That Argos deal is on again. Is the Elite worth purchasing? Have no problem with the price it's just all the negative reviews about it only lasting a few months i.e triggers and bumpers failing

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 20,779 ✭✭✭✭jayo26

Everything breaks even the best of controllers break and if you have a specialist thread people are going to complain so it ends up looking bad. I have had mine for nearly a year now and no problems whatsoever it's the best I've ever had ive even bought a second one so yes I'd say the argos deal is worth it.

I have one and have no complaints.

Actually, just one; and that is that there's NO going back...

With the complaints about the elite controllers, it seems to be more that people who are suffering from broken controllers also suffer from broken elite controllers. Not in all cases, but most.

That's not a slight on the people suffering from this, it's not their fault, the number of complaints about the controllers means that it's an actual problem, the controllers are totally fine for some, and are totally junk for others.

Mine works fine, no issues with it but personally, I dont think its worth it just because it "looks and feels great"
I dont use it too often, still pick up the original controller and I still think it was a waste of my money.
I'm not saying the controller is terrible, its just that I dont see a need for it as it doesnt add anything extra to my gameplay and if I could go back in time I would stop myself from buying it.

Actually, the only thing I do like about it is the interchangeable thumbsticks and D-Pad but thats about it!

I really love my elite, it's a pleasure to use...but like a few here i did have to replace it for a broken button which was very disappointing.

If you really want to see a qualitative improvement in in gaming life getting a decent headset is amazing - play better and enjoy the games more.

Are you using the paddles on the back? They help alot in racers and shooters. You never have to take you thumbs off the sticks to press the face buttons.

Exactly, the paddles are where it's at!! So helpful.

eg. In Gears; roadie/cover/vault, switch weapon, pick up, and melee, all without taking your thumbs off the sticks. Overwatch; jump, reload, coms wheel, ult...all on the paddles.

But yeah, if you're not going to use them, it's a complete waste of money.

I switch melee onto the right stick and crouch onto B.

Then on the paddles I've jump, crouch, ult and reload.

    Makes playing Lucio much easier.

After using a pad with paddles a regular controller feels like somebody designed a car with the wheels on the roof.

Yes I have used the paddles, I have them changed for different games but I dont really bother with it anymore

The Elite feels great to use, picked up my old controller recently for the first time in couple of months and hated how it felt but overall I'm not sure they are worth it. Am still only using 2 paddles so going to have to start using 4 and maybe I'll find it more helpful.

Anyone have any paddles that are getting a little loose?

My long paddle for the X button is now tending to shift a little up and down along the back of the controller recently - rather than just in and out to click the little button. Nothing major, just slightly annoying when I notice it.

I bought it in Argos in December so am definitely keeping the receipt safe.

  • Registered Users Posts: 481 ✭✭WarpAsylum

I found there was a little bit of shift up and down on each paddle right out of the box.
I don't mind it, as it just allows a little bit of give as I'm never using my finger tips for a perfect press, I use about half way up each finger.

Man, I've never used crouch for anything else other than messing

....until yesterday. I used it to duck behind the centre piece at the first capture point in Temple of Anubis to avoid a "high noon".

The McCree got POTM for it, and it was cool seeing my head in danger and then just duck out of trouble.

I'll definitely put more stock in it now!

I always hide behind the payload when Solider etc ult. It's easy to dodge.

Well thankyou Gizmo, in this small pool of data it's good to hear from you lol. The One controller is a better 'controller' but it's an 'inferior' controller imo. Thank goodness I got the 'Elite' on a deal and returns are easy or else I would be well annoyed.

7+ years and not one Xbox 360 controller faulty.

Edit: forgot to add the old adage, 'if it's heavier, it must be better'

We use about 150-200 controllers. 5-7 of them developed left thumb drift and they were all the day one controllers. You must be really hammering your controllers.

have you any job for him as a QA tester?

my day 1 developed a drift as well, any others I've gotten since have all been grand. (1 elite and 2 standards)

I got one in the Argos deal.

OMG. I love it. The paddles are taking a bit of getting used to (stupid muscle memory!) but once I get over that I can see it making a massive difference.

Even my GF thinks it's sexy and suddenly has started playing Mass Effect with it... Hmmm... :pac:

Yep, they take some getting used to, but it's SO worth it!!
...Just like that Argos deal ;)

Pretty sweet specs for a console alright. Wonder will they bundle an Elite controller with it, beastly combo.

The elite controller is hugely flawed with lots of issues like bumper buttons and disconnects. Microsoft only give a 3 month warranty with it and most of these issues happen outside of it. Add to that the wifi card issues with the one s and the fact I'm on my 2nd elite controller which already has issues I'm very hesitant to go for the Scorpio. I already have a high end pc and since I have an nvidia shield I can stream to it from my pc and use that controller or just play the games on the pc itself.

    That's not true.

Microsoft give at least a 1 year warranty on the Elite Controller.

Also its the first I am hearing about a WiFi issue with the One S.

    Likewise!
And I've never had any issue with either...

I think its a 3 month warranty but in Ireland your consumer rights override the warranty.
I did get an original Xbox One controller replaced by them a good bit after 3 months, but I did have to quote some Irish and EU law at them.

Yeah, it seems to be only an issue for people in the states as EU law would win out over here. Wonder what will happen to UK consumers with Brexit.

Never had a disconnect with my Elite pad, also have over 1000 hours use on it and no problems with bumpers or thumbsticks.

My One S doesn't seem to want to connect to the WiFi in my house but i have it wired anyway so no big deal, will see about getting a replacement though.

If your in the US you get a 3 month warranty on the Controller but in Ireland you have a 12 month warranty.
