Hadn't heard of these being ported, any source?
Hadn't heard rumours of a Skyward Sword remake either, beyond some people saying they'd like it remade with more traditional controls.

I think it's a case of people making educated guesswork, but it's guesswork all the same.

SKYRIM DIRECTOR TODD HOWARD DISCUSSES NINTENDO SWITCH

"I love it. I got to play it."

Skyrim director Todd Howard says he's a big fan of Nintendo Switch and all but confirmed his fantasy RPG for the hybrid console.

Speaking with Glixel, Howard mentioned that he actually got his hands on the Nintendo Switch. "I love it. I got to play it," he said. "... One of the best demos I've ever seen. Probably the best demo I've ever seen. At E3."

Howard's praise didn't stop there and might be a big reason why Bethesda is a Nintendo Switch partner, along with plenty of other companies. "I think it's really smart what they're doing [with Nintendo Switch]," Howard said.

"We're definitely going to be supporting it. It's the first time we've done something on Nintendo — if you don't count the old NES stuff."

Bethesda didn't confirm Skyrim: Special Edition for Nintendo Switch after being showcased in the system's reveal trailer. But Howard strongly implies it is in fact coming.

When asked about a portable Skyrim on Switch, Howard clarified that "it's the same game on the TV and on the other screen."

Skyrim might not be the only game Bethesda brings to Switch. The company could hypothetically also offer other franchises, like Doom or Fallout, on the hybrid console.

We'll have to wait for confirmation on those and other potential titles, as Nintendo is staying silent on the system until January 12. That's when the company will hold a special Nintendo Switch presentation.

Good to see those words from Bethesda, especially about the 'one of the best demo's I've ever seen' Switch demo part at E3. That could mean they've been impressed with it for quite a while now and may have other projects in the pipeline for it.

I don't know if it's going to be the same for everyone but having never owned a Wii U, I'm hoping that they bring everything from that console over. Obviously it can't be at the expense of new games but as long as there's no major grunt work to do in bringing them across, they absolutely should.

Yeah, from a business perspective it makes total sense to port as much of the Wii U's best exclusives over. From a personal point of view it'd put me off the console for the foreseeable future, but I doubt Nintendo are concerned by putting 12 million people's noses out of joint when they will be appealing to the greater audience.

Surely they need to consider the feelings of the 12 million people who've kept their name on life support in the home console market? Surely they're aware of the massive crossover between that 12 million and the number of 3DSes sold, both to the Wii U owners and their poor children who are sick of hearing about how Pokemon Blue was so much better than this modern ****e with it's angry ice creams and bin bags, and how there are only 4 Star Wars movies so take your midichlorians and your pod racing and get out of my house!

With Bethesda on board a Switch edition of Doom 3 would be pretty fantastic.
There's mountains of games out there that continue to sell and would make a great addition to the Switch library, the Arkham trilogy for example, not to mention Bioshock and Dishonored 1/2/all the DLC.
Street Fight V would be cool too.

On a personal note, and recognising the impossibility of it, Outrun 2006: Coast2Coast would be a system seller for me, that game is simply sublime racing crack cocaine.

Sadly it makes perfect sense to just pretend the Wii U never happened and start from scratch with the switch.

Are you counting the Star Wars Christmas special again?

If they give the new versions for about e10 to everyone who can prove they own the Wii u versions, I'd be quite happy to have them all rereleased. If we're expected to pay full price for maybe 5% new content, after supporting them on the Wii u, I'd be annoyed.

On the ports, I don't really get the whole 'we deserve something if they re-release them' etc. The ultimate overall popularity or lack of with the Wii U doesn't change the fact we bought the games on the system and we played them, why would them being re-released make anyone entitled to them? For sure Nintendo can do it as a nice gesture to get a percentage off if you have Wii U copies etc but it's not a 'deserving' thing imo. My nose certainly isn't put out of joint just because they'd be re-releasing games, if I want to play Mario Kart 8 I'll play it, if I want to buy Mario Kart Switch and decide whether any extras are worth it, I'll buy it or not buy it.

Doom 3 or new Doom? I'd much prefer this year's game personally.

Look, you *are* right. But shut up! They might be listening!

Also, if they port Smash or Mariokart and especially Splatoon to the Switch and do nothing for the WiiU owners, there's no getting around what a massive kick in the balls to the party faithful that is. They are all primarily online multiplayer games, and they're splitting the audience - not just giving all the goodies to their new audience with a facelift but actively taking away from the existing playerbase of the Wii U games as well. And that really hurts with Splatoon because
    a) the local multiplayer is crap and
    b) WE MADE THAT GAME!

Yes, Nintendo made it great, but we made it a success. We are the reason that they can stick it on the Switch as a launch title and people will be excited.

