Thanks to everyone for organising a wonderful day yesterday. The Pacers, the MC, the people handing out water, the crowd, the sheer enthusiasm and goodwill of everyone.

First time on a track, I'll be back again :)

Great day all round, but I just wanted to give a special mention to the music! Joy Division, New Order and loads of other favourites of mine. And I'm told my final lap song was Lust for Life, another great song to run to, although I have no recollection of it as I was working so hard! I loved sitting on the grass once my race was over, drinking my beer and watching the other races. Really enjoyed it, thanks to all the organisers!

Well done on an awesome event DR. The second I heard about this I wanted in, never ran a track race before and was really looking forward to it. Have been under the weather for 2 weeks and ended up on antibiotics on Tuesday, though I was over it just in time and felt good yesterday morning so decided to give it a lash. First track race ended after 5 laps!!! Heart rate through the roof, so pissed off, DNFing on a track is an experience I won’t forget too quickly, talk about nowhere to hide!! Should probably have known not to run but sure had to give it a lash.
Unfinished business with this so will be back!! Kinda stormed off in disgust after not even dreaming of taking a PB beer, sorry I didn’t take one and keep it in the fridge for a better day!
Well done to all involved, think you guys will have a real calendar highlight on your hands!

    I loved the music too!

Thanks so much to everyone involved. It was so well organised, so friendly, and there was a really great atmosphere. The start and finish gantries, the music, the bell at the the last lap and the commentary made it feel like a really exciting athletics meet like Night of the 10,000 metre PBs in London or something at Hayward Field in Oregon.

The pacers were all brilliant - and so many of them paced twice in that heat, very well done! Unlike the pacers, I was not wonderful, I was WAY off not only my sub-20 goal but also off my recent 5k road times. Maybe it was the heat, maybe I need more track practice, but one way or another, a free beer, a souvenir glass and loads more races to watch were a much better salve to race-disappointment than just slinking off home like I'd usually have to after a tough race.

I've been recommending it to everyone. I'll definitely do it again! So well done to you all.

    THANK YOU!!!

Do you remember when you passed me on one lap and you looked like you were really suffering (as we all were!) and I shouted encouragingly 'It's New Order! they're playing New Order ... use your arms!!!" :):)

Thanks for those kind words, I changed my usual playlists for a more "Rocky" slant and with the demographic of runner i thought it would suit and i'm glad you enjoyed it.

A lot of events just have a dj standing behind decks playing away with no intetaction but i want to bring something different with the music selection and my work on the mic.

Best athletics meet I’ve been at in Ireland, by a long way. This is the type of thing we need to make our sport exciting. Most athletics meets in Ireland are boring, even for complete anoraks like myself. This one was a lot of fun to be part of.

I’ve no real business running 5000m but wanted to support this event as I feel it is the type of thing we need in athletics in Ireland. Hadn’t done a single “long run” since around November, so I was found out very badly, particularly in the heat. The early races got the worst of it! Tried to go with 22 minute pacer thinking that would be handy enough, and I’d kick on, but instead after 4-5 laps I dropped off, and my pace went from 1:45ish down to 1:48 and then to more like 1:54-1:55. I managed to pick it up for a 1:21 last lap (and probably 34-35 seconds for the last 200m at a guess). Be interesting to see how that fares in the last lap competition. Overall a pretty dreadful 22:38, and was in agony for every single minute of it. The heat was a killer, and the monotony of laps was a killer. I said to myself half way through, when in survival mode, that this is the first and last time, but thinking now if I run it again I’ll at least get 3-4 runs in beforehand. All depends how it fits in to my own season.

The post-race festivities were top notch. Beer, sunshine, music, crowd standing in lane 3. I really hope this becomes a regular fixture on the athletics calendar and that it gets the support it deserves from other people in athletics here. People work hard all week, and like to enjoy a beer at the weekend, and why not while watching athletics. This should be the norm, like it is in Belgium, Netherlands, Switzerland and so on.

Big congrats to the organisers. People who have a vision about how athletics should be presented.

Amen to all of that. The only pity is, we have to wait a whole YEAR for the next one.

    Or do we???

    Great stuff all.

I would love some feedback. If anyone wanted to email: dayofirishpbs@gmail.com

I have a fair idea of the good, bad and ugly but I am sure to be missing a lot! I will reply to all but I will be away so excuse any delay. I am most of all looking for the constructive negative, areas for improvement and general areas in need of attention.

I will announce and contact the winner when the table is complete!

I just had a look at the results on the website to confirm my time but it has me as first in race B when I was definitely second. The time for the second finisher is different from the one that was on the notice board on the day so I don't really know what my time is! I'm going to take 24:00 which is a pb!

Well mine would be quick: A goal: 19.59, B goal: sub 20.18. Actual time, 20.52!!!!!!
I can’t blame the heat, I ran 20.18 in the Docklands on a hot night, I think I’m just not fit enough - I need to do more speed sessions - but also I found the track - and seeing the clock every lap - really tough!

I absolutely loved the day though! Funnest running event ever! So I’m going to learn to love the track!

    Well done all!

    quintuple ouch!

No offence, fellow PB-hunters, but I’m beginning to feel a bit less bad about my performance now that I see how far off everyone was!

(A bad result shared is a bad result halved etc! 😀)
