Nope. Conor is a pretty big celebrity in Ireland now. Apart from your evergreens like yer Bonos and yer whoever elses, i'm not sure there are too many Irish people who are more famous that him in Ireland right now.

    I'm open for correction (again)

    He isn't even top 20 I'd say.

He's probably one of the biggest if not the biggest household Irish name in Ireland right now. Who else are you thinking of?

    Cerrone running his mouth again:

‘I just tune him out, because behind the scenes he is like a scared little kid.
‘He hides from us. When they line us all up they take Conor and put him in another room because he can’t be around other fighters because we don’t play that s***.

‘(He is disliked) by all. By all. He’s not one of the fellas, he’s not a good dude.
‘But it is what it is, he’s done a good job promoting the sport.

Pretty sure he's not in it to make friends.

Cerrone's a bitter prick. Hearing him at press conferences, doing media and podcasts you can hear how sour he is about McGregor. Always seems to lap up the attention he gets about his "wild" life out of the cage and how much of a 'bad ass' he is taking short notice fights.

Let's put it this way ....for all the media for UFC 137 Donald was more than happy to do every interview without his Cowboy Hat. Why? Full head of hair.

For a grown man to walk around with a cowboy hat on non-stop to hide receding hair and baldness, it takes a lot of ego.

His ego is obviously hurt by the emergence of Conor. He gets paid way less than Conor, gets way less attention and comes across as a parody of Stone Cold. Before the rise of McGregor there was a case that Cowboy was one of the top 3 or 4 draws/characters in the UFC. Now, he's just another dude.

Don't get me wrong, i think he's a brilliant fighter to watch and his fights are always entertaining but he's clearly affected by jealousy.

I think , like every other fighter, he's just trying to talk his way into a fight with McGregor.

He was asked for a list of people more famous than McGregor in Ireland. If you showed the blue rinse brigade and housewives, as well as a lot of older men who have no interest in MMA pics of McGregor and pics of the people I listed, everyone I listed would be more famous. Most of the younger generation who would recognise McGregor would also recognise the people I named. It's not rocket science.

Above are stars. McG at present is a superstar A lister. He's a global star. Very few people would know anybody from the above lists outside of Ireland

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 32,387 ✭✭✭✭DeVore

Conor isn't in the game to make friends. He isn't there to be liked. If I was him, I'd do exactly the same ie: get the UFC to give me my own room, walk out do the show-and-tell and then leave them behind talking about me.

He's absolutely right, winners talk about winning. Losers talk about winners.

Cerone is a nice guy and that's great and all. Conor is there to do business and make money. If Cerone wants to put a value on being "one of the guys" and that people like him, that's admirable but it speaks volumes about where his head is at.

His statement was 'the most famous in Ireland'

I would be surprised if anybody over 60 knows who McGregor is.

Its funny that Cerrone talks about being liked. The last time he was on the Joe Rogan podcast, he said he thought it was strange that fans identified with him, thinking of him as a good guy, because if he wasn't fighting professionally, he'd be the guy in the bar starting fights and taking your girlfriend
