They don't need the school and working population to shut down, they need them to behave responsibly.

Did you listen to him. He can go for walks in countryside for hours without seeing anyone. Why would he be told how long he can go out for a walk?

The Govt don't have a clue what they are doing, not one clue. From 1 shambolic decision to the next.

But sure can’t he just continue on doing that? Makes sense to me. That’s the personal responsibility I’m talking about

The death rate is 0% for kids of school going age. When schools open, people who are still WFH and are out for their daily walks. Maybe they didn't go on a sun holiday in August and have not had a good blowout on a night out for months or whatever too. They will see schoolkids in big groups at bus stops, messing and playing etc and these adults will think "why am I not allowed to go out and live my life?". The data won't show that covid is a problem, for obvious reasons, which will further reinforce that adult's view that they do not feel they should have to Continue to make such big sacrifices while others do not have to do the same. More people then stop taking the guidance so seriously which snowballs and very soon there are some lip service behaviours like masks in shops or half hearted social distancing in queues but people have generally gotten back to normal.

The beginning of schools returning is the end of strict restrictions.

But the government will surely be desperate to avoid a emperor has no clothes perception if your scenario above pans out.

If immunity is far higher than NPHET believe it to be then they'll have to sell the public on the idea that the pandemic was managed as well as possible, the risk was consistently assessed appropriately and that the virus is still as deadly now as it was in March.

Did FF agree not to investigate covid nursing home fiasco as part of the coalition agreement?

If your prediction turns out to be right we'll see a lot of political manoeuvring in an attempt to shift responsibility.

The issue is that personal responsibility is a dirty word in an environment of blame/compo culture and following the herd.

Personally I think everyone should be looking after their own safety in line with their own personal circumstances/medical status (alongside general guidelines like social distancing and good hygiene) and stop worrying about what someone else is/isn't doing.

The vast majority are not significantly affected by CV-19 if they get it. Those who are at greater risk need to start looking after themselves and stop blaming others.

This illness is only dangerous in nursing home settings.

    That statement is completely disingenuous.

Reading the posts on here it's amazing how many posters are ignorant of the correlation between a public health crisis and the health of the economy. If COVID-19 spreads excessively in Ireland, consumer confidence will crumble and economy will tank. Conversely an over conservative approach will stifle economy activity. Hence why this is a balancing act, our best option is the current half way house, allow low risk activities and keep those economic sectors moving, prioritise education and subsidise the sectors that remain closed for as long as financially viable. I've yet to read a coherent plan for the 'zero COVID' and 'Open up to f**k' approaches put forward by the diametrically opposed schools of thought on boards.

Wonder will this be similar to Stage 1 - Elderly and medically vulnerable. We were down about 12 staff back then - all back to work now though.

Well here it is in black and white. Lockdown was a costly waste of time. Vulnerable people should have been isolated and everything else should have continued as normal.

How? I mean, how would that work in practice? Have you seen the list of vulnerable people? It's not just the over 70s.

The number of those receiving the PUP is down by 54% since it peaked at the beginning of May so you could argue that the country is only half open.
I've been dropping someone to work at the airport lately and it is shocking to see it like a ghost town at the height of the tourist season.
The footfall in the Grafton Street area is only 20% of normal. I could go on.
    Everything open?

Wanting to follow other EU countries in how they are handling it is what we would like. For example, the illogical approach with the green list, not opening pubs and requiring social distancing on public transport despite masks being mandatory with no plan b for the next 2 weeks when thousands more people return to buses and trains.

    Well what’s your proposal?

Do we all hide at home for a couple of years to protect one section of society?

Carry on with the same approach indefinitely?

I’ll be interested in your answers because it’s time for something to change.

Theres 21 people hospitalised with this virus out of a population of 5 million.

99% of people recover and not interested in listening to the long term effects quotes that’s all hear say.

It’s time for people to wake up and move on.

We need to really crack down on factories that are causing the spread of the virus. Random inspections, temperature checks, random tests, closures etc.

We have to start opening up while there is still a country left to be salvaged.

Start opening up by closing down factories? Sounds logical.

You close down a factory or two if it is necessary.

Not close the half the pubs in the country because of a few clusters in meat factories.

Ah, the old, "answer a question, with a question," tactic.

Do we all hide at home for a couple of years to protect one section of society?

Who's hiding at home? Lockdown is pretty much over.

Carry on with the same approach indefinitely?

It's being continually tweaked as we move through this. Just as it should be.

You're not interested in listening to the long term effects of Covid in some people who haven't fully recovered because it doesn't suit your narrative so you pretend that it's all made up...okay.

It’s time for people to wake up and move on.

They're not closing half the pubs because of a few clusters in meat factories. You can keep telling yourself that. It doesn't make it true though.

It is hilarious that people are still trying to suggest that the country is not locked down!!!

We have 3 counties in lockdown!!!
We still have thousands receiving the Covid payments
Schools have not been open for close to half a year. (Plans could have been made for a summer return)
Wet Pubs and almost the entire entertainment industry are closed
The airport is a ghost town
Footfall in shopping centres is down across the board
Restaurants are nowhere near to capacity and have curfews etc
Don't even ask about Cinema's... Is anyone bothered to go and sit wearing a mask for 2+ hours? Not for me anyways.

It is like road safety, of course I take care of my own safety but I am still endangered if you are acting recklessly. The fact that you feel safe because you are in a SUV or lorry doesn't excuse you from driving safely.

Even if Covid 19 had been completely eliminated from the country the schools were never going to reopen before the usual dates. If you believe otherwise you are completely wrong. I have no issues with masks and normally spend several hours each day continually wearing them.

Summer provision still happened in schools also.
