World Cup build up has been disappointing. Even moreso I'd imagine if you didn't care about Gaelic games or rugby. With Ireland failing to qualify and the PL being over since February, the CL was all that would keep a soccer fan interested(soccer is popular).

Aside from thinking there could be a bit more about the WC, I've continued to enjoy the podcast.

I'm a regular TFS listener, but I didn't bother with their preview shows as I thought it would be a rather boring rundown of the groups, ones to look out for and how well organised certain teams will be.

The Spanish sacking podcast yesterday was good fun I thought.

Ken has already witnessed a street fight and got locked in a toilet, looking forward to more Larry David type tales.

Just hearing that fella translate for Putin,
they should have got Ken to do it.

Thought the last two pods were great. Exactly what I want from SC, as others have said I don't want tactical analysis or in depth previews of games. I listened to Totally Football Show previews and they were only OK, didn't really get much out of them. In this day and age if you follow football in anyway at all you'll be more than familiar with most of the teams and i'd have zero interest in SC covering each team in each group. What is there of interest to say about Panama or Saudi Arabia? If a team goes on a run like Iceland at the Euros i'm sure they'll get a local journalist on which is great but certainly not something i'd care to listen to prior to the tournament.

I think I've already heard the WC jingle too many times already

    Good as it is

They shouldn't even use it. They should use the Littlest Hobo jingle

Its a real pity they aren't planning on releasing any pods this weekend. So many games to talk about. If they ever did weekend pods then this is when they should. Id rather they take a week off in july or whatever.

Yes was thinking the same. Love the show but not sure how much Pre-planning they’ve done for the WC beyond simply sending Ken over.

Ah what? I thought they were daily during the World Cup? That's a shame.

I don't think they did send him over. Most likely the irish times did

That's a bit of a let down to be honest. The World Cup moves so fast that if you don't have any content out over a weekend it feels like you may as well be talking about last year by the time Monday rolls around. Especially when a lot of the competition have pods daily, directly after matches. Second Captains are already at a disadvantage in that they're talking about stuff that happened the day before. They won't talk Ronaldo until Monday? They dropped the ball with that one.

They’ll probably do a bonus one if something major major happens. Let’s be honest; the lads are a lot of things but ferociously driven hard workers, probably not.

Judging by this thread, people would complain. In fact, no matter what they do, people would complain

It seems like a lot of people would be happier if Second Captains were just another Football Weekly/Totally Football. Second Captains is the only sports podcast I listen to precisely because it's not like those.

Not really. I think this thread is usually quite fair. They put no effort into their preview of the biggest football tournament on earth and got called out on it. Last night produced one of the great world cup games of the last decade and they won't be covering it until Monday, and there'll have been 7 matches since.

It wasn't long ago people kept getting called out for being "fanboys" when they were on a roll with producing brilliant content. It kind of tapered off a bit and people noticed. In general the podcast is great but it could be better.

Football Ramble, Totally football aren't doing extra shows either, I don't think.

This is the podcast format. They'll recap what's happened along the same schedule as before and I wouldn't expect anymore. I don't have time to be listening to podcasts every day. I'm busy watching the games.

They aren't getting substantial patreon earnings though.

Incorrect. Totally football released a podcast at about 11.30pm last night.

It is poor that by the time they cover the game of the tournament so far everyone will be talking about Messi and whatever Brazil and Germany get up to.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,436 ✭✭✭Beersmith

I thought the patreon model would free them up and at the start they said it would be what the members want and there would be no restrictions etc. I think the first week they did an extra pod due to some story and promised 1 pod a day but could be more. I don't remember ever getting any extra pods a day. Always sticking to around the 1hr mark no matter how much could be talked about. I listen regularly to one pod that is usually 5hr long for example.

The world cup and euros should be events with extra content end of.

By the time they record & release it, Monday's games will be in full swing.

So by the time I listen to it, there will have been 13 games since the previous pod.

Plus, it's only really for the group stages that there are games every day, so two weekends extra work.

Yeah, very poor showing. I only subscribed for the tournament but they won't get a second month off me anyway.

I love the lads, and think it's worth every penny.

It just strikes me as weird that they spent a chunk of time on Friday listing off the tons of sport that's on this weekend, but then doing as much coverage as they'd do on an average week in November.
