Japan. They have a national debt of 240% of GDP. Ours is 68%, Germany 64% and the UK 88%.

And what’s the welfare bonus in those states? In the U.K. I believe it’s £10.
Still doesn’t change the fact we have a massive debt and blowing even more cash on ungrateful spongers ain’t going to help

Get out of here with your facts, this thread is for bashing the vulnerable.

And Who are the “vulnerable”, exactly? Vulnerable me arse, mustvbe the most overused term used to protect the freeloading sector of society.
The only vulnerable ones in this state are the low paid in zero hour contracts barely affording their private rented accommodation.

I don't begrudge the genuine social welfare recipients a bonus at Christmas time, I'd imagine it is quite a relief. However, I'd sure love a bonus myself. I haven't had a bonus in 4 years. I work in the HSE, on terrible pay that certainly doesn't match my workload nor the abuse I get from the public. It's a thankless job so even an extra €50 at Christmas would be quite nice.

Tis easy tell the bollixes on here with the constant dole envy/hatred have never had to survive on it, or look forward to Christmas stuck on it with a family. FOAD ye miserable cnuts in fairness like.

If that's the case then make it a universal family bonus. For all families.

Is it still the case that people on jobseekers benefit aren't eligible? Some joke that people who have worked and built up PRSI contributions to qualify for jobseekers benefit don't get any bonus but people on jobseekers allowance do.

Have often been told "you're lucky you've been in work for 30 years".

Was it Gary Player who said "the harder I work, the luckier I seem to get" ?

Graft my friends, it's the only way.

What is this job that had you grafting so hard?

Then you will have a larger exploitation of carers and disability payments making it much more difficult for genuine people to qualify with additional checks and larger waiting periods

It's already happening. The amount of young people on disability is staggering. I agree that some disabilities are not obvious, but a huge percentage of what I see in the post office are scammers. Disability is never questioned once gained and entitles you to the medical card and ftp. Don't know the stroke they pulled, but it suits the government to get people off the live register.

There's a man in my local village on disability, he walks with a limp, I don't know how that renders him useless for work as plenty jobs don't involve walking. He keeps dogs and walks them a lot  I passed him on a number of occasions and his limp gets worse when he sees a car approaching.

Restoring it is a baaaaaad move.

Totally counter to the model off social welfare we need to move to, where the payment is index linked to the to both unemployment rate, and, to a lesser extent to the average wage of the lowest decile.

At the moment, unemployment is low. Jobs are available. Social welfare should be decreased to incentivise the transition from unemployment to employment and increase the supply.
Similarly, adjust it also with a weak link to average entry wage, to maintain a valid employment incentivising gap.

Obviously not official confirmation, but I expect it to be fairly accurate. A worker on 50,000 will be getting back less a week than a dole lifer!

And in relation to Japan. They have a world class economy and infrastructure, it’s not far from 2019 and we still have boil notices, raw sewage going straight into the ocean. **** infrastructure, people waiting days on trolleys. Insane national debt. I don’t need to continue, the rest of you live in this country. You know the score... lol when it goes tits up again! LOL!

You have to consider the requirements of employers. The way that some people are being described here by their neighbours, no employer would touch them with a barge pole. Economists say that 4% to 6% unemployment rate is effectively full employment.

From becoming eligible for the dole at 18, to age 24 the payment is €107.70. That is already a good motivation for those who can work to get a job.

I never ever ever understood why on earth you would shoplift from Penny's. The charge is theft, doesn't matter if it's there or Brown Thomas, if your going to do it at least steal something worth while, not 300€s worth of ****e from Penny's FFS.

Oh, and it worked out that she'd be on 100 or so grand a year if she worked, and this pleb is out stealing, what a ****ing parasite. She'd win the Euromillions jackpot and still claim from the state and still ****ing rob. Utter toe rag and the definition the type of person I cannot stand. The worst thing is, there is an army of people just like her, doing the exact same.

Jesus could you imagine. We can't even build a data centre in the middle of nowhere. A nuclear station would shut down the country with the protests.

You'd want a van to carry out €300 worth of Penney's gear.
