Andrea is light years ahead of Kelly in terms of professionalism and radio presence. It's beyond me how she was overlooked in favour of the doctor.

Yes, she's very good. Has a nice manner.

Tis no surprise really: a degree in law/econ/politics, a masters in journalism and 10 years experience in radio.

Whodathunk being qualified for the job made a difference.

Well to answer your question,Ciara Kelly has zero radio presenting skills and SHE got the job.... so it's blatantly obvious that relevant qualifications are NOT essential to present at Newstalk.

I didn't know that. I've been very impressed by her anytime sh'es presented. She doesn't seem in hoc to any ideology and respects different opinions. Unlike a certain other presenter....

Will I cant stand Ciara on the radio (and she is a terrible GP too in my experience), this Andrea is nearly worse. The 'I am a hard nosed journalist so I will keep interrupting in a hectoring manner' approach is equally unbearable.

Yeah I felt that too, almost sounded like she wasn't even listening to her guest.

It implies ADDING listeners to the programme. She did not. It's misleading.
Is it not up from 97K to 99k from last year?

    99 - 97= 2.

She ADDED 2000 listeners (as well as probably replacing Hook listeners who moved on as others have said).

Why is that difficult to understand?

I was referring to the Book on Book figure, which remained the same. The programme in the Year on Year figure was still George Hook's so probably not a quotable figure.

Absolute rubbish, thrash tabloid radio. Newstalk should really just rename it the Woman's Lunchtime show and be done with it.

The whole thing is severely gynocentric. Hopefully she will be gone by Xmas, a total turnoff for men.

    What was it this time?
Private health insurance advice and an item on football hooliganism. Controversial stuff.

Edit: although I could of missed something because it reminded me I have to renew health insurance and I listened to some parts again. Considering how many plans are on the market Dermot Goode's advice is actually really handy.

You should be glad Kev, it's easy for you to feel outraged with Ciara's show.

Look how hard a listener to Pat Kenny had to work this morning to show their true feelings.

I thought that moving the Health Insurance section from Pat Kenny to this show works well.

    I do. Thanks.

And the ability to not get riled over the trivial things in life. Two things work very well together.

And I don't need to offend anyone in this way. Win win all round. :)

I don't. Maybe we should hold an inquiry.

"Neither of us are offended by what Michelle Wolf said".

Can you imagine what they would be saying if she had made similar remarks about Obama or his missus. They are not offended because it was Trump that she was making the remarks about.

And I'm offended by Colm O'Regan, in that he has never made me laugh once in his life. Where do I go with my offence?

She went after quite a few more people including democrats and the media in general, maybe watch the piece before ignorantly commenting on it

Obama has been roasted over the years. He's even attended a few where he was roasted (not in the Rugby sense). The main difference is Trump gives so much stuff on a daily basis to make fun of

Given how much material Trump has provided, Wolff could've gone on all night about him.

In the case of the "roasting" of Obama it was more akin to (a phrase I saw said elsewhere on this site about somebody) "praising with faint damnation". The press kissed his ass for 8 years and he sure as hell knew it. A few minutes of piss poor banter every year at his expense was probably better for him too.

Not so much kissed his behind. It's more that he behaved himself. No porn stars in his past so far. Hasn't admitted to sexually assaulting anyone yet. Hasn't been caught lying or constantly spouting racist remarks.

Obama could be the worst behind the scenes for all I know but he's squeaky clean on the outside. They had to invent stuff about his religious beliefs & place of birth to try smear him

Is everything so superficial with you? What about, ya know, his policies? Killing plenty of innocent people through drone bombings? I suppsoe none of that matters because he's a right on liberal.
