If MM did nothing about it people would be complaining, now he wants to meet the CEO and it's 'pointless'.....
People will complain one way or the other but good luck to him.

Great news - well done to all involved. Another step in the right direction. Single dose, kept in the fridge, this will be massive for all of us.

It is indeed great news, does anyone have the figures to hand of the number of doses we are expecting from Johnson & Johnson and when?

Edit: It's okay, I found them in the original article. 600k doses in Q2.

The people who think it's pointless are a different set of people who want him to meet the CEO (I'd be in the former, but it might give them an opportunity to announce a little boost in supply), as a politician you have to pander to both sides .

Mad stats out of Israel, crazy impressive vaccine

Pfizer has tested the vaccine on few hundred kids there too, only minor side effects in some kids

Wonder will Pfizer do challange trials in Israel?

That would be the final nail and absolute proof

Reid: Cohort 4 to be identified by hospitals in Phase 1. Remainder identified via GPs in Phase 2.

13 vaccinations centres operational. Remainder opened based on supply - likely early April.

    10,500 HCW trained as vaccinators.

The problem I have with it is that the government seem to be doing absolutely **** all about the situation in this country and are relying on vaccines being the panacea to get us out of everything. They did nothing about hospital capacity. They did nothing about planning for mandatory quarantining. They had absolutely no plan put together with regards to the schools and the absolute mess that was since January. They're now talking about locking us down til May and possibly beyond with no sign of any planning for anything else. So yeah, this seems like a pointless exercise that's easy for the government to look like they're doing something.

So they actually surpassed their target of 84K last week.

Yes, but isn't that weird that some of those who died to blood clots had just received a dose of vaccine?
I mean, can it be a coincidence? Some of them were young and fit.

The only reason we are hearing about them is because they had the vaccine. If they hadn’t we would have never heard about it.

Just say i had a dodgy ticker. As i left the doctors after my jab i unfortunately drop dead ( not because of the vaccine) i bet i’d make the news.

No slide for next week... once bitten (by AZ), twice shy.

That indicates to me cohort 2 is largely done in terms of first doses.

J&J one-dose has just been approved

    https://www.thejournal.ie/eu-medicines-agency-approves-johnson-johnson-one-shot-vaccine-5378150-Mar2021/

TheJournal are all on the ball, just avoid the comments section as usual

Since its been an hour or so, heres a selection of the good ones for posterity -

"AstraZeneca was not banned. It is anti British sentiment that is fuelling this non sensical narrative about the vaccine."

"I mean it’s been checked and approved. Unlike their baby powder, there’s people backing it. I’d take it on my backside on live TV if it meant I could get some pints!"

"Every silver lining has a cloud, eh?"

"Don’t get too excited. Ireland will be only drip fed to a time when the more powerful EU members are full. Unless Ireland fights its corner a bit better it will be left waiting for the scraps. Its like some animals are more equal than others in EU circles."

"EU must be seen to ACT against lies and bs excuses…enough waffle about contract law. Seize facilities, detain executives…"

"I prefer biontech/Pfizer & moderna than dont trust astrazeneca/Oxford happen develop blood clot dangerous"

And one thats actually not too bad

"Headache, tiredness, muscle pain and nausea.
Most people feel that on a Monday after a weekend in the pub. Bring it on!"

    Yeah it's very lazy alright

It's a bit like someone wanting to build muscle

Instead of having a good diet, good sleep, good excercise plan, working hard in the gym, living well

They don't bother with any of that and just take anabolic steriods

You know what? They would build far more muscle taking those anabolic steriods than any excercise, clean eating, sleep, working hard etc

Vaccine is the same principal, it is so good, so effective and like the steriods, all those things you listed like hospital beds, quarantine are not even needed.

Yeah just after seeing it. Absolutely phenomenal to see such a sharp drop. Real impact of vaccination being seen in healthcare settings

    Great figures

Reid: Over 85's. Previously 700/800 people via 65 GPs were outstanding. Now down to 500 outstanding via 30 GPs.

Henry: Over 85s housebound/hospitalised will be grouped together with all over 70s housebound, and done on a regional basis via NAS. Estimate of 1400/1500 over 70s housebound.

As of today, AZ still haven't confirmed how much they will deliver next week.

That seems like very slow progress in the over 85s

200-300 done so far this week

    That's less than 100 a day

You would hope such issues won't arise again in the next age groups

What's going on with the waves? My understanding is we on these islands are in the midst of the third wave

Remember these few hundred will be dotted around the country. its not as if they can all form an orderly queue at one venue. Of course it will happen other age groups. it would be a miracle if it didn't. There will be recluses, people who refuse a vaccine, etc, etc.

Paul Reid has said the additional 40-50k Pfizer jabs for this quarter have us on track for just under 1.2 million

A family member working in a crèche got it today, does that seem right?

Was it said how many they aim to do next week ?

HSE needs to learn from the over 80s and have a plan in place for those circumstances

Those people dotted around the country and the small GP practices will be there for other ages as well

I know my friends nana was in one of those small GP practices that up to this week hasn't received doses and has to cancel vaccinations

That practice has a list of over 70s and has submitted it to the HSE

Surely you combine the ages and get everybody in on just the one day bit like Sneem?

The HSE has an excuse for issues cropping up with the over 85s but not the age groups under it

On track? AZ need to magic up 25m doses for the EU in the space of a few weeks for us to hit that target. That seems far fetched given they haven't even provided 15m in the last month.
