yes, hence my question, Richie has really improved as an interviewer, these pods compliment the overall offering very well.

I guess with the world cup and start of new season the footballers at least may not be available for interviewing?

You'd think if he was still involved he'd had done the Lyster one though (which was excellent btw, only listened to it today), though it probably worked better being more light hearted than what his style would have brought.

Found Gary Neville insufferable. Turned off after 20 mins. He contradicted himself at least twice in that time (Spurs players don’t need better wages / transfer spend to win the title then said Chelsea & City have won many titles in recent years due to spending big!) and wasn’t pulled up on it.

He was also just a bit of a prick all round.

The live shows as a podcast just don’t work well so I don’t get why they are put on the free service and promoted so much.

Ken isn’t himself, McDevitts too loud and showman like which doesn’t suit him at all.

I think we need Ken to relapse back onto the smokes (if he hasn't already) and to try quitting again.

Ken appears to have never watched Old School

The live ones are miles better.

We see I to eye to eye on many things Donnie, but I have to say I completely disagree with you on this. I can't stand the live versions of that show - and now they have them all the time!

I'd agree that live versions of pods tend to be a massive pile of cack. The change in setting usually doesn't help the dynamics of shows. The SC live show with Gary Neville was one of the rare exceptions.

Though it once again re-introduced us to the auditory abomination of Eoin's "live announcement" voice. It's a horror of many distinct parts. It starts big, but manages to stay flat and unemotional and then gradually dissapates before the end of the name of the guest, seemingly carrying on interminably into the sub sonic ennui, -

    "GAAAAAAAAAAAAAAARRRRYY Neeeeeevilllllllll............"

Thought Neville was definitely playing up to the crowd that night, that conversation might have panned out differently if they had him in studio, the same way we might have seen "showbiz baby" Dunphy if they did it in front of a crowd.

I forgot about that. I just listened yesterday, fúcking hell, Eoins live announcement voice is terrible. Especially with headphones, it's so shrill.

It always reminds me of how Kermit the Frog would introduce guests on The Muppet Show. A bit shouty and long.

I think we’ve seen that Ken isn’t massively respected by pros in his interviews with Roy Keane, John Giles, lee carsley, Neville and a good few others. He’s the best at certain things, but interviews of pros isn’t one of them unless you like that he gets them to mouth off at him which is entertaining.

I think ken didn't want to push certain things so it wouldn't be awkward on stage. For instance Neville in the mourinho debate that the number 1 most important thing for united is style of play. That's why ken said mourinho was a bad fit his style doesn't suit united. But Neville then couldn't understand why ken thought mourinho would be a bad fit.

Also, "money doesn't win you football matches". Then why did Liverpool not win the league in 26 years? "money".

I thought it was a great show, Neville was a brilliant guest and honest.

I think Ken's real forte is as an analyst of the world of football media; most of what he talks about is quotes and press conferences. He's good at it to be fair.

But when it comes to analysing the game as it's played, I think it gets a bit vaguey and I get the sense that some of it might be true and some of it might not be true, but mainly it's all just opinion. I guess that's okay at the end of the day, but when he's up against "real football men" sometimes they can sniff that out.

Gabriel Byrne wasn't great on Second Captains Saturday. He is a but too serious for this kind of show so I'm surprised they interviewed him

I thought they mentioned last week that Sharon Horgan would be the guest today. Probably better suited to the bants.

Delighted for Ken and all his fellow Limerick men.

Can't imagine what wild bit of audio they'll pull from local radio tomorrow.

The football pod is going to be Ken talking about Jose for an hour tomorrow, have a feeling I'll be deleting it after about fifteen minutes.

As much as I enjoy Ken taking the piss out of Mourinho, I hope it's limited a bit today. The result speaks for itself, we don't need 20 minutes on it.

I enjoyed the detailed examination of the Man City documentary; although I equally hope they never mention it again.

Ken nailed his Pep and Delph impressions. I got a chuckle from the repeated "guys" and "wow".

Given the weekend that was in it with United again being the only worthwhile talking point - I thought they got the balance of the show right.

what was with all the random love for Duffy??? Twas a good interview at the time but not sure why they brought it up again?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 35,024 ✭✭✭✭Baggly

An Irish person scored a goal in the PL. Its, sadly, a rare enough occurance to bring up the previous interview, imo.

I don't remember it and judging from the "highlight" they played, it's no wonder.

All the interviews with current players are bland and full of cliches. They are afraid to say anything in case the press take advantage of them. Can't say I blame them when you see the headlines on the tabloids
