    Clearly a PR exercise

Oh yeah. I'm sure they auditioned a few hundred kids before this picture was taken. Whittling them down one by one based on how convincing they are at looking like they forgot their phone in a photograph!

Then, once down to the final 10, they were selected for a reality TV show where they had to complete tasks and challenges against each other until the weekly evictions left just one winner.

    Only explanation!

Bring back John Kavanagh that's what I say. As soon as he popped in here to make a comment, everyone soon stopped talking sh*t.

    Clearly a PR exercise

Man of all the things thrown at Conor that has to be the most cynical and wrong thing i've read.

Let me show you what type of fella Conor is. And you won't find this on his own social media for "PR" reasons.

Yes, everyone thought John would identify then by their arbitrary username and hunt them down.

No, just people tend to stop acting like idiots when someone they respect shows up.

What people were acting like idiots that speed when Kavanagh showed up? This isn't the dogmatically praise Conor McGregor thread.

The UFC kind of messed up with the amount of media they had Conor doing a couple of years ago. They so sickened him with it that he has pulled back a lot now.

There's a big difference between him posting a pic with a kid on his social media account and fans posting on theirs.

There's a big difference between him posting a pic with a kid on his social media account and fans posting on theirs.

    precisely.

Conor has ample opportunities to show off when he goes to hospitals on his own private time to meet a big fan or when he stops for half an hour to talk MMA to a complete random in a wheelchair or when he signs things for charity etc.

    Yet he doesn't do it.

So in this instance when he actually posts a picture for a girl who didn't have her phone, maybe, just maybe, he did it because the little girl really wanted a picture and didn't have her phone.

Not for how it makes him look. Which frankly, he couldn't give a flying fcuk about.

The point is implied in my post. If your too dim to see it you don't deserve an answer.

it wasnt really, you said him posting a pic and a fan posting a pic are different which is obvious as theyre posted from different accounts, was just wondering what possible bearing youve invented in your head your post had on the conversation
    TLDR

Can we go back to talking about how big he is in terms of stardom in Ireland?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,807 ✭✭✭JJayoo

McG takes a few pictures with fans and some fanboys want him declared a saint, I would like to think that 99% of people would take the few seconds to take pictures with fans.

In no way am I putting him down, just pointing out how daft some people are in regards to 'defending' McG at every opportunity.

No more daft than people who want to knock him at every opportunity. He posts one fan photo with a little girl and he's accused of a PR stunt.

He takes hundreds of pictures a day with fans, those seconds add up. There are many celebrities and athletes who wouldn't waste an hour of their day stopping for photos.

Look, he's at where he's at for 2 reasons - 1. he can fight and 2. he gets people to care (one way or the other).

There's no point in having an Official Conor McGregor thread if people weren't allow "defend" or "attack" the guy for his words, actions, choices, training partners, fight choices, fight strategy etc.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,807 ✭✭✭JJayoo

But no one is actually knocking him, they know how you will react and watch you take the bait.

I mean one person posts "PR Stunt" and it's all systems go, it's as bad as man united vs man city fans

You've just described every forum on Boards, Twitter and Youtube. Everywhere.

People post a comment to get a reaction or a debate going. That's the point of these places.

He was, absolutely, knocking him for a PR stunt. And i was, absolutely, pointing out it wasn't a PR stunt.

Isn't that the nature of conversation? it's a discussion forum. If we all had the same opinion, what would be the point?

If he's getting stick for throwing bottles, he should be praised for being a nice guy. What's the issue?

Did I say it was? Not everyone fits into the "hates McGregor" or "McGregor fanboy" categories. I'm merely pointing out that this thread is an absolute trainwreck and for a brief period people start actually talking about McG in relation to MMA and not stupid pointless who's more famous debates.

Folks cut out the nonsense, when there is a troll don't feed them..just report and move on.

As for discussions keep it civilised and lets remember this is an MMA forum not after hours. A few of you will be find yourselves going on a break from the forum if you don't start to have a bit of cop on.

"A year-ish off". I wonder if the "ish" implies more or less than a year? I'd be very surprised if he let an entire calendar year (Jan-Dec) go by without a fight, so I would reckon if this rumour is true, it'll mean that his next fight will be in Autumn/Winter 2017 rather than early 2018.

Now here's a question: Suppose he does take a year off and either vacates or is stripped of both belts so as not to hold up a division for that long - when he returns after a hiatus like that, would his record before the break allow him to immediately challenge whoever the current belt holder in either division is, or would he have to work his way up to it by doing some non-title fights first?

I don't think he'd particularly mind either way - he's shown a consistent willingness to fight in non title fights when it comes to it, and I'm sure he'd still be making just as much money given he'd probably be an even bigger draw if it was billed as "the triumphant comeback", but I'm just wondering what the rules are in the UFC for this kind of scenario. Can a champion take an extended break of that order, and then come back and fight for titles straight away like the gap never happened?

In that situation i think he'd get a straight title shot. As long as the break was only for a year or so. His return would be huge so he could probably press the UFC to give it to him even if they didn't want to.

Dominick Cruz was offered an instant title shot and he was out for over 2years due to injury, now Cruz opted to take a 'tune up' fight and fought a guy outside the top 10.

But this is also the UFC and this is McG, if he takes some time out the red carpet and cheque book will be out for his return

Who cares about Ireland, the real question is if he is as well known as Soo Chul Kim?
