Honest to God this isn't the first time somebody has jumped to the conclusion that if one person disagrees with them = hostility. No wonder boards.ie gets such a bad rep.

If anyone knows what came up in property in march 2020 or had an up to date grid I would be so grateful!!

Some people are coming across very sensitive here.

Signing a petition over the fact that you may or may not fail, and might have to wait a few months for a resit in March is stupid. Good luck with 80 signatures on a ridiculous suggestion of delaying things further... I mean that's just great logic let's screw over everyone who's starting the hybrid and have the exams in the middle of flu season in November where the virus could potentially be worse. That's just the way the cookie crumbles, we're in a global pandemic and this sitting in August was not intended for people who did not have Tort and EU as their last exams. Some people have displayed such childish, I want, I want mentality. Sorry. If you failed, just suck it up you can submit a recheck or sit it again in March it's not worth postponing things until November over that

You might do well to remember that we could all potentially be colleagues in the future and this level of hostility is absolutely disgraceful.

You might do well to remember nobody is going to introduce themselves with their boards.ie
username. Pull the head out. If anyone's being hostile it's you.

WOW ok. I joined this thread because I found it very useful. This is not what we need in these stressful times. I hope we can all agree to leave the hostility here and from now on be helpful to each-other. Everyone is in a different position and if people cant respect that they shouldn't comment at all.

    What’s this petition about?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 134 ✭✭Lawlaw12

    I won’t be.

I checked it and think it has like 80 signatures

I've signed it, it's almost at 200 signatures now.

This was not an extra sitting for a lot of people and it is completely unfair that we will potentially lose out on the opportunity to repeat in October which would have been available if the Law Society had put the exams online in March, instead of delaying them 5 months on us.

Worth a shot to try and get them to take this into consideration

I'm not so sure about this "petition". Who created it? Is it valid? Or is it some Law Society psy-op to get the names of unruly students to blacklist later?

    I won't be signing either.

I have been studying for the October sitting for the last number of months and really think it is short sighted to delay the whole set of exams for a small number of people who may fail.

I think if you fail and are due to join the hybrid PPC you should be given the option to do it online later October/ November similar to the lockdown counties for the august sitting, giving you the opportunity to still be in the running.

This is all a Government plan to distract you from the fact that the boozers are still not open yet. They want us arguing, do not buy into it.

I agree and think that’s probably the fairest and there’d be a small enough number to correct so results should be back quite quickly.

I was due to sit tort in March and then sat in August. I’ve just already decided that if I fail I’ll just have to wait till next March which is fine for me because I’m not due to start the hybrid but for those people that are should definitely be allowed resit in November

    Where is this petition? Link?

    Cheers.

I signed it, more in the hope that the results will be out earlier, rather then delaying the exams, it's unprecedented times so probably won't make a difference but here's hoping!

Some training contracts require you to pass the exams in 3 sittings and if you don't your contract is rescinded. This is why you should consider signing it. If tort was on in March and someone failed they can re sit it in October with any other potential fails. But if they cant and October is their 3rd sitting, doing tort the following march would make it their 4th sitting and their contract is gone.

It is only fair to allow people to re sit the exam if failed in October as they would have been able to do if the exam was in March.

Is this actually true? Does it apply to the exams you've sat before receiving the TC offer?

Yes it is true, I am in this boat! I was only informed after accepting but seems pretty set in stone!

I am not sure tbh. I don't have any clauses in my contract re. passing the exams in a certain amount of sittings.

But my friends have specific clauses in their contracts requiring no more than 3 sittings to pass.

So it depends on the firm.

So if you've already had one or two sittings before receiving your TC, that means you only have one more siting to pass the FE-1's??? Should it not be based on the actual starting date of your TC?

Check your contract. If there is a clause in it then it applies to you, if you dont have any such clauses then I wouldn't worry about it.

My firm just doesn't want me to post pone my start date so if I postpone more than once due to a failed exam then my contract is rescinded. This isn't in my contract - I have just heard this from word of mouth from the graduate recruiter.

Yup that's spot on! I wish it was based on the actual starting date..

All depends on the firm, nothing to worry about you'll be fully informed of the situation once you sign your contract

If this rule applies retrospectively why don't any of the big firms specify in their TC applications how many FE-1 sittings you've had? If the limit is 3 and its set in stone, surely they would.

I unfortunately do not have a training contract so was not thinking of that- it would be extremely unfair to those affected. Also if the firm takes away your training contract in a situation like this I wouldn’t really want to work for them anyway. There should be some leniency due to the current situation

I agree it’s unfair but I Just don’t know if I agree with exams for everyone being pushed back.

Yeah, thats completely fair not wanting exams being pushed back. Personally, I wouldn't want that either. I signed in the hopes they release results earlier and then also for those I know would lose their contracts if they happen to have failed in the August sitting.

Its up to everyone individually obviously whether to sign or not! For my sake, I would like the option to sit in October if I failed but I can sit in March so it is not the end of the world scenario for me. But it would be lovely to get these exams over with as soon as I can!

Also just hoping I didn't fail in August haha

I'm still in college and doing a few subjects at a time but I think I'll stop now if it's going to harm me in the long-term because I'll have too many sittings done even though I haven't failed any.

I imagine that the requirement for the FE1s to be passed in three sittings means three sittings from the time you sign the contract.
