DT marginal favourite now with unibet and 888, straight cointoss with Boyles, betVictor and WilliamHill. JB wafer-thin favourite with the other bookmakers.

Has anything in particular happened in the last week for this to happen, e.g., polls in marginal states?

I'd kinda convinced myself a few weeks ago that it was one-way traffic in Biden's favour.

Trump's had his Reichstagfeuer moment. I'll hazard a guess that riots are at the top of the hour of every Sinclair and Fox News broadcast to rally the party and re-capture any centre-right voters who've flipped to Biden over the past few months.

So disheartening to see what is going on at the moment. Everyone is calling for peaceful protests as any violence plays right into the hands of the right wing. Seems to be evidence of far right players using BLM protests to cause the very mayhem that Donald wants, so he can label anyone not on his 'law and order' side Antifa, do nothing Dems, etc.

Meanwhile the focus moves entirely away from the inept pandemic mismanagement that has caused so much more chaos than a few riots.

It's far easier to stay one step ahead when you don't care about the damage you cause along the way, and he is determined to tear the country apart to protect himself.

Yeah, if the BLM and others had any sense they would see the potential damage they will do. Hold off for the moment, work on getting Biden elected and look to him to deliver the chance that they want.

Wouldn't be surprised of some astroturfing going on with those BLM protesters

The #Trumpstroke idea has blown up because Trump himself took to Twitter talking about it at least twice. Yet the Trump fans still find a way to blame the Democrats. It's like a default position.....IT'S THE DEMS!

Indeed , the 1st person to mention "Stroke" , min or otherwise was Trump.

A number of people had been asking questions about the Walter Reede visit , which popped back up into the news in recent days with the book release talking about Pence being lined up to take over etc.

But that didn't mention Strokes - Only Trump did, and the fact that he specifically said "a series of Mini-Strokes" is perhaps telling.

Why deny "a series of mini-strokes" specifically?

I know he has been as mad as a bag of cats forever but since then has there been a notable difference, I know anecdotally he seems to be, especially in the last 4 or 5 interviews. Did you see Laura Ingram doing cartwheels to stop him going off the rails? This isn't good whether he is re-elected or not.

Laura Ingraham was like his handler trying to keep him on track and kept covering for his mad ramblings "but that's not what you're saying....". It was bizarre.

Any Trump supporter claiming Biden is mentally unfit, should be downright alarmed at Trump's behaviour.

You see, that's the joy of projection. You get your lie out about the opposition (that you're really suffering from/participating in), so when the real accusations come out, one just engages in whataboutisms

And anyone that tried to claim that there is an MSM is against Trump needs only watch that excuse for an interview and see that FOX news is 100% working as the PR communications arm of Trump.

I am so surprised Murdoch hasn't stepped in and given the memo to let him sink. I know Hannity and co will still trumpet for him but they are going to look so bad afterwards. Like when they had projected Romney to win by a landslide. Not going to help the Fox brand when all the court cases come out and their guy is dragged through the mud. If he stays in power a large percentage of their audience will be dead.

This. A cornerstone of this Presidency.

Donald trump would a terrible lineman in American football because given how he jumped on one suggestion of why he went to hospital last year he’d be drawing flags left and right. The Biden campaign need to work with a hard count more because trump takes the bait more often than not.

The "Law and Order" Angle doesn't seem to be working for Trump.

Biden leading by 47% to 39% on the Question - Who do you trust more on Public safety?

    https://twitter.com/MorningConsult/status/1301119298837110786

In fact , Biden leading (and in some cases by a very wide margin) on all of the categories except "The Economy" and Trump only has a 1 point lead there.

  • Registered Users Posts: 8,207 ✭✭✭partyguinness

The more "polls" that place Biden in the lead the more worried I get and the less likely he is to win IMO. In fact I hate these polls.

Yup, polls are almost meaningless. They don't take account of all the hurdles put in the way of voters this time. It's going to come down to who makes the effort to get off their arse, aren't too bothered about the virus and stand in line for hours. At the moment those people are mostly Republican.

  • Registered Users Posts: 21,159 ✭✭✭✭Water John

    No the polls should be pushing every likely Dem canvasser and voter to go for broke. This is the reason why;
'Nearly half of all Americans (47%) say they are worried about the possibility of Trump losing the election but refusing to concede defeat, Opinium found. Among Biden voters, that figure climbs to 75%, whereas for Trump voters it stands at 30%.'
Only by crushing Trump are you ensured the safety of the country.

'It found Biden leading Trump by a huge 15 points – 56% to 41% – among those who are registered to vote and indicate that they are certain to do so. In swing states Wisconsin and Florida, Biden enjoys leads of 14 points (56% v 42%) and seven points up (53% v 46%) respectively.'

