50km tops get a time bonus?

GAA clothing is of course welcomed! It does though mean going out at 12 minute 5km paces for the first 120 metres, walking the middle 4.80km, before sprinting to the finish :D

I will leave the Donadea question to the main man...........:pac:

I'll take a look at how entries are shaping up by close of business. Sub 18 very popular so may require more than one race.

He can enter now, using the nearest race, transferring when official timetable is produced.

Hope that helps! A learning curve - some races a lot more in demand than expected!

It does for sure, thanks, I've another who'll be close to sub 18 and she already registered in the 18/19 As other was sold out. Great to have the flexibility.

2nd week of 5k work done, today was 3x1k + 2x500, very motivated!

    Sub 17 surely?!

What! - with a recent 17:38, I think a 31 second improvement will be quite an achievement!

I hear DD is pacing sub 17 :P

    Some great targets!

Just an FYI - no hard sell! We can only 100% guarantee singlet sizes up to close of business Friday, June 15th. That's the latest we leave the order. We will then have limited sizes available.

Two great plans (Novice and Intermediate) available on FB if looking for something to get you to the start line raring to go.

    5 weeks to go!

Nah it'll be from West Coast, will be in no fit state - no bother though - I'll do the 4m in the Liberties during the week.

Down for sub 18 so might as well give it a good lash. Not really in the best of form at the mo but hope to get close- be happy with a PB on the day TBH.
5x1 K off 3 mins last night in 3:39 per K in tough conditions, the thoughts of that kind of pace with no recoveries gives me palpitations.

    You ask......we provide!

Shamelessly copied from facebook. No, it is not Taylor Swift tickets......:D

    2HtQ9.jpg

We are delighted to team up with our neighbours Kelly's Mountain Brew Brewery, Clane to bring you your very own PB beer! Each competitor will be awarded a cold beer, with plenty of non-alcoholic options also to be found.

It is truly humbling to see so many people entering; from the novice runner to the first time track racer, to the experienced runner looking to shave those vital few seconds off their PB. With nearly 20 athletes entered for sub 16 to date, that race, in particular, has the real possibility of being one of the deepest fields seen in Ireland this year.

We are very grateful to Le Chéile Athletic Club for their continued support and use of their track. Asides from being a top-class facility. the location of Leixlip provides excellent transport options to the runner and support. We encourage as many to avail of public transport and to always drink responsibly.

Much more to be announced! Singlet size guarantee closing at 5pm tomorrow.

    #breakyourPB

Wondering about wearing spikes or runners.
5k seems like along way in spikes.
Wore spikes for the indoor mile in December but 5k? Especially given all the current speed work is being done in runners.
    Any thoughts?

I'll be wearing my usual 5k runners anyway... They'll be grand :)

I'm not running this one, but in a similar local series of 5km track races this weekend. Running 5km is grand, 12 and a half times around a track not so much and with only about 15 people to hide amongst in my heat the prospect of getting dropped/ lapped/ coming last isn't filling me with joy. I probably also shouldn't have spent three hours running up and down mountains in Wales last weekend.

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,065 ✭✭✭dublin runner

I think we need to separate the road from the track, they are different beasts. To compare would be a fruitless discussion, much like comparing XC to road running. There is a reason after all why the two have different time classifications for world records etc.

Are you more exposed running track? I really don't think so. I have been in plenty of races, racing with up to 20,000 people, feeling like I was running solo. Now, that is exposed! Who cares if someone gets lapped, runs a slow lap or falls off the pace? Trust me, no one. Everyone in the race is hurting too much to care and everyone spectating is either on your side or a runner warming up/cooling down, not gives a toss about the lad falling off the back of the group!

The great thing about track running is that a simple turn of the head in either direction you know exactly where you are in the race. You can see the competitor immediately ahead - he or she is the target, always in view.

I compare the 10,000m to the marathon is many ways. I think it matches the physiological rollercoaster of the 26.2 miles very closely. It is all about swings and roundabouts; feeling great one second, terrible the next. I honestly think you learn as much from running the 5,000m/10,00m as you do in months of training. You learn an awful lot about yourself a runner and a person after running 12.5 or 25 laps.

Speaking of swings and roundabouts take the recent Dublin Champs as a good personal example. We will call him 'Luke', for argument's sake!! 'Luke' fell off me, losing about 100m (open to correction) quite quickly. I think if that was on the road I would have beaten him. On track? He coasted by me a few laps later, opening up a sizeable lead! *we both got lapped btw :D

Run track, it is great. Whether it is this event or somewhere else.......DO IT!

Ironically being lapped was the kick up the backside I used to close the gap as it gave me a chance to reset the internal clock and get back into the rhythm I had been running at.

You heard it folks! The best tactic is to wait, get lapped, and motor on to a very strong finish :D
