If I was to sum up FG in one word.

    Tax.

All they have ever done is come up with taxes or increase tax, never ever ever have they come up with a real solution to anything. Every solution is a tax, along with a missed opportunity.

Example, sugar tax on soft drinks, ridiculous, under the health banner again. The missed opportunity, it was a great time to start up a refund scheme for people to bring back there empty cans/empty bottles for 5c or so.

The budgets they operate are missed opportunities, put these stupid 5er increases and 1.50€ us workers are getting back into the system into services that need them and are crying out for them.

Thats because deadbeats are the new Elites! Basically the whole system seems to be geared for the welfare class. Free houses and extra money for every kid you can fire out. Imagine if for once they looked after those who pay paye/income tax etc. and said we all get a 100 Euro tax rebate at Christmas.

How many will also head to SVP? because they aren't able to budget for things they will obviously need, e.g. food, xmas presents for the childers

A quick true story about svdp.
I was in company of someone who worked at the time for them.
    His mobile rings .
    Traveller calling .
Previous week they had paid his car insurance so he could bring his sick child to hospital .
Calling again , not to thank them , but to ask for another handout.
If the public knew what is going on with these charities there would be no donations.

Why not change the law/culture similar to what happens in Netherlands/Germany/Scandinavia where there are 13/14 salary payments a year, extra payment in December and in some cases July/August(Netherlands). This is mandatory as far as I know and onus on the employer to comply. Would ease the burden on everyone at 2 peak periods of the year. Imagine the whinging from hoteliers, retailers etc if this came into effect though...

I don't understand folks who can choose to live years on end on handouts. It's not astronomical amounts, don't they want nice things in life? To be able to treat themselves to a holiday or even a nice dinner out? How do they live their lives?

I know people on long-term welfare + nixers.

    They drive an Audi Q5.

Easy to do well on welfare. Woman I know with 4 kids and hap paying her rent, Child benefits and lone parents. Split up from the father so he is giving her a few quid every week. Also minds 3-4 kids bringing them to school and then minding them until their parents finish work so a few quid there aswell untaxed. Two week sun holiday every year, gym and sky. Also goes out most Saturday night aswell. More disposable income than someone with a well paid job, no debts and plenty of free time when kids are in school.

You know a lot about her life. Enough to report her for fraud, for breaking the lone parents rules, and working in the black economy. You can do that anonymously.

They can't because of their hard work ethics or something.

It's weird how the protestant work ethic has caught on so much in Ireland.

That does it. I've read After Hours, so I know where the real money in Irish society is now. I can't believe how stupid I've been for all these decades of educational achievement, cultural appreciation, private health insurance and all the works when I could have got everything for free.

I'm definitely giving up my job and its 60% marginal tax rate to sign on. I'm also going to redesignate myself as an ethic Traveller and I'm going to declare my gender identity as a woman. I'll also go on the official homeless register and ring up Joe Duffy with a massive béal bocht on me and I'll have a penthouse apartment in the docklands by the end of the week.

It’s obvious to anyone that knows her this is what she is doing. I dont think welfare will do anything about it and that’s speaking from experience on another case I know. If I was doing it I would be doing my best to bring no attention to myself but these welfare fraudsters don’t care they know it’s difficult to prove. Welfare officer calls and asks a few questions and they just tell them a load of lies. To see what’s going on you’d have to do some surveillance and that’s something welfare don’t do for small cases.

    Snitches get stitches

    snitches get stitches

An phrase used by urban communities that was intended to keep the police out of neighborhood business. The phrase reminds those seeking the help of police that their tattling will result in a severe beating. Unfortunately, This phrase has become a large reason why urban communities remain riddled with violence and poverty.

A: "I'm going to call the police, my brother. I just saw so-and-so kill David."
B: "You really shouldn't, my Nubian friend. After all, snitches get stitches."
A: "You are correct. I'll adhere to that maxim and let this sort of activity go unreported and unpunished."

You forgot about the children, you're at nothing without a few children. Preferably a boy and a girl so you will get a room each for them

Far from it but if I ever need it that’s fine because I’ve paid plenty of tax and prsi over the years.

    swings and roundabouts

the productive will always be taxed to fund the unproductive..............and somehow Denis O`Brien will be to blame :D

As someone who pays a significant amount of tax I'm happy to hear this news that there is a bonus. This world is ****ing miserable enough as it is. Many are just barely surviving, living day to day. Ok yes a small amount of people are perhaps taking the piss, but generally most are not.

Like many of us earning a good living and living very comfortably...We're just ****ing lucky that we were born into families and an environment that could afford us opportunities to succeed in life. Many are not this lucky.

All the more reason to report that fraudster. You have very detailed information to make a strong case. And as it is anonymous, you have nothing to lose.

I'm half-expecting one of the martyrs to claim that they worked hard to be born into an environment that gave them the wherewithal to succeed, and that it was in no way a stroke of luck.

Insane national debt. Morons at the helm repeating the same mistakes and Ireland’s Economic faith largely dependent on factors outside of our control! What could possibly go wrong ...

this time it will be an even bigger farce when it goes tits up , given that those morons in power have seemingly learned nothing , despite what they say! Maybe we can keep the troika next time!

What really intrigues me about threads like this is the level of moaning by some. Honestly if the dole is so great why isn't the unemployment rate higher. Like it's painted as a wonderful life. Seems strange anyone would choose work. 2.2 million people, myself included must be awful idiots .

Because someone has to pay for the whole farce !

This included with the extra fiver a week in handouts will surely gobble up a huge proportion of any fiscal space the exchequer would have.
The concept of a state (that owes 200 billion) barely threading water with public spending handing a bonus to those that don’t contribute (excluding carers) is certifiable lunacy. Is there a nation on the planet that does this kind of wreckless spending?

Japan. They have a national debt of 240% of GDP. Ours is 68%, Germany 64% and the UK 88%.
