This virus is a nothing to the vast, vast majority and it’s about time we got on with our lives.

I hope neither you or anyone close to you gets it. If they do, you'll see its not nothing. Its a dangerous, easily transmitted virus with no cure.

I have seen masks used more as neck warmers than anything else, was like the gloves thing thinking they were magic hands!

It's proven that you are 4 times more likely to catch the virus at 1m than 2m. It's safer to stick to the two metre rule. 1m is normality. If someone was closer than a metre to me, they'd be invading my personal space. Things haven't returned to normal yet.

I’ve got a better idea. If you keep 2km away from everyone and behind a concrete wall, transmission is 0%. Of course transmission is greater at 2m than at 4! That’s like saying water is wet! Lucky for 99.9999% of people it doesn’t matter if you come within 2cm, never mind 2m. You probably won’t get sick and if you do, it will be nothing. People who have exceeded average life expectancy should perhaps be more careful. The rest of us? Time to move on now.

My point is in ‘normal times’ you’d never get that close to a person anyway. Even sitting at a bar, you’re probably 1m apart. The virus is burning out so the 29th of June is the right time to open everything up

It is nothing, at least in comparison to most other communicable diseases. The numbers bear this out.

Of course not but if they do pass it on, those people, if they even get the symptoms, would also send-isolate before returning to society two weeks later like the people who infected them. A very simple no fuss solution which should have been the way from the start.

Unless of course the one they pass it on to is vulnerable , immuno suppressed

Well part of that system entails such people staying inside. 99.9999% of us aren’t at risk so time to drop the masks and the Perspex glass and get on with life sans chalk markings.

I really can't see how the 2m can be maintained in public transport, even starting from Monday. . .

Because people are sheep and unnecessarily scared. Our lives will change forever via needless face muzzles, large imaginary personal boundaries, clothes shops quarantining trousers, air travel being so inconvenient as to be barely worth the trouble, and many other ways.

Actually it does not entail anyone staying inside . You think its ok for people to gather in crowds in a pandemic then you might need to educate yourself

I’m educated to a good level. It’s why I can think critically and question this farce. Most are totally incapable of doing that.

Thread has gone quiet. Rightfully so, only things we wish to open up quicker are cinemas, pubs and hairdressers and gyms.

You know, if 3/4 open then amount of house parties will reduce significantly.

PS another protest making a mockery of "law abiding citizens". One thing is for sure, gardai are wet blankets just like Paschal.

Ps get rid of that stupid 2metre rule applying wat feels like in Ireland only.

All us anti lockdowners ever wanted is a return to some semblance of normality and the state to just leave us the hell alone. I had a lovely drive up the mountains and a nice coffee. Little things and freedoms like that are all we want and not to be hassled by busybody Gardai and assorted curtain twitchers.
2 M thing will go now too, this week will put massive pressure on public transport- if we have to wear masks to get over that one then I’m not really bothered..
My gym is back this week too, outdoor classes. Live in Kilkenny so should be fine weather wise, its one of the driest places in the country!

I’m not wearing a mask! The amount of people I’ve seen wear them and not use them properly is at about 90%. I just don’t see the point. One lady I saw was constantly pulling it up and down from her face with her bare hands. This is what I see everyday. Masks need to be up to the individual and nobody else.

Most people I see wearing them seem to be driving cars. Unless transporting hospital patients then this is insane and indeed unhygienic

Theres a poster here who wanted single digits in new cases prior to quickly lifting restrictions. He didnt get his wish yesterday now but with 24 new cases today the trend is definitely going in his favour.

24 new cases. Barbers shut till 20th July, 6 weeks away. 1.5 months. Wat is this I dont even know

What numbers would they be? The 100,000 dead in US, the 40,000 dead in UK or the 1600 dead here?

Guaranteed when we get to zero cases then it’ll be “let’s have two months of zero cases, it’s just too risky...second wave etc....” you’ll never please these types - best thing is move on without them because you’ll never get them onboard with anything sensible or pragmatic. That’s why Friday was a good day for us, it effectively moved things forward without them

Yes those exact numbers and if you want to dramatise it even more, why not add Italy and Spain to it? Now you’ve shown you are a bit of a mathematician so I want you to take those absolute figures of death you cited and express them as a percentage of the total populations of those countries, Italy and Spain included. Throw in the non lockdown countries of Sweden and Belarus too and why not the states that didn’t shut down in America too. Then compare those numbers to death rates due to flu and also work out the percentage of the population under the age of 82 that have died from the virus. If you can do all that and come back to me with an intelligent overview of the figures, I might listen to you. If you can’t, happy hiding, your lockdown continues.

I saw a guy stopped at the lights the other day wearing one. He was smoking in the car and slipping his mask down every few seconds to take a drag

Are people still wondering about people wearing face masks driving :confused:.
Well the whole point of them is to put them on after you wash your hands.

Your car could be contaminated from your hands, after shopping your hands could have the virus and shouldn't be touching your face.

You might have to stop at a pharmacy, petrol station, hardware store, grocery shopping.

Do you want people to take off the mask in the car touching their face in the process and putting on the mask again possibly contaminating the mask at every location you go to?

Use your brain people. Once the mask is on you should not be taking off and putting in on again whether driving or whatever.

Do people not have common sense why people leave the mask on while driving?

I'm not a mask advocate, but I fully agree with you. If people are going to wear masks don't shame them for doing it right, because there's enough people going around with them on arseways.

No offence but that sounds like paranoia.

PS im worried that you think covid lives on surfaces forever, let me assure you it does not.

Like any virus it will live on surfaces for a time.

If you're wearing a mask, try not to touch it. Potentially you're transferring virus to the mask and your face - your mask also potentially has virus on it, so if you're taking it off at home you should be trying to minimise touch & washing your hands afterwards.
