Problem with CX is the amount of phones you break :mad:

can somebody help me on a few questions please? i am thinking of trying a few races:

    thanks in advance!
do i need to be a cycling Ireland member?
No - you can get individual on the day entries
Is there a race for guys who havent raced before (such as a b race)?
    yes*
It can also be full of people on CX bikes who are quite good
Where do i find a calendar of races and where do I enter?
    http://www.cyclingireland.ie/page/events/events-calendar-2016/competitive-bmx-off-road-and-track
Has anyone any recommendations for a race that would suit a beginner? I am based in Kildare.
There are hopefully some races in Punchestown coming up
I have watched a few race videos, are those normal cycling shoes or something specific to cyclocross?
    spds
Do I just turn up in with a functioning bike, helmet, licence and race or is there anything else i require?
pretty much. Some races are very popular and can dictate a requirement for a CX bike and other events will allow MTB in their B races.

Well I am sure you will all be relieved to know that Lenny and Rob are in.

Wonder what the odds are that Lenny will have his ass handed to him in 4/4 races?

All I can say to Lenny is, sorry Drawda boy but your ass is grass .....

  • Registered Users Posts: 6,458 ✭✭✭lennymc

I have no doubt that my ass will be handed to me in 4/4 races, but it's not gonna be by you. My ass will be the least of your concerns when you are face down in the mud! Vcb - veritable cry babies.

I have no doubt that Lenny will need a new Rear Derailleur in 8/4 races.

Your ass would need to be forklifted to you! You leave Rob alone!

Hold on, judging by the responses to MD1983, you don't need a racing licence for CX racing, or have I got that wrong?

  • Registered Users, Subscribers Posts: 2,138 ✭✭✭wanderer 22

Fairly certain you need a Limited Competition licence at the least .

  • Registered Users Posts: 4,520 ✭✭✭Alek

In the last years you could get a one day license, as far as I remember...

You don't need a full road racing licence but you do need either a limited competition licence or a one day licence.

Hmm, probably for the best I don't upgrade this year so. Hard enough getting the new wheels in the door without noticing, not sure I could explain a CX bike unless I sold another or we got a house.

in order to completely demoralise robfowl and repeatedly cycle away from him I am going to need to do something with my brakes on the cx bike. Rim brakes, running carbon wheel, with cr@ppy cantis. What canti's are people using that they would recommend.

  • Registered Users Posts: 6,458 ✭✭✭lennymc

ended up buying the br cx70 brakes cos I'm impatient.

I run crappy cantis too but thankfully I rarely use them.
I plan to continue to avoid using them but if I do you can watch and see how well they work from behind (for the first lap of two, after that I will be disappearing into the distance).

If you win you get a Belgian cap
    What if I win?
This has gone beyond mere money, you need to put up something more cross like.....

  • Registered Users Posts: 6,458 ✭✭✭lennymc

If you win I'll get you a Belgian waffle. :)
