Adds to the lockdown theory, the government advice was to see if the public would listen to the warnings, obviously not cause ppl are absolutely thick. So no option but to go to the lockdown phase. My mate works in a restaurant and they had just under 100 ppl cancel over this weekend alone but they are going to do deliveries instead, a lot of restaurants are being innovative. Hopefully they can stay functioning so that'll be another source of food if ppl don't want to venture outside.

In fairness lads looking at other countries now I do hope we go into lockdown. Some people here just don't have brains or intuition to know that things have changed and that we have to follow advice to protect others. Especially the cleaning hands etc. This I'm grand attitude us going to lead to deaths because it's the old people who will suffer and nit the dopes walking around saying jaysus I think people are overreacting. Just had a friend get thick with me because I wouldn't shake his hand ,he actually told me not to believe the hype. That's what your dealing with I'd rather an overreaction from people than an under reaction if it means clearing this up quickly. Stay clean people.

Most restaurants and pubs are closing,. Very few are staying open if any at all. Vintners Association are advising the premises to close.

Dont know what are we waiting for..we are 2-3 weeks ahead of Italy lets face it. Airports should be shut already especialy with so many flights frm uk where is 2000 new cases every day. In other coutries with less confirmed cases people uses face masks, goverments closing borders etc.. only Ireland still sleep and wait for corona with open arms..wtf? Do we need to have hundreds of deaths to wake up??? Army tents on street to help sick people coz hospitals will collapse?? Will we then realize how stupid and selfish we are??

Calm down. What's with the hysterics? The government are doing damn better than most so lets at least give them some credit.

Army and tents? Jesus have a day off. Hospitals will not collapse.

Look at our neighbours across the water. They are the ones sitting on their hands. At least we have been proactive unlike them so we could be in a worse position. I agree with one thing you said though...we should close the airports.

Am calm lad..just look at the cities in Italy..have family member livin near Milan..chatin daily with him on skype and know how doea it looks like there now..hospitals are full..thats why army tents are on streets there to help.. thats just facts of these days. And thats where we heading too.. mark my words!

I went out for a walk to Tintern Abbey and i expected it to be dead.....car park was full. Loads of people out and about. At least though there was plenty of space to keep away from each other. The people who are socialising in confined spaces are being silly alright.

It will be very hard for people to sit in and do nothing especially if the weather is good.

To be fair we as a country have acted as should because of the terrible situation in Italy and for that fact i think we will be fine. We will get through it without the need for Army tents.

If we end up in a lockdown lets hope people pay heed unlike those in pubs and clubs all over the country last night. Maybe the next step is a ban on opening of pubs and clubs which our Taoiseach has already spoke of. All these steps will aid in our fight of this virus. All proactive steps.

Tough **** of the weather is good, the virus doesn't take a day off cause it's warm out. Just listen to the advice and follow it. In regards to the army getting involved, they will take over buildings ie: sports halls unused buildings and set up triage, they are medically trained for wars so they'll be vital for us.

Calm down! People will go outside and they'll be right to do so provided they are sensible. Anyone cowering in thier home shouting at the world is not actually helping thier own mental health.

Im sorry but such a scenario wont happen. The army wont take over anything and even if they tried they dont have the numbers to do so in the required manner.

We have/will take the steps needed and come out of this in a couple of weeks time.

Re. The pubs closures. Obviously the government thought the general public could not be trusted to avoid the pubs on St Patrick's Day so made the decision for them! And TBH they are probably right!!
In fairness they are trying to trust the country to do the right thing but much like a parent going away and leaving their teenage son and daughters a free gaff they will always be left down!
Given Ireland is an island we should be able to meet minimize the effects of the virus but a lot of people are unwilling to give up a couple of weeks and are carrying on regardless.

The Army combined with the Gardaí and defence forces of course can do this. A couple of weeks is very optimistic but I hope that we do. All scenarios are on the table cause it showed already that people aren't that sensible.

They've been there for the last week doing some sort of training, nothing to do with COVID19.

Social distancing doesn’t matter so much in the open air, it’s only in enclosed spaces. We took our dog down to Mahon Falls today. Got us out of the house and he loves the open space

Some social media distancing might be in order. Some people on Facebook and WhatsApp sharing nonsense as if it were gospel
