1000 apply, 500 will be cut straight away after the Apt test.

Hi there, I have mine on the Saturday as well but have it in the morning, have to be there for half 9am and test starts at 10am. There is normally 2 tests on a day, one in the morning and another after lunch. So you might have the right time for it, test itself might start at 1pm. Ring Pas again to double check though, at lest it will ease your mind.

Just rang to confirm, i am in at 12.30pm, i was begining to get nervous thinking i mixed up the days.

Can someone PM me any useful websites with apt tests on them. I have completed all the tests on PAS as well as tests from a useless college who like to sting people with €265 bill

The college that stings people for €265 is a complete waste of time.. Its out of date and all it is, is photocopied paper. What a scam! Talk about easy money.
Didn't help for the exam at all, feel like asking for my money back.

I havent set my test yet but i feel the same after researching it. Why give exam papers that are out of date. Its crazy!! Hmmmm if we got a few of us together maybe we could get onto the consumer association....you know the whole "not fit for purpose"???

    Any takers??

Did the 40 sample questions even help you at all??

Thats not a bad idea, €275 is alot of money!!

I know at least 3 or 4 who feel the same way.

They helped a bit, and i mean bit, but that bit was not worth €275.

Even module 1, what a complete waste, there was no sense to it, even tips for the interview and stuff, like you can look that up any where for FREE, and thats probably what they done!!

So yeah, that idea is probably the way to go.

I am getting nervous about sitting my exam now, as i found the questions in the booklet easy enough! Are the questions much different?? Harder??

Did you find any sites or books useful??

I will follow it up on monday as i cant complain at the moment as i havent sat the exam yet......€265 for what we got is an absolute joke!!

    Hey Everyone,

Completed the Aptitude Test on Sat.- think i did enough to pass, well hopefully anyway.

    Few Questions;
When You recieve your results are you informed when the interviews are being held, are you given any dates? Are you told what to do next?
I'm off on my holidays on June 30th and won't be around for any interviews held in july

any info would be great, best of luck to all sitting the Aptitude tests in the next two weeks.

The higher up you score the sooner you get called for the next stage so it will vary with everyone as to when you will receive your own details - date and time for stage2...

The e-mail with your stage2 info will be sent to you message board on the publicjobs site like your results from stage1 ...

Did a course a few weeks ago, think it was a 170 and I am absolutely delighted that I did it, think it was the best money I ever spend even if I do not pass my test:confused:

did mine last saturday - only got 32 of the reasoning done - should be ok though as ive read that around 20 is the pass mark. as for the other two tests - i reckon the results are up in the air - they could go either way! I reckon around the 27th of this month the results will be out. Heres hoping for a big pass. They said at the apts that interviews will be held in july.

I was the same as you. Very worried about this section when I done it in Feb. I only answered 33 out of the 40 and like you felt i had most of them right. I was worried I wouldn't have enough to make the grade but passed no problem. In fact when I eventually got the results I had 32 correct out of the 33 I answered. So in my opinion people should take their time and be happy they are getting them right rather than rushing through to answer 40 and guessing half of them.
Another thing worth noting. If you see you have only 10 seconds left just very quickly tick any box of the remaining questions. You have nothing to lose because there is no negative marking ( you are not docked marks for incorrect answers, only awarded marks for correct ones). Who knows if you have ten boxes left and blind guess them you may get 1 or 2 of them right. better than leaving them blank. ONLY do this with about 10 or 15 seconds to go.

i was the same i found the first hurdle got me the most anxious. I had a feeling at every step i was going to be knocked back. Mother kept harking on about 'the power of positive thinking' and gave me this little book to read and just made me feel so much better about the whole process. they come out with some good advice on occassions, god love em :D

Cant wait to start now in august. :)

Yeah I see both sides here. Everyone wants to give the best advise but no matter how far gone you are in the process you would hate to go back a step. Widget this is early days and the anxiety is a curse but the wait after the interview is definately worse. Each stage will seem like worrying for nothing when you move on to the next one.

When you get to the stage Dr. Mason is at, it would absolutely kill you to go back to the start but I think if it had to be done he, and us all, would give it another shot.

You just have to get on with it and hope for the best.

OJ here is case and point. As much as I want this I dont think I would have his perserverence or conviction. To bounce back from this as many times as him and still look on it all positively is true dedication and belief in the goal.
I know I would give it one more shot but I reckon that would be it.
Remember everyone at whatever stage " what will be will be " and " what s for you wont pass you" . :)

Ah, sure it's all just a bit of laugh.

Truth is, both times I got my Dear John letter i said fcuk it, I'm not doing it again, only to change my mind as soon as I was able to apply again. It was a good exercise in patience, still is actually.

Well being a gard is what I always wanted to do ( being from Denmark, it was the danish police I always wanted to join) but when I got pregnant I had to put things on hold for a while and I realized that I am probably gonna stay in Ireland for the rest of my life now anyway so decided to apply and there is no stopping me now, if I fail I will keep on trying no matter how many times, the only thing that can stop me now is if I keep on failing and turn over 35, but still 8 years to go so hopefully I will manage to pass at some stage:)
