From the 12z ICON would say that the winds in round two will peak at around 5 and 6 p.m. then gradually diminish for the rest of the evening. Would expect some fairly severe inundations at the next high tide on west coast as the gradient is perfectly aligned and fetch is sustained over 12-18 hours. Whatever gust speeds you have now will probably add 3-5 knots at the peak, so could touch 70 knots at Belmullet and Mace Head.

Storm winds starting to arrive in Galway it seems...

I would use today as a good barometer for weeding out the wasters.

Anyone who didn't show up from the weather is lazy and lacks common sense.

Says trampoline recue man who can get from Salthill to Leixlip in 10 minutes:rolleyes:

Back to the old SW winds battering everywhere again. Had a little respite when they were southerly but can always rely on SW to blow any remaining cobwebs away.

    NW Clare

Very strong winds all the time east Galway.

Is that it for South Dublin or is the storm hitting later this evening?

    The tide is turning…

Pretty windy and miserable here in Sligo from about 7am which gradually increased until the squall line passed by us around 12:20. Ferocious wind and torrential rain, which thankfully didn't last too long, followed by relative calm for 90 mins or so. The wind is starting to pick up again noticeably now though.

    Round 2, ding-ding.

Great forecasting by weather models and Met Eireann to be fair, within the criteria they are using Orange was correct.

All eyes on West coast now when high tide hits, M6 buoy had significant wave of 13 meters and max wave of 17 meters!

Defintely correct- I think people heeded the warnings in the east and south and styaed in doors/off the roads to a large extent until the worst has passed. B emuch worse if they'd had nothing and people potentially killed by debris and trees on cars etc.

Yep; same out here and the din is appalling. But nothing left to blow around.

Little cat just started patting me on the shoulder and purring!

    Weary of it.
    Just weary

A poster used the word " malevolent" to describe the weather out here on Mayo islands and it sure is and on the coast.

    violent again west Mayo

RTE have held on to the figure of 48,000 without power from the morning, however, it would appear that at least doubled in the interim. We have a weather station at our place of work, in the dublin port area. Peak gust was at 1:30pm, 130 kph. Winds subsided very rapidly after that. Peak wind period was between 12 and 2.

what time do we expect it to blow over fully in the East? want to get out for a run...

During Storm Darwin a friend and I did 400m repeats downhill at the Castletroy Industrial Estate in Limerick with the wind behind our backs. Great speed work for the indoor season.

At long last, incoming from the west, blue sky and sun suddenly replacing the black storm clouds..... impressive cut-off ... co.down

Just walked the dog in cork city, had a heavy shower during it and strong gusts still of around 70-75km I'd say every so often.

Belmullet top speed increased again at 3pm. Showing 122 kph.

Winds picking up again in North Cork, is this second band?

After a brief lull following the initial squall line earlier, it has blown fairly hard and steady for the past couple of hours here in Ballaghaderreen, Co Roscommon.
Don't know about anybody else, but trying to work and follow a fast moving thread has proved a challenge.
Still a good kick left in this storm out this part of the west.

Tell that to Dublin airport... They couldn't open the doors of a flight from Rome there to get the luggage due to the wind causing huge delays. I am also not on my flight and trying to get the next available.

I M sorry to hear that Lauali..... and after that miserable taxi ride and all. Maybe have a little beverage to keep your spirits up ?!

Just reading the forecast and we in the west are getting a "secondary belt of wind" this afternoon and evening; until around 9 pm. They refer to the red as " marine areas"

amended to midnight. Noise is deafening

Galway high tide is 19.10. Could see some flooding around the Claddagh.

I’d say so if the wind stays strong plus the spring tides of late
