FDA have deemed J&J vaccine to be safe and effective, approval is imminent in the USA

Are they actually saying they can get 20 million by the end of March? That's a game changer.

Who's saying that? US or EU?

Now hopefully the EMA will have a speedy approval as well

I think it definitely makes sense for them in the border counties in particular. Both for travel for their own citizens and ours coming in and working there. You likely have people living in Letterkenny, Dundalk etc working in the North so i'd imagine they'd ideally like to vaccinate at least anyone working in the North but living in the South
Yep, and Donegal and Cavan seem to be doing much better in terms of cases relative to other counties than they were for much of the pandemic. Monaghan also doing better but still near the bottom of the class.

UK vaccination programme already helping us?

J and j are saying 20 million doses to the US by Q1 end. That's great if true

How will travel work say if 2 parents are vaccinated but have children under 16? I presume tests will be needed for the children? Or would mandatory quarantine still be needed?

Or is it likely the vaccines will be approved for children by then?

why is that great? maybe it comes from the Eus supply, the ones sent to the US for packaging

You are completely wrong. An un-named source in the EU claimed AZ would miss their numbers by 50%, AstraZenica never said anything. AZ have since come out and denied the claim is true.

I reported what I have read and heard, so someone else is wrong.
The fact that AZ denies the claim doesn't mean it's true. Just like anybody else they can say what they want.

depends if its at cost to us or not, if it is a result of the US hijacking the EUs supply it is not happy news for us in Ireland. if its a completely separate supply why not be happy for them

Sure but Irish Stones just made up the fact that AstraZenca announced it, they did not announce anything, it is an amportant distinction.
There's enough misinformation floating around without letting randomers make up the news.

Well, Atra Zeneca might not have announced it, but the truth is that there's a cut in the supply anyway. And ramping up in Q3 isn't the solution.

There could be issues this year I reckon but I'm 99.9% sure things will go back to normal with regard to travel, the only difference being vaccination certs and/or testing at airports

Do you mean these will be in place this year/next year only, or forever?

I'm sorry but you are talking nonsense. Please share the link where AstraZenca made the announcement yesterday. You can't because they never did.

The fact that you read one thing and then posted something else is a poor reflection on you.

It's OK, they've just invented a new Covid in California to combat this pesky new vaccine variant.

It would be fair enough to urge caution about the efficacy of vaccines if the science wasn't there. The really, really annoying thing about these feckers is that they continue to just blindly ignore actual science whilst anyone on social media pointing to that science and saying these guys are wrong is laughed at as an armchair virologist.

And presumably once the evidence is irrefutable in terms of hospitalisations/deaths they won't admit how wrong they were but just find something else to be wrong about.

The big question is are they effective against the new virus which nobody seems to have heard of other than our government??

I think FG are playing FF for fools in cabinet. "Oh yes taoiseach, new variants, we must be cautious, I agree with your statement". Then the very next morning Leo says the following

"if we vaccinate everyone over 60 and under 60 with chronic conditions, that's 98% of the job"

    AZ disputing that report now

... "As per this contract, approximately half of the expected volume is due to come from the EU supply chain, while the remainder would come from its international supply network. At this stage AstraZeneca is working to increase productivity in its EU supply chain and to continue to make use of its global capability in order to achieve delivery of 180 million doses to the EU in the second quarter."

Sounds like they're robbing Peter to pay back Paul, or is it now Paul to pay back Peter who they initially robbed.

More like robing the Pedros and Muhammeds of Africa and Latin America, to pay the Peters and Pauls of Europe

I see Lord Kilclooney (aka Unionist John Taylor) wants NI to help the Republic with its vaccination programme. I'd say this will make the Brit basher's heads melt.

I doubt Brian, if you or anyone else, is so naive as to believe that John's offer was made with genuine intentions.

True but the sooner the US is finished the sooner they will lift the export ban.

Does the vaccine reduce spread by the person who has had it and gets covid, or are they still as contagious?
