My jaysus, Norrie’s backhand makes Jimmy Connors’ BH look pretty!

Raducanu is pulling out some unreal shots. Enjoyable match.
She was so impressive in the last round..even more so today...a winnable looking round of 16 match as well!

    Kyrgios is gone

pity to go out like that

maybe McEnroe is right when he says that he doesn't play and train enough to avoid injury!

Kyrgios retired at one set all with FAA. Wonder if he'll be able to play the next round of mixed doubles with Venus Williams?

Wow. You don't often see Federer being broken to love when serving to stay in the set.

Federer had the chance to break in the game before, so match should have been wrapped up already, instead it could be a long afternoon for Federer and no guarantee he'll win it

Serve hasn’t been right this year

    Another sloppy service game.

I somehow missed the announcement in April that from next year, there will be play on middle Sunday, About time too, it was ridiculous to have all 16 fourth-round matches in a single day.

And Norrie breaks back for 3-3.

Suits him to retire injured. You have to be putting in some effort off the court. Billy Jean King was saying on the BBC earlier that she is just frustrated with him. All that talent and he is wasting it.

I switched to the Medvedev Cilic match after watching Federer get over the line. There is a noticeable difference in quality, Cilic playing fairly well.

and just as I was beginning to contemplate how interesting a final between him and Djokovic would be :(

Why did they switch to the barty match? I've no interest in that no contest.

  • Registered Users Posts: 5,301 ✭✭✭Augme

Although Medvedev is doing his best to make his game a non contest as well.

Because Barty is the #1 seed, and a genuine favourite for the women's title. Medvedev may be #2 seed, but he's not likely to even reach the semi-final*, as he would meet Federer in the quarter-final.

*Or the last 16 at this rate.

The way things are going, they may switch back to Court 1 in 30 minutes or even less. Siniakova is beginning to lose the rag, something that she does far too often.

I always though that was about court maintenance.

Maybe they will only use some courts on Sunday, and some on Monday,

she is only playing a lowly-ranked (in singles) doubles specialist tho

why not stick with the actual better match?

    strange

The Beeb may be a bit gun-shy about hopping about from one match to another on a Saturday evening. They've taken enough criticism in the past for things like that, Also, lots of people will have access to the red button, or to streaming, if they really want to see another match.

Cilic/Medvedev is on BBC2 now, so next question: If it's still going at 8:30 (and it will, at 2 sets all), will they break away from coverage for the highlights program? Probably not, for the same reason they stuck with the Barty match.

  • Registered Users Posts: 320 ✭✭klr87

Wait ... they did cut away at 8:30 for the highlights. Maybe they figured no-one would notice with the football on. Anyway, Cilic's goose is well and truly cooked,

Some ovation for Cilic going off. Never saw him so animated.

See Bartoli on the highlights show.

Somebody has taken a foot pump to her.

I thought it impolite to comment on it, but hell yes. She had that problem for a good while where she was desperately thin, which thankfully was diagnosed and resolved. Now she seems to have really let herself go in the other direction.

The exchange at the end was priceless. Tomljanovic waving to the crowd, Ostapenko going to her bag. Then Ostapenko made a point of waiting at the net to shake hands - which they did:

Aljona at net: You have zero respect. Your behaviour is terrible.
Ajla: Honestly, you are the one to talk.

you can't beat a good'ol cat fight :pac:

I'd say they didn't want to be seen to be dropping a women's match for men's sports (football or Cilic v Medvedev match), there won't really be any backlash for dropping the Cilic v Medvedev match even though that's the match they should have stayed with.

Medvedev is a strange player, on the one hand looks like he could potentially reach the final, but, also looks like
he could lose the next day out.

That was a pretty outside shot to be fair. I think Kyrgios has reached one QF at a slam in his whole career. I don’t think he has even reached the final of a masters series

I think it was about court maintenance (although i suspect it was originally for religiois reasons).

As far as i know they changed the type of grass to a more durable one and that is why they can do it now. It may also be why they can start at 11am now too (as possibly any dew dries quicker?)

Kyrgios (a) didn't seem too bothered in the on-court interview and said something along the lines of (b) not being surprised about getting injured having just come back to play high-level tennis.

yet again (a) and (b) here just shows what a waste.

He is the ultimate attention seeker, find him really annoying. Everything always about him, maturity of a young teen. Spends his time taking digs at other players, particularly Djokovic and Nadal but also other players. He needs to grow up
