I’d say they have plans in place since March on how they’ll operate and layout their stores with the new guidelines in place, but it’s just a case of rostering all their staff and having the manpower to remove all the old stock/mark down the prices, put out the new summer stock, and reorganising the whole layout of the shop.
Some staff still won’t be able to come back to work due to lack of childcare so that might be why there’s rostering issues as well.

I passed the Penney’s in Cork on Wednesday and looked in the window and they still had massive displays of gift ideas for Mother’s Day in there, Mother’s Day was mid March wasn’t it? Carrig Donn had Easter baskets in their window display too.
It’s crazy to think that they’ve been shut all that time.

So I think they just need a few days to get organised, two days notice especially for a large store just isn’t enough to get all that done and train their staff in the new procedures.

Yeah the Tiger shop in Nutgrove still has Easter chocolate in the window

Yes and Penneys are doing just that. Staff training , increasing aisle space , employing temporary staff to deal with rush. Nothing to do with Covid payment. A lot of staff permanent , longterm and unionised .

Does a toasted ham and cheese qualify as a meal?

Apparently not.Was chatting to mate who has a pub that do a full range of toasties. They are not eligible to open on the 29th,don't have the required restaurant license.

In reality if they did open I dont think anybody would be calling around to shut them down.

Except the guards of course. They're pretty sore on pubs all year round. This would be no different.

I can't see the gards coming into this pub and trying to figure out what class of license they have to serve food. As I mentioned this place is well known for sambos and rolls, half the town goes there for lunch, they have some sort of license to serve food.I was wondering about this earlier and happened to bump into the owner. He said they didn't have the requisite food license to open on the 29th (I don't know the exact details) he said something about not having an oven aswell.

I see there are a few pro lockdown and pro never ending roadmap posters on here throwing their toys out of the pram today...I'm actually so delighted to hear of retail shops reopening Monday, hope we all support local & help get our economy up and running.
P.S. I predict there won't be a spike from protests today, shock horror! Where is George Lee when we need him to stoke up the flames of fear and hysteria!!

    Will you give over ?

Now now, stop throwing your toys out of the pram. :D

I think that fits the definition, although (unsurprisingly) no examples were provided...

If he did open, he might find that there'd be complaints from his fellow publicans who wouldn't be opening till July - the gardaí or HSE might pay a visit then...

That's hilarious. That's like saying you and all the anti-lockdowners have been throwing your toys out of the pram for weeks and weeks up until yesterday. That's not true either.

Give over what? Giving my opinion? Sorry to inconvenience you but no,I won't.
Where did I say I don't obey rules?? And who are these "ordinary folk"?

People like you really confirm my point that some people will not reason or debate, just make a blanket attack on posters who express views that don't suit them, posters who dare to use their own critical reasoning.

This is a classic trait of the type of person who abides religiously to regulations in general, no matter how absurd. This type of person told teacher on you in the playground, or, in roles of law enforcement, would fine a granny for jay walking. These days, they rat to the guards because you took the dog for a second walk or shame you for not worshipping the “angels” on the so called “frontline”. They tow the line of orthodoxy in a public fashion, usually via Facebook, because that wins them social capital for having all the right opinions and being a good person. In a word, they are sheep.

Possibly but I don't think so.As I said half the town goes here for their lunch,it's as well known for that as pints but they only do sambos and rolls. If the owner had told me today they will open because they serve food I would have thought yeah that makes sense.

They don't need a restaurant licence, Varadkar said it yesterday.

Just on a side point, I see a few people joking about ordering 20 pints and a toasted sandwich on the side.

Pubs are relatively high risk for virus spread. The vitner lobby are very powerful in this country, but even they were overwhelmed by public opinion in the weekend before the 17th March. If we see pubs start to take the p**s, and if we see an outbreak as a consequence, public opinion could change very quickly.

When are restaurants/cafes opening up? What are the chances of getting a table outside when they do open up.

Do not criticise any posters just because they follow the relevant laws and guidelines

The fact you and/or others may ignore them is irrelevant

What do you think you are doing in your posts?
Give over calling anyone who doesn't agree with you, unable of either critical thinking or afraid.
Did you not say your superior intellect would allow you to make the decision as to whether you would go with what was asked by the government ,or the dictators, as you put it ?

In fact this poster ranting does not offend me , as I can't take anything seriously from someone who compares this virus with the flu !

Understood it was those who could provide table service, more for social distancing than food.
Shame really but the smaller cost social pubs will not be reopening any time soon .
I can think of at least one favourite that has said it will be staying closed .

Have you no other vocabulary than "give over"? What does that even mean? Does it mean shut up? If so, charming!

Also, kindly stop twisting my words. I never said that people who don't agree with me are incapable of critical thinking or are afraid. I said that there are many people out there incapable of critical thinking and afraid.

And I never said that my "superior intellect" would have me veering between any two sets of people. In fact I wasn't talking about myself at all. I was expressing my view at the categories of people in society, especially Irish society. By all means, disagree! I like people who disagree and who can debate a topic. But to use your own vocabulary, "give over" the personal remarks! They add nothing to your point, whatever your actual point may be.

Going back to the shops, will the inability to have changing rooms not affect clothing shops a lot? Otherwise it's little different to shopping online. There's an understandably good reason behind it but it certainly reduces the advantage of buying in the store.

And I wonder how it will apply to shoe stores - I certainly would want to try on a pair of shoes before buying as I find they vary hugely in comfort, even within a brand. But again could be tricky.
