I'm still in college and doing a few subjects at a time but I think I'll stop now if it's going to harm me in the long-term because I'll have too many sittings done even though I haven't failed any.

I really doubt this will affect current college students. I'm going into final year and I plan on sitting two FE1s in October.

In response to Hiya's post, I understand some of you may have studied, myself included. You have to think about everyone and not just yourselves. It's not fair on those who have no answer on tort to have to wait like that and then to have the exam right after. Additionally it's not fair on those who do not live in Dublin or Cork and have to make arrangements coming from down the country.

It's the fairest thing to have every option for each student. If you have seen its about half who want the exams going forward and half who don't.

The amount of childish fighting on this site is ridiculous. Cop yourselves and let's work together to make these exams fair for everyone.

The fairest solution in my opinion is the third one proposed in the petition.

Additional sittings should be made available in November 2020 for candidates who have failed an exam in the August 2020 sitting, if results are to be released on 28th September. This would be in addition to the October '20 sitting proceeding as scheduled.

I don't think it's necessary to change the current timetable for the October session. There are probably candidates who have already scheduled annual leave and/or booked accommodation/transport since the Law Society have officially announced the dates.

I imagine that the requirement for the FE1s to be passed in three sittings means three sittings from the time you sign the contract.

Not for my firm anyway, I'd sat two sitting before signing and now have one sitting to pass the remaining or my TC is rescinded.

That's really strange. I imagine they will have to alter that condition since there is no longer the requirement of passing 3 FE1s in the first sitting.

I was planning on preparing two subjects at a time for the next four sittings.

Yeah, so I really need this October sitting to pass Contract and Constitutional!

    Agreed.
At the end of the day we all sitting these exams in different circumstances. For people who sat their first exams in August, or people who are still in college sitting a few FE1's this will not be a big deal as they may be planning on doing the March 2021 sitting anyway.

However, there are also those of us who are being seriously disadvantaged by the LSI's decision. People who had registered to sit Tort and EU in March were not given this as an 'additional sitting' we were actually delayed 5 months on our FE1 process.

As stated above some people have to pass within 3 sittings or have a deadline in their contract for passing, and if their second sitting was March 2020 and third is October, they are not being afforded the opportunity to repeat Tort/EU from their second sitting, an opportunity they would have had if the exams had gone ahead in March or if the LSI had actually managed to reorganise them without letting 5 months pass.

I completely understand that there are people who sat in August that will be planning on sitting exams in March anyway... but please bear in mind that for many of us the March sitting is not an option and that is why we are seeking an option to repeat just Tort and EU in November if we did not pass in August

Guys, just to give another perspective, and I would not be the Law Doc's biggest fan by any measure, but the Law Soc has more than just the FE1s to deal with. PPC2 students are still waiting on the results that define whether they can qualify since the exams in June for example!

You need to be realistic, it's highly unlikely that another sitting will be organised or that they'll bring forward the results date. A new sitting would involve booking everywhere again, having new papers drafted, getting together examiners and invigilators, etc. They can barely do it when they are meant to, I wouldn't be expecting them to do more, especially in a pandemic!

On the "3 sittings" rule - my firm had that and there was no issue when I ended up taking 6! If you give them a reasonable explanation, such as the Law Society's failure, you are unlikely to be punished for it, particularly if you aren't starting BH until next year and have plenty of time to finish the exams. I have only heard of one person actually losing their contract on that rule and, based on what I've heard, there was a lot more behind that.

When it comes to the Law Soc, I always advise managing your expectations!

Good luck with the exams! If I can get through them, anyone can!

Check your contract. If there is a clause in it then it applies to you, if you dont have any such clauses then I wouldn't worry about it.

My firm just doesn't want me to post pone my start date so if I postpone more than once due to a failed exam then my contract is rescinded. This isn't in my contract - I have just heard this from word of mouth from the graduate recruiter.

Generally do most training contracts have these clauses?

Still struggling to see the purpose behind it. If you're due to start in 2023, for instance, why would it not be based on the date rather than a specific amount of sittings that applies before you got the offer anyways?

For starters, I don't understand the Law Society's hardline view against online exams. But if they are so hellbent on in person sittings , why not have more regional venues?Add in Limerick, Waterford, Galway , Sligo, Athlone and Dundalk as centres. Much better than dragging over 1,000 students to Dublin/Cork for two weeks during the present time.Pretty much everyone would then be within commuting distance.University of London and Open University manage to organise regional centres for their exams in Ireland. So can the Law Society.

    Yep!
Land and Conveyancing Law Reform Act 2009, AND the Succession Act, 1965.
    Can get both from OPW

    Hi guys,

Has anyone who passed their final exams this week and is beginning Blackhall next week received confirmation that they are registered?

I am due to start next week and haven’t got confirmation and my student ID is also not listed on the core group timetable. Wondering if people are in the situation also