Florida esp has to be won with a wide margin, to stop De Santis acting the maggot.

I wonder if there is any way of doing a poll based on who will be physically able to vote? I don't mean just entitled to vote, but actually able to get to a polling station and not have to queue for hours, or be denied at the ballot box, or arrested, or be menaced by a militiaman with a rifle. I'm making the assumption that the mail-in ballots will undergo some kind of hi-jinks and may not all make it through, or have some weird legal stuff holding over them.

Trump's corner are playing the old card from the early 70s. I can't remember was it Nixon or LBJ:

"We all know he is not a I]insert tag of choice[/I but sure as hell make him deny it anyway."

Now we have Biden walking right in to it and telling people he is not a socialist. Just as effective.

  • Registered Users Posts: 14,053 ✭✭✭✭StringerBell

Biden has dealt with it pretty well "do I look like a radical socialist?" Or whatever he said to that effect. Just don't get bogged down on the point and he's fine.

"People say ‘go with the flow’ but do you know what goes with the flow? Dead fish."

Another few weekend polls in. YouGov has Biden at +11 51%-40% and even Trumps favourite Rasmussen has Biden at +4 49%-45% - that's like +8/9 given their bias. Trump has slipped in most polls since the RNC.

We know Biden needs 5/6% to be sure. The 8/9% would be a walkover.

I'm not optimistic, but if he is beaten I suggest we all meet to celebrate, drinks are on me!

If Trump is beaten, the real work will only start then.

In the US, Covid will still be an issue and the the BLM cause will still be susceptible to being ignited by future events.

And if Biden wins, the narrative will change from 'There's no problem' to 'I can't believe how much of a problem there is' almost overnight and there will be no shortage of commentators and groups to say what should be done and what a Republican would do if they were in charge.

All the people who were against any lockdown measures or use of masks, how do we think they are going to respond when the person telling them to do something is a Democrat President, if that is what happens. How do we think people will react if there is an attempt to bring in any type of federal law to mandate masks or quarantine or testing or whatever.

This election isn't about Biden fixing everything by next March, it's more about stopping the Trump sh*tshow from doing any more damage.

Biden has dealt with it pretty well "do I look like a radical socialist?" Or whatever he said to that effect. Just don't get bogged down on the point and he's fine.

Che Guevara was a radical socialist. Joe Biden is a pretty bland and centrist politician of the bland and centrist U.S. tradition. Anyone who thinks Joe Biden is a radical socialist has obviously spent far too long on Facebook and Twitter and hasn't read a serious history book or article by a respected objective journalist in quite some time, if ever. Unfortunately, that appears to be an alarmingly large swathe of the U.S. electorate.

And the fact that a decent public healthcare system in the U.S., or even just stripping out the disgusting profiteering that goes on over there, is regarded as intolerable socialism boggles the mind. Even the Tories in Britain have to make out like they want to protect the NHS. Just shows how far to the right some in the U.S. are on the matter.

Some people go very hard to the right on politics, but then they seem to view their politics as centrist and that their conclusions are what every sensible should arrive at. Consequently, everything else to them is intolerably left-wing. The move to discredit the press and media, plus the middle ground, has to be one of, if not, *the* most alarming political development of the last 10 years in western nations.

Absolutely, it's going to be a monumental challenge, but this election is about fixing the hole so the ship doesn't sink. Anything is better than that.

"The US has imposed sanctions on senior officials in the International Criminal Court (ICC), including chief prosecutor Fatou Bensouda.

Secretary of State Mike Pompeo accused the court of "illegitimate attempts to subject Americans to its jurisdiction".

The Hague-based ICC is currently investigating whether US forces committed war crimes in Afghanistan.

The US has criticised the court since its foundation and is one of a dozen states which have not signed up.

Balkees Jarrah, senior counsel at the non-governmental organisation Human Rights Watch, condemned the sanctions as a "shameful new low for US commitments to justice for victims of the worst crimes".

Mr Pompeo's move marked a "stunning perversion of US sanctions, devised to penalize rights abusers and kleptocrats, to target those prosecuting war crimes", she tweeted."

They're good at pontificating on human rights abuses in China etc but when it comes to possible abuses on their own watch, it's clear they couldn't care less. Just another example of this administration's hypocrisy.

    Morally bankrupt and getting worse.
What's the point in draining the swamp if it only exposes the feces encrusted misanthropes actually running policy?

That the US has consistently refused to recognise or submit to the ICC's jurisdiction is bad.
That they now seek to subvert, influence, pervert and suborn the ICCs investigation into US cases by sanctioning the court?!

    Absolutely scumbag thuggery!
That warrants a concerted and robust response from the rest of the world and indeed from all multi-state organisations.
