only started listening to a couple of players chair...if Richie could cut out bringing it back to himself it would be lot better ....Eoin would make a far better job of it.

You really don't enjoy anyone criticising your beloved lads.

It's almost as if everyone has a different opinion.

I don't think anyone has a problem with constructive criticism or taking the piss out of the odd podcast that they didn't like. I'm not a GAA fan, but I accept lots of people are and I expect lots of pods I'll have no interest in will come out at this time of year. I think sneering replies to people and constant moaning about literally everything just. But you wouldn't do that, would you? Lets see your last 10 posts in this thread:

Why would they bother with extra work.

I don't blame them, but it's quite obvious they're coasting.

It's more of a gossip podcast.

Not sure if sneering at a twitter monologue is considered cutting edge independent journalism.

All live podcasts sound terrible on podcast.

Shame but I'm not sure they're worth the hassle of going to. I've been to a few (not sc) and it was a good excuse for a few pints but that's about it.

Explains how he failed so completely at managing. His excuses were just laughable, and well rehearsed.

****e interview, listened after seeing so much praise here. I only have myself to blame.

Gary could have taken a dump on stage and he'd probably have got a cheer from the cackling crowd.

Oh dear. A little ray of sunshine, aren't we? Go on, call me a "fanboy". Even though you can check my post history, Idon't like a lot of episodes, but give credit to where credit is due. The irony is, you love to criticise the podcast constantly. But if anyone criticises your posts and disagree with something you say it's you resort to name calling or insults, they're a "fanboy".

It's a discussion board about the pod, no one will ever be 100% happy with every episode and there's gonna be criticism. We all do it. Some people don't like us murph, some people don't like gaa, some people don't like rugby, some don't like golf etc, kens Jose obsession, it's the nature of a pod that covers sport. Personally I don't like some players chair, most live episodes, lot of the rugby, all the gaa. But I pay to listen because I like 90% of it. If every post you make in 3 months is moaning about the pod, how the lads are useless and if anyone dares argue with you are accuse them of being a fanboy, you really got to question why you pay money to subscribe. And even worse, why you waste so much time listening.

Hey im right there with you bud. If i dont like something i dont have any control over, i dont partake / listen / worry about it enough to want to complain about it.

I echo your sentiments on what i do and dont like about the pod. Kens Mou thing annoys me a little more than average as well, but the lads put out good stuff for the most part.

I think he's backed off the Mourinho stuff somewhat..

He could have dedicated an entire episode to Mourinho's ramblings after the loss to Spurs.

I was getting a bit tired of the Mourinho stuff, but I was hoping there would be some after the spurs game. Right after a united loss, it's warranted.

I agree and i agree. Its a weird love/hate thing with the Mou complaining.

When SC is good there isn’t a pod out there to rival it...and it’s good a lot of the time. It’s worth a fiver a month for the soccer pods and players chair. I hate the GAA pods, US Murph is plain terrible. I don’t even care much for Irish Murph but ken is worth my fiver even if I don’t always agree with him. My biggest gripe is seeing a new pod and then realizing it’s yet ANOTHER GAA one.

They have to cater to all the major sports though. I didn't think there were enough hurling podcasts considering how brilliant the hurling season was

Brian carney’s ma died while he was in his teens. Richie’s going to mine that gold.

Should it be renamed from the players chair to Richie Sads stories as in sob stories?

I don't skip over any of the sports, I have atleast a passing interest in everything they cover. But there's been a disproportionate amount of coverage of the all Ireland football final, compared to other events.

I do wonder, do they struggle to find decent hurling analysts? They bring in Michael Duignan who is just bland and full of clichés and contradicts himself every five minutes. Eoin Kelly is forgettable and they can only ever seem to get him over the phone, which is never as good. Malachy Clerkin is probably the best of the bunch. They do lack some decent pundits in that regard. Oisin McConville could sit and talk about gaelic football all day if he could, Mike Quirke is very knowledgeable and interesting to listen to aswell.

Totally agree, would love fresh hurling pundits with real insight to offer, but I'm hard-pressed to think who might fit that bill. SC aren't the only ones saddled with cliche merchants.

A sick and twisted part of my mind just suggested Babs...

I reckon he's one of the OTB lads.

On a separate not, I find the Brian Carney interview very interesting. Wouldn't be a fan of RL at all, but still enjoyed listening to his views on his career and how he approached it

The Brian Carney interview was ok. Did Richie probe how a lad from Dublin got into rugby league though ? Maybe it slips my mind. Thats surely an interesting angle.

Decided to cancel mine and put the money towards Eleven Sports.

All things being equal I would probably listen to the lads over most other pods, but I usually listen to pods at night by which point the likes of The Off The Ball football pod and one or two other free pods are more up to date. Just seemed pointless continuing to pay for it.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 35,024 ✭✭✭✭Baggly

I'm taking a break for a month and will catch up on whatever is worth catching up on, in October.

Yeah problem with listening to off the ball is that you have to listen to off the ball

The football show is excellent. They have a tonne of filler I mean they’re on the air for 20 odd hours a week and it’s FREE. I’m no fanboi either way but the level of hatred here for OTB is hilarious.

Yeah, I enjoy it and it's current. As in you're getting reaction to things that have just happened. Whatever suits I suppose. And this suits me. If I was a 9 to 5 person then Second Captains is what I would be listening to driving home. But driving home at midnight from work I would rather listen to something that's more up to date. Sometimes I stick on the Guardian, Totally Football or the BBC football pod for a change.

I don't think the bantz level is too bad either. Second Captains are also capable of it to from time to time, even though they're trying hard to do it in a more highbrow fashion.

What I really dislike about off the ball is this recent thing of having segments previewing matches which is basically a 30 minute ad for a betting company giving the latest odds etc. Not into that at all at all.

My problem with OTB is not the content so much as the presenters. (In saying that, the amount of GAA coverage they have is scandalous)

Finally got listening to the end of the Carthy interview and they mentioned live shows and a discount code being emailed out that day. Why don't they send them out to all subscription members? Is it just the first X amount that paid that get them?
