To be honest if North Korea detonates a nuclear device tomorrow I could certainly see there being a military reaction against them.

However I suspect it is more likely to come China than the US.

I don't think people realise that the USA is a modern day Rome or Alexanders Greece.
There is only one Super power on the planet at the moment, it's arguable that the States has the Millitary power to take on the next 9 biggest armies.

Americans are also more patriotic than the Chinese, who hold alligence to to their states over their country.

No one will back NK in this, and the states pay respect to the fact that NK is not worth a full scale attack with China and it's also within Chino influence. USA will and already have forced the hand of China.

China's only concern is that the peninsula become a pro USA state. Where as now they have NK as a buffer to having USA on the door step in the form of SK.

When it comes to war, my side will always be with Western Europe, Canada, USA, AUS, NZ. I can see a call for racism as the country I have selected are majority white. But these are countries that share my core values, they ain't perfect, but they are preferable to Russia, Turkey, China, Brazil and any other world player.

Well, the date is symbolic as it apparently is the 105 anniversary of the birth of the "first great leader", so Kim the third has a choice, celebrate the anniversary with the risk of pushing Trumps red button or to lose face and postpone.

Asians hate to lose face, so probably yes.

It's a pretty dangerous situation as both leaders have gone passed the edge.
If Kim tests the bomb and trump does nothing then the north will know they have them by the balls or get away with whatever they want.
If Kim tests the bomb and trump does a pre emptive strike then he's got Russia and China against him (i think) as he would be seen as the one who started it.
Let the Chinese choke their economy further and see what happens.

Kim logged out there an hour ago for his spuds, but will probably be back later with an update. I think the last he said was it was very weather dependant. Lighting the fuse is a hoor in the rain. :(

Kim Yong Un has promised a merciless response against the US. I love the measured calm language he likes to use :D

I think we will know well in advance if the US is going to do something,
I'd say the US won't do anything serious without the south getting advance warning.
If there is something major coming i can imagine Seoul would need to be evaluated beforehand and if we see that happening then its guaranteed they are going in.

Can't see 10 million been evacuated from any city ,
Chances are we will see a massive aerial and naval bombardments on a scale to dewarf anything seen since the first gulf war ,
If safe to say America has everything marked and targeted that needs to be , being they have been flying reconnaissance flights for the last 4 decades over north Korea

Gatling may or may not be 100% in his assertion. He has been wrong before when using his crystal ball. It's notoriously cloudy. Most are.

How many lifetimes do you have?
Depending on how you define ww3, it may already be in progress as there are several small scale "proxy wars" in progress between the US & Russia.
or "West & East" if you count the Christian v Muslim ideologies.

You could argue proxy wars are world wars I'd agree there ,
Syria , yemen, Afghanistan , Georgia , Ukraine all involve russia ,the US,Iran , Saudi , Israel ,in various proxy battles .China and NkK
Some might say that we would need WW1/2 conflicts to be considering world war or world at war ,
    Interesting view .

    * China seem anxious about Korea
"China said on Friday tension over North Korea had to be stopped from reaching an "irreversible and unmanageable stage" as a U.S. aircraft carrier group steamed toward the region amid fears the North may conduct a sixth nuclear "weapons test

I suspect if the US attacks then NK will fold very quickly. The damage to the south will be minimal. Can't see those malnourished poorly trained badly equipped troops putting up a battle.

You wont know about it until you see news reports just coming in. A little thing called the element of surprise is quite valued by military commanders.

For me WW3 would be between superpowers not US vs NK or US vs any ME nations or Russia V Ukraine,Georgia....so no I dont think WW3 will happen just loads of proxy wars played out by the superpowers without them actually getting too involved............
Of course I could be totally wrong!

With absolutely every player in the game on high alert, the element of surprise simply isn't there. There is a far greater risk of a "false positive" triggering a retaliation, which in turns is retaliated against.

Could the ships not take out a rocket if one was launched from North Korea?

Yes they could but the real fear is that North Korea would retaliate in the form of bombarding South Korea from the border instead of focusing on striking US naval forces.

North Korea has an incredible amount of artillery fire-power built up along the border. It's armed forces would be able to bombard Seoul and it would be impossible for the US to wipe out the entirety of North Korean artillery in one single strike. North Korea also has 1,000 + ballistic missiles targeting South Korea.

A US airstrike on North Korea could easily result in tens of thousands, if not hundreds of thousands, of civilian casualties in South Korea within a matter of hours. It's a lot more risky than launching a PR type airstrike as they did in Syria.