    And I love free stuff.

Totally agree! People who owned the WiiU games, do not have to buy the Switch version. But we all know they will. I know I probably will, bit I'll wait for some sort of 'sale' somewhere :p

Yes, I paid my money for the product as-is at the time. It's just that in order to get the new bits they're adding to the games, I'll need to re-buy all the old bits too, which is a bit irritating.

It's as if instead of offering expansions to a game, a game was re-released with the expansion built in - so if you want to play Dragonborn, you have to buy a second copy of Skyrim. If you bought the original Skyrim at launch, you shouldn't be annoyed, right?

I know there is already DLC for the Wii U versions, but they are adding more which I doubt will be offered to Wii U owners as DLC.

Another Wii U game gone and an exclusive too. Goodbye 1 minute load screens.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,407 ✭✭✭Pac1Man

WiiU owners already got a kick in the balls with the Zelda delay and the rumoured Pikmin 4 which seems to be held back for the Switch.

I'm not surprised by these regurgitations. They will appeal to a large audience.

I'm hoping people make a considered decision before pre-ordering, rather than mindlessly jumping in day one just because it has a Nintendo badge. I doubt that will happen though.

Wonder if they'll replace the Nintendo Easter Eggs or just get rid of them altogether. Like the Bullet Bills and Stars.
If it means we get a sequel later then I'll take it.

Though they have to keep the loading times. Otherwise, when are people going to check their phones, go to the toilet or make tea?

    Marketing wise: home console
Actuality: portable that docks to your tv.

Surely as a console gamer you must have experience and knowledge of Nintendo consoles ? BTW Nintendo is certainty one of the big boys

A lot of short sighted speculation that it's little more than a replacement for the 3DS.
January 13th should sort that out.
From what has been seen, and that's all that's been seen, the Switch is an ample alternative for the PS4/Xbox1, and will have the added bonus of being playable on the go as well.
The benefit of the on the go area is the vast legion of Nintendo portable players that this will appeal to, a group that didn't buy into the WiiU.
So, in short, the Switch will be a home console that will, hopefully, also appeal to the 3DS owner too.

Will be interesting to see what the things they haven't revealed about it are, that a few developers have hinted at.

I have this idea stuck in my head about a cloud based save system that they can advertise with an fp-pov video of Luigi getting off his face on shrooms and tearing round the mushroom kingdom causing havoc while the prodigy sing "back my Switch up"

It would be better off as a portable console.

GameStop: Nintendo Switch Has “Tremendous Potential as a Game Changer;” Interest Similar to Xbox One

During GameStop’s quarterly financial conference call, the retailer’s executives talked at length about the Nintendo Switch, mentioning how the company polled its Power-up Rewards members to gauge purchase interest.
“We’re also seeing strong consumer interest for the upcoming launch of Switch from Nintendo. The Switch users physical media, and Nintendo products have historically a low digital download rate. So we expect this to be a console that drives strong sales of physical products along with the console. “

According to the survey, 27% of the Power-up Rewards members who are aware of the Nintendo Switch also plan to purchase the console. This is in line with the purchase intent for the Xbox One at the same point in time.

It was clarified later in the call that clearly not everyone that expressed purchase intent is going to actually buy the console, but it’s still a good benchmark because it can be compared cycle-over-cycle.
“I think it’s fair to say that bodes well for the launch and the success of this product, keeping in mind that we don’t even have specific details on price points on the market. I think we’re gonna be doing the survey again in mid-January, after all the details are out, and I think we’ll have a much better read on it at that time, but right now everything we’re seeing is very, very encouraging.”

Later in the call, we also got more impressions on the switch, that GameStop CEO Paul Raines had a chance to test himself iduring a recent trip to Nintendo.
“The Switch is a very interesting device. […] Nintendo Switch has the potential to expand incrementally the audience. The reasons are: the IP is more compelling for family than the other types of IPs, so Mario and all those things, and movement-related games are more fun for kids, you know, taking those accessories off, what they call the wings and the master controller, you can really do a lot of interesting things with that in gameplay. And then the last thing I will say, they got a unique portability to it. […] I think it really got tremendous potential as a game changer. We’ll have to wait and see like everything else in this industry, the consumers will vote with their dollars.”

Last, but not least, it was mentioned that one of the biggest declines seen in the console audience has been among those who came in because of offerings like the Nintendo Wii and Guitar Hero, and there is an opportunity for them to come back with the Switch.

GameStop’s research can distinguish between hardcore gamers and people who are “sort of broad-market family gamers,” and there is a strong interest between the broad group of consumers, so the retailer’s executives are “very optimistic about the possibilities.”
