Jesus Christ that laughter track/volume/whatever is driving me insane

Another flimsy episode, only redeeming scenes for me was the side plot with Alan.

Must have been cold on set judging by the layers of clothes and even coats left on indoors.

That was a good episode and good guest star

Agreed. Best episode of the season so theres some hope that it might find its grove in season 2.

    Why?

The foreigner residing among you must be treated as your native-born. Love them as yourself, for you were foreigners in Egypt. I am the LORD your God.

It actually popped into my head the other day. It seemed like it disappeared around Christmas after a small number of episodes. I’d assumed it’d been cancelled.

I had to move house at short notice last year which is when I watched the original Frasier series for the first time. Then the new series came out but I never heard of it getting picked up for a second season. While, I like Peri Gilpin, it seems a little desperate to bring her back. I wonder if they are unhappy with the numbers and are thinking that this will improve things.

First episode of returning series was ok.

Second episode was mediocre... bizarre to release a Valentines Day themed episode now.

First two episodes were very blah - enjoyed the first season just enough to come back but it does miss the old characters that made it what it was - not just about Frasier. Maybe it's not edgy enough for this era

haven’t watched these episodes yet, but my own opinion on season one was that it had a lot of potential, unfortunately I don’t think we’ll get the same level of writing because unfortunately a lot of the circumstance and humour in the original is too intellectual for today’s audiences, not to mention ton everything is too PC and networks are probably nervous of walking the line.

Compared to the original show though, the younger cast just don’t work (with the possible exception of Niles & Daphne’s son) the original was very much an ensemble around a central character It was very much a case of playing off Craiser’s aloofness and irritation with Roz, Daphne & Niles and of course Martin.

Occasionally the comic timing of Frazier & Lilith was unsurpassed and there’s one episode where the majority of it is just the two of them and it’s genius

The current younger cast just don’t hit the same way. I do enjoy Nicholas Lindhurst. Not sure if it’s because I like him or his character though. Although I do believe he’s holding back in his performance.

    That's nonsense, in fairness.

The problem with the new series is that only one of the old characters is back (save for Roz's cameo). The new characters just aren't great and it's either stuff we've all seen before, old sitcom cliches or just patently terrible ideas like Frasier and his son chasing the same woman who's interested in both a 69 year old man and a firefighter in the prime of life.

There will always be a market for great comedy just as there will be for people baselessly and unceasingly shrieking about woke or PC or whatever other dreck they see on the internet. The new Frasier series just isn't that great. At its best, it becomes just better than watchable. It ultimately feels like Kelsey Grammer needs to pay for a new house, legal fees or something and this was how he went about getting the cash.

hiding behind the plants was just awful. Niles kid is back and he ain't remotely close to a good character.

it's just not funny. not even close.

    Actually…

SIL (41) was seeing both a 35 year old and a 62 year old simultaneously for a couple of months last year. So it’s not as outlandish as it seems.

The other stuff, you kinda repeated what I said

None of this makes me want to resubscribe to Paramount Plus, honestly. It sounds like they should have just sold the second season to anyone willing to host it.

I think it's more the strategy that we will see minor celebrities as extras in each episode. It's such a short run that they don't have time to develop any plots or character arcs as they once could.

They had a thing in the original series where celebrities would be the callers into the show, might be trying to do something similar, I was kind of hoping that Frasier would start going out with the bartender, be a nice change to see him in a relationship rather than complaining about not being in 1.

As a massive, massive Frasier fan I was willing to give this lots of time to work its way in, but, I lasted maybe 4 episodes and gave up. It only being on Paramount+ wasn't a deciding factor for me, it just didn't work for me. To be honest, if it was anywhere close to the original, we would have had multiple threads on here, not be on page 5 of its only thread.

I cant imagine it being on Paramount+ helped it's ratings though, so when I clicked into the thread just now, I was assuming to read it had been cancelled.

Bar Nicholas Lyndhurst, the rest of the cast are very poor, compare it to the fantastic cast of the Seattle crew…

Massive, massive fan of the original, easily my favourite sitcom. I've watched it a good few times and also love watching random episodes on channel 4 in the mornings when I'm off.

This is terrible tho, really really terrible. I'm still watching it but find myself very bored during each episode, it did get slightly better as season 1 went on but the first 2 episodes of season 2 are hard to watch again. David is a really poor actor and ruins every scene he's in.

I didn't like Nicholas Lyndhurst in it. I liked him in other things, I just didnt feel it fit. Him being an alcoholic felt very forced.

I've watched it a good few times and also love watching random episodes on channel 4 in the mornings when I'm off.

I could not estimate how many times Ive watched it. Probably watched it almost in its entirety about 60 times. I say almost because I know it well enough that I know by the episode name or the opening scene to know it's one of the episodes I can't stand and skip.

Episode 3 was better but maybe that was me coming in from a low bar but get a feeling this skit has been done before

I finished season 2 and for me it ended on a high, so much so that I watched the episode twice.

It was a Christmas special and there was laughs but it had also an emotional hit. A real nice story revolving round Alan and his daughter. I’ve grown to like Alan and this was his strongest episode. Also the addition of Patrice Heaton as Frasiers girlfriend has been a great addition.

I’ve enjoyed season 2 but it is not at level of the original and I’ve accepted it never will be. I do enjoy the episodes where the original cast return. For me the highlight was the return of Bebe. Not sure how well the show is doing, it’s in the Paramount+ Top 10 but behind the original. IMDB makes no reference to a season 3, has it being renewed?

No word yet has it been picked up or cancelled

Nicholas and Kelsey are carrying the show, rest are fairly poor especially Olivia and David but at least they scaled back David…..think i read somewhere that the writing team actually never watched Frasier, not sure how sure but it wouldnt surprise me

A little shame, it was no where near the brilliance of the original, can't see Netflix or Amazon grabbing a nostalgia show

They tried, it wasn't the original, and it failed - there were some moments of brilliance akin to the original but most of it was just fluff

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,118 ✭✭✭✭LambshankRedemption

As a massive Frasier fan I was very disappointed with this and didn't bother with series two. I would imagine I am not the only one.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 720 ✭✭✭BaywatchHQ

It would have been a better show if Eve, Freddie, David and Olivia weren't in it. Something that I feel is that Americans are even more annoying to listen to than ever. Maybe it is just the cheesy style of humour or poor writing. Eve and Olivia were particularly insufferable to me.

They didn't try to fix anything. S2 was as bad as S1. Butchery.

    Adios.
