Hi all, I.m hoping someone here may be able to help me. I am moving from bill pay to PAYG. I picked up a new SIM. I'm now being tld be three that I have to call on the day my contract is up to move my number over and it will be done in 24 to 48 hours. From initially speaking to three I thought this could be set up so the change would be instant. Has anyone done the same change as me, and how did you go about it?

You can go to PAYG beforehand, you'll just be paying twice for however many days it is.

They say 24-48 hours but it's usually only a few hours - just call as soon as the porting line is open.

So I did exactly this at the weekend, but had a mixed experience. Both myself and my wife are doing this, but rang in at different times to cancel, so our end dates of the contracts are different.

Bought two SIMs, I went first and used the web chat (my contract end date was a week away at the time) - no problem all lined up in about ten minutes. It took about 30-40 minutes for my number to port over.

Then tried to do the same for my wife. A different agent on the web chat and I go told no she had to do it with 48 hours of the contract end (her contract end date was two weeks away). I didn't both getting into a big fight, I'll probably try again next weekend if I get the same answer again I'll just need to be careful and do it 'on the day'.

    Yes!

Finally they increased my €65 monthly fee by €5, five months into my 24mth contract upgrade which incl an iPhone 7+ discounted ~€700!!!

    I'm out.

Now to find a provider which is good for EU travel, probably Vodafone red €25 per month which gives almost identical to what I had for €40 less pm

I'd be back onto them straight away Paddy. They tried to charge me 592€ for cancelling this morning. I pasted the ComReg reply in their text chat. Part of it states within 30 of notification. That 48 hours is a pure lie.

3 have a plan for €30 you can move to that Vodafone one is €35pm after 6mts. The grass isn't always greener, Vodafone support is nothing short of diabolical I'm currently in a dispute with them over that €25pm plan, stay where you are with the €30 plan unless you've severe coverage issues.

Yeh, to be fair I've been with o2/three for over 10 years. Never really had any issues until I moved house last year and reception where I am is not always the best. And they've always given me good upgrades, new iPhone every 2 years with big discount. Think I will just drop to the €30 pm contract.

I've 2 phones with them. Got texts today about the €5 increase. One has 12 months left and the other about 19 months. Both on €40 p/m . Was offered a 10%discount for the remaining months of the contracts to stay with them. Both have unlimited internet and can't get that with PAYG. Or I can move to another provider with no penalties. One phone is a S7 edge and the other is an iPhone 7 and were both hugely discounted. Not a bad offer I think.

Hi , Looking for some help. Got notification of price rise. Want to cancel contract and get a new phone plan so I can get a iphone 6 for my daughter. Thinking of moving to Vodafone Red Connect, will cost 40 euro a month and 199 euro for phone.
How do I go about changing from 3 and is there any better options out there. Thanks

Think virgin mobile have a similar price with the iPhone 6 but with more data. Check their website. Not a huge selection of phones TBH though

You get AYCE data with the E20 PAYG plan (or the E30 sim only)

You need to give 3 the 30 days notice and request the unlock code for your current phone. Once you have the unlock code, you can use another sim in your phone. The new network will port your daughters number over, it doesn't take long.

They will tell you when you call to cancel. It's normally a month from when you notify them.

I cancelled this morning, old O2 legacy customer. I never got the text either. Will switch to prepay in a few weeks

Yup got a text yesterday as an o2 legacy customer. I rang when this originally started and was told I'm not eligible so I guess the o2 customers are getting hit too now.

Sweet as a nut. 40yoyo per month saved for the next few months.

I would highly recommend doing the maths if you intend on upgrading to the latest flagship every 2 years (especially if you are a legacy O2 customer with legacy discounts).

I am 7 months into a 24 month contract with an iPhone 7 plus 128gb on €34 a month. The phone cost €479 a month. €5 increase will bring to €39 a month.

If I cancel my contract and want to get back into one in September for the new iPhone say, it will cost another €479 but my bill will be €60 per month. That's €21 a month for what will be a 24 month contract (and thereafter).

Fair enough you will save in the short term but giving up your discounted plan could cost a small fortune over time.

Just go on €30/month unlimited SIM only and don't upgrade in September, because you were never going to in the first place? Even better, go to Virgin for €5/month unlimited for 5 months, then see what better offers are out there.

There's no way that not cancelling is the best option.

I'm a O2 legacy customer due an upgrade & got the aforementioned text yesterday - if I do my upgrade online tonight (it gives the option of "current plan for 24 months") can I still cancel without penalty before May 21st and keep the phone or would that be too easy? I'm sure 3 would not allow that but I wanted other opinions - Thanks

not a hope. it only applies to your existing contract at the time the text was sent.

Yes, but you upgraded prior to receiving the text, this user has already indicated that he has already received the text, so I'd image his case may be slightly different. It's beggars belief thou how they are still allowing upgrades without inserting a clause into these new contracts which incorporates these new charges.
