Yes, but you upgraded prior to receiving the text, this user has already indicated that he has already received the text, so I'd image his case may be slightly different. It's beggars belief thou how they are still allowing upgrades without inserting a clause into these new contracts which incorporates these new charges.
No idea but I'm not complaining the s8 for €99

Just go on €30/month unlimited SIM only and don't upgrade in September, because you were never going to in the first place? Even better, go to Virgin for €5/month unlimited for 5 months, then see what better offers are out there.

There's no way that not cancelling is the best option.

But you'll be paying 20 extra a month for the rest of time! The only way cancelling is not the best option is if you think of things long term.

Does your O2 contract give you unlimited everything? I guess that's worth it for €39/month. People i know on old O2 contracts still have limits on their usage, so not the same as €60/month with the standard 3 contract.

Something like 150 mins 150 text and totally unlimited data (with free three to three calls and texts). I never go near the limits on calls/texts and truly unlimited data is much better than some operators who cap it at 10gb or 15gb.

I'm an O2 legacy customer currently due an upgrade but yet to receive the text.

Three have offered me an upgrade of an S8 for €299. If I sign up for a new contract with the current rates and receive the text after upgrading, can I cancel like the guy above or is this flawed thinking?

Read the terms of the new contract

It's not totally flawed. When you are renewing, makes sure the contract is the same. That everything is the same. If it is, then you are just getting what you always had.

Then it can't change throughout the contract

The offer was over the phone by one of their sales reps so not too sure how I can verify the exact terms? He was quoting the same price I'm currently paying though which made me think it was the same contract.

Make sure you are getting all you can eat data, and not 2GB of data with All you can eat in the republic of Ireland.

Ask them the above exactly and if they say it is all you can eat in Ireland and 2GB in Ireland and EU then don't renew is my own opinion.

Why get him to ask the question when you know the answer? Waste of everyone's time especially op's.

Go to a store if your unsure what was being offered.

I don't understand. What answer do I know?

OP was offered contract and no mention of new T and C with the same price point.

But we are not sure if that means they are now on 2GB of national data and roaming or the same terms where all you can eat is national.

    Am I missing something?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 28,270 ✭✭✭✭drunkmonkey

Who's been offered 2gb of National data, nobody. There being offered all you can eat at home and 2gb for abroad. When you upgrade your phone your signing new T's & C's so op's new contract has the same roaming and home data, that's why I don't get why you told them to ask what's the data allowance and when they tell you, refuse and leave.
Maybe you just not aware of the new data allowances that would explain your advice.

No its not that way around although thats how it works out.

New contracts have 2Gb of National data which doesn't get used because of the "PROMOTION" for AYCED. The National data can be used abroad same as it could here if there was no AYCED promotion. Its done that way to get around the EU rules on roaming.

Sorry it is 7GB not 2GB.

I see your point now. I was under the impression that once you phoned up and you are now on this new 7GB plan with promotion of all you can eat data in Ireland, not to sign up. But to go with the other networks instead.

my point being three are calling national data at 7GB and then as a PROMOTION " all you can eat" - hence the navigation around the EU law.

You'll get your unlock code within 14 days, although my wait was just one day. You have to see out the last 30 days of your contract

If you're currently on bill pay you'll need a P.A.Y.G. sim card. Maybe call in to a store to get swapped over.

Got a PAYG sim today 20 euro a month.
Got a I phone 7 in Feb 24 month contract 40 euro a month. Got a letter in March about the increase. Rang three and cancelled contract, was told no problem and gave one months notice . Was told to call to a three shop on the 21st April. In shop today and they were very helpful. Asked did I want 30 euro a month, said no thanks, want 20 PAYG, was given a new sim card with THE SAME NUMBER . Process took 9 min. Put in new sim when I left the shop connected straight away.
    Hope this helps.

Hi, I only opened my letter about three contract change & increase today. I called stating I'd only seen the letter today but they said that it didn't matter & I was too late to cancel. Is this legally allowed?

How are they sending just one letter notifying their customers of a change when they happily call or text when doing other marketing work.

Very annoyed with three. My bill was expensive anyway without this.

They have fulfilled their legal obligations, it's not their fault if people don't open their post. They seem to have done this by the book.

Ah to be fair, it was quite clear on the Three website and they mailed you a letter stating the increase..

My point is when they want you to know about something, they text & phone, it's quite underhanded to send one letter.

I will be finished with three when my contract ends.
